“Great local eatery for breakfast”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

Our resort charged $35 per person for breakfast so it was definitely out of our budget for our 6 day trip. After looking at a few guide books, the Big Island Grill was one of the reasonable value restaurants for breakfast.

The first day we went was on a Tuesday morning and it was not very crowded and we were sat immediately. Service was good and the food was a pleasant surprised. I got the Hawaiian French Toast for my toddler and even my husband loved it - the coconut syrup was killer!

We went one other time but on the weekend and we had a slight wait - because the restaurant was so busy, there was a longer wait for the food and getting served. We weren't in any hurry so it was alright but it was a noticeable difference in service from our first visit. The food was still good - I elected to get the Sai-min and it was delicious and large!

For those on a relative budget (for 3 people breakfast cost around $30) I would highly recommend Big Island Grill!

“Kept coming back for more”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

The Big Island Grill was our first stop after arriving in Kailua-Kona. The restaurant was recommended by the clerk at the Alamo rental car place.

The food was good. The plates were huge. We ate breakfast every morning for 3 straight days here at the Big Island Grill. It was your typical Hawaii type dishes, but tasted amazing.

My favorite was the thick French toast with Coconut syrup and the Eggs Benedict. We were so happy to find a great breakfast place with authentic and traditional Hawaiian style dishes.

“Great Breakfast”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

We are so happy that they are finally open on Sundays for breakfast. The lunches and dinners were good but we always enjoyed the breakfasts at Big Island Grill. We live in Hilo and couldn't always make it when they wereopen. Now we can but there still is a wait, it is that good. Portions are large, well prepared and delicious. The pork chops with eggs came smothered with onions and mushrooms but also side of rice. Delicious. We highly recommend the Big Island Grill for lunch and dinner but we really enjoy the breakfasts.

“The food was SO gross.”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Don't know why this place got any good reviews. The food looked like something served at a cheap old folks home and tasted even worse. Greasy, saucy, stale and fried. McDonald's would have been better and I don't even like fast food.
