“Excellent location”

We recently stayed with RAVC in Townhouse units 53 & 54 at the Keauhou-kona surf and racquet club. They were older 1 bedroom units, but very well maintained and very clean. The units featured a living / dining room area(small lanai off the living room),small kitchen (elec.stove, full size fridge, microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal and over /under washer/dryer),and seperate bedroom area w/ Queen size bed. It was fully furnished ( kitchen untensils, dinining room table & chairs, sofa bed ,arm chair,coffee/ end tables, side board, dressers night stands etc.).The resort grounds were very well kept , and the pool was outstanding! There were BBQs,tennis courts and a volley ball court available for the resort guests to use. There was a nearby beach & tide pools for exploring / snorkeling or just to watch the sunsets on. There is a shopping center / resteraunts within walking distance, with a free shuttle buss that will take you into kailua town.If you have a car, it is only a short drive into town and no more than 2 hrs(or less) from the major attractions ( volcano, kohala beaches, black sand beach, place of refuge etc.)The area is set back from Ali'i drive and is very quite at night except for the waves breaking( can be very soothing) on the lava rocks behind the units. This is our second time at this resort and will not be our last. GREAT place to stay !!

My wife and I stayed in unit 1301 for six nights at the end of August 2008. We stayed at Kanaloa just to the south on our last visit 10 years ago, but if we visit again, I would chose Kona Surf 1301 again.

Unit 1301 is a 3rd floor end unit with 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms. The condo has a great view of sunsets and is very close to the water. The lanai is huge, and wraps around the living room. We hardly used the living room, but used the lanai for most meals.

The only downside with the west-facing units like 1301 is that in late afternoon, until the sun starts to set, these condos get direct sun to the interior of the unit and become quite warm (no A/C in this unit). Once the sun sets, it cools off and is very comfortable.

The furnishings in this condo are first rate. The rental web site - alohacondos.com - accurately depicts the interior of the unit. Everything is well maintained. There is also a full sized stacked washer/dryer in the master bath.

You will find almost everything you would have at home in this unit. Lots of kitchenware, drink coasters, cable TV (never turned it on!), multiple radios and CD players, high speed wireless Internet connection, books, and other stuff we never had a chance to look at. Lots of towels. Extra bed linens. Etc. Also stuff for the beach, including a good selection of fins, masks and snorkels. Straw mats. Bogie boards. Beach chairs. A couple of coolers. Etc. There are also 3 gas grills in a pavilion about 100 feet from the condo, and we made good use of these for grilling fish.

Side note: Our best excursion was a kayak trip to go snorkeling at the Captain Cook Monument. Some web sites say there are no kayak rentals available at the Kealakekua wharf, but there are! We rented a double kayak ($50) from Derrick, who lives on the corner across from the wharf parking lot. He does everything from finding you a parking spot to helping you in and out of the kayak. An easy paddle and highly recommended.

This condo was perfect. Beautiful view with sunset every evening. Fell asleep to the sound of the waves on the lava rocks below each night. This condo was conveniently located to the beach, snorkeling, shopping, dining and golf. It was a short drive to any of the attractions the Big Island has to offer. Very clean and well manicured grounds. We can't wait to return!

This was a great condo to relax by the ocean. The sunsets from the oceanfront lanai were beautiful. We were ground floor, with no steps! This made it so easy for bringing in groceries, suitcases, etc. We could walk right out on the grass in front of the lanai, where birds came for some tasty bird seed. The oceanfront course of the Kona Country Club Golf Course is so close, which is a big plus.
I came with friends, but I can see romantic couples enjoying Calypso. The place had every amenity we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked. There was even laundry soap for the washer & dryer.
The Grocery store is within walking distance which is important to us. We used coolers from Calypso to take with on some enjoyable driving adventures.
I liked the pool, and the fact that there were ancient archeological sites adjacent to the pool and tennis courts. One detriment is: there is not enough shade at the pool, except later in the day when the shadow of the palm trees comes over.
The booking process was easy and the owner is very helpful in sending Hawaii info before the trip. I will be returning to Calypso!

CALYPSO is right on the ocean facing the sunset, has lovely tile floors and two sets of huge sliding glass doors opening up directly onto the patio (also tiled). This is where we spent most of our time, either relaxing on the lounge chairs or sitting at the table watching the ocean.

It was quiet and away from the street. We booked directly from the (very friendly) owner who sent us all sorts of maps of things to do. We walked to Kahaluu Beach, to the market just up the street, and to the little bay where we rented kayaks and saw outrigger canoes.

This place was very nice, spacious, and stocked with everything we needed. We did not want to leave! I think we got a real bargain with CALYPSO.

It is the perfect spot to vacation, best location out of all the units. It beat my expections! (which is very hard to do) The place is better than the pictures. The views are incredible, you hear the sound of the waves and have a plesant smell of the ocean. One day I saw a turtle from the condo suning itself. Condo has been nicely updated. Linens were high quality. The kitchen was wonderful to cook ina (small but very nice). Everything matched, full sets of plates, glasses and silverware. Cookware seemed brand new. It even had a bosch dishwasher. Couldn't hear it when it was running. I will be staying there again. Ps. owner was very pleasant to deal with.

We arrived to the condo just as advertized. The place was clean and all you could need for a wonderful comfortable stay. We found the nearby snorkeling beach to be a better experience than Hanauma Bay, which we visited on our trip as well. The condo complex is built on ancient native rock buildings that have been preserved and add a touch of culture that reminds you of the Island heritage. The nearby shopping center has all you will need and the free shuttle is a nice way to tour Kailua-Kona. We did lots of activities and lots of relaxing. The condo felt like home for the 11 nights we visited. The lush plant life and cute Gecko's really give this the tropical paradise feel that you are looking for in Hawaii. The area is quiet but only miles from the city which is quaint and full of shops and restaurants. I will definitely return and live in my home away from home unit #196.
