“India comes to Kona”
Reviewed December 19, 2013

We have been waiting for good Indian food in Kona for awhile. I have eaten there twice. Once for dinner and once for lunch. I had the lunch special and it was good. I went for the vegetarian choice. For dinner I had the Dal and garlic naan. The location is beautiful right across from the farmers market behind Weylands gallery. It has great ocean views.

“Indian food for all, including vegans, vegetarians”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

Just across from the local market, in the town centre on Alii Drive, very convenient, good view of the water, excellent variety, and large helpings for lunch (lunches very reasonably priced at $ 9.95).
Friendly place, quick service, food can be ordered mild or spicy, worth a return visit.
Our daughter is a vegan, so finding this restaurant was especially welcome.

“Finally a Decent Indian Place on the Big Island!”
Reviewed November 28, 2013

We have waited a long time for a decent place to get decent Indian food. This place has just been opened and it is owned by a Nepalese family but the food at lunch was quite good and tasty. The lunch thali is $9.95 and has generous portions. Not too hot and very fresh----not greasy like many places.

It is on the Pier tucked behind a gallery in a location that has had lots of turn over. The service left a little to be desired but it's new and they are just working out the kinks. We will return soon. Friendly staff, great selection, decent prices and we walked by on Thanksgiving and they were open... who would have guessed? Give it a try.

“Just awesome”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

I was looking forward to eat in An indian restaurant and found this on the net. We went there with very low expectations, but to our surprise food was just great. I suggest you should try lunch plate. We tried that with saag paneer and we loved it.

“Brilliant Indian Cuisine”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This is without doubt a hidden jewel in Kona. The Kamana kitchen has only been open for 6 weeks or so and is hidden at the back of a small mall to the right hand side of Bubba Gumps.
The menu is small but the quality of the food as well as portion size was excellent, we came away stuffed on the 2 occasions we ate there.
We started both times with vegetable pakora (onion bhaji) and on both occasions my wife got the chicken korma. I got the lamb tikka masala and the chicken vindaloo and got the medium plus for hotness.
A downside that is easily overcome is because the restaurant has recently opened they have not yet got a license to serve alcohol, however there is no problem in taking your own alcohol into the restaurant and consuming it.
The restaurant has only about 10 table outside by the ocean and maybe 12 tables inside so it is quite small and we did observe people waiting for tables so hopefully they can increase the capacity in the months and years ahead.
Bottom line is please give Kamana's kitchen a try, based on our 2 visits you will not be disappointed.
