“great location but ok food!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

This was our first dinner or kinda meal in Kona.Visited this place on 04th Oct. On fridays they have some special Tuscan bbq. We went for 2 off d fish meals. The breads tasted great, fish was ok and the dessert was kinda very sweet. In the end thought could hv been better without this tuscan meal and should hv instead ordered ala carte. They also have steaks as a special. Loved the location, but food dint do justice for a $180 meal with one drink each.

“Romantic sunset dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2013

This was our splurge dinner, but it wasn't nearly as expensive as we'd expected (maybe because one of us ordered a half order of the catch of the day instead of a whole order? Or because they comped our dessert for our anniversary?). The fish was delicious and fresh, the salad with truffle vinaigrette was wonderful, the sunset view was lovely, our server (Chelsea) was great and the quiet live Hawaiian music was just perfect. The two singer-guitarists were off at a bit of a distance and singing mellow Hawaiian music so it added to the atmosphere but didn't make it hard to have a conversation. We would definitely go here again!

“Great food and service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2013

We have eaten here three times in the last 5 days and haven't been anything but delighted. The Catch of the Day, the Eggplant Parmesan and the Chicken Putensca were my favorites.
Service is attentive and friendly but not fawning. The bread they serve is sinfully delicious. A wonderful experience all around.

“Great location but food is just okay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

We ate here in late August while on vacation. I'm giving it 3 stars as an average for these reasons:

Food - 3 stars: The food was good but nothing to write home about. It was good enough to enjoy but no wow factor to bring you back at those menu prices. If you ate the same food in a restaurant located inland with the decor of Denny's but paid the same price, you would probably never go back!

Ambiance - 5 stars: Yes this is the biggest wow factor of eating here hands down. If just burgers were served here, it would still be packed. This is probably why they charge what they charge for the food albeit you're in paradise and on vacation already in a chillaxing mood willing to shell out $$$$ (notice the four $). But of course if you're already staying at the Four Seasons this is just chump change compared to what you pay per night there.

The restaurant is right on the beach side, spotlight shining on the breaking waves at night, live Hawaiian band playing on the lawn, nice romantic restaurant lighting, and stars shining above. Overall just a nice place to hang out and enjoy the music and dinning experience alfresco.

Service - 3.5 stars: Service was good and somewhat attentive, no real complaints here. But I only gave it 3.5 stars because while the service was good, I would have probably expected more water refills without asking for it (the somewhat attentive part) at a restaurant in this price range.

Hostess - 1 star (Actually negative 3 stars): This is where your dining experience begins and sets the tone for the evening. We had a reservation made through our concierge and we arrived on time. Despite that fact, we were told that our table was not yet ready and to wait until the hostess called us for seating.

Now this is where it all went downhill. After waiting 10 minutes past our reservation time, the hostess finally called our party and gathered our menus in preparation to seat us.

As I started to chat with the hostess about entrees and what was recommended since this was our first visit, out of the blue some older guy with an "entitled" attitude walks up and interrupts us to check in his party of 5. Well the hostess immediately puts me on hold to check him in and I understand that part as she didn't want to ignore a new customer but what happened next was totally rude and blatantly wrong. Instead of telling Mr Entitlement to wait a minute (since he interrupted us), the hostess puts our menus back down and picked up his party of 5 menus and said to me "excuse me I'll be right back" as she proceeded to seat them. Blink, blink (eyes wide open with mouth open) what the **** just happened here?

Whoa Nelly! Our table was ready but yet she totally brushed us aside and sat the party of 5 who just walked up while we had already waited 10 minutes after our reservation time!! After complaining to the manager (some young blonde woman) all she could do was apologize and said that their table was probably ready first. I said "excuse me? we were just in the process of getting seated when the hostess decided to abandon us in favor of this party of 5 that just walked up!"

If the family were not hungry and it was still early (it was after 8pm), I would have left after speaking to the manager.

So attention if any Four Seasons upper management is reading this review - Please Please train your staff better on how to treat customers. It really felt like we were minorities back in the 40's that went to a segregated restaurant.

To Beach Tree's credit, the manager did compensate for that rude treatment by buying us a carafe of wine but overall it left us with a bad taste in our mouth and ruined our entire dining experience there.

What would have really calmed things over if the manager had asked the hostess to come over and apologize but that never happened. Seemed the manager herself was pretty young and green. Next visit to the Big Island will not include a reservation at this restaurant. Sorry no Aloha at this Four Seasons!
