“Great Chinese Buffet”
Reviewed January 10, 2010

I think they have the best Chinese Buffet on the island. If you go right at 5pm the food is very hot and fresh. Lots of variety. Over 20 hot items and even a small salad bar. The service is excellent. If you don't want the buffet they have a large menu including crab and lobster.

“Don't do it. Go to Panda Express”
Reviewed May 3, 2009

Probably the worst meal I've had in many years with the exception of a company cafeteria a couple months ago. This is an all-you-can-eat place in what seems to be a dying strip mall, so without a lot of traffic, there's not a lot of people eating the food. They clearly don't change out the food in the buffet until the tray is empty, so a couple of unlabeled entries may have been made in 2007 and may still be there as you read this. The one thing they did change out when I was there was mushroom chicken, which was inferior to what Panda Express served a couple blocks away. Definitely order from the menu, don't do the buffet.

“Best Chinese Food in Kona”
Reviewed December 28, 2007

Ocean Seafood Chinese restaurant is in a VERY small strip mall so don't expect class OR style. But if you're looking for the best chinese food in Kona, it's here and their 2nd restaurant, Rainbow Cafe (now under new ownership but still same great food!)

I believe it is mandarin style cooking, so a lot of deep fried foods. The buffet is the best bargin in town at all you can eat. Prices vary on different days of the week, but well worth it if you have a big appetite!

They make the BEST salt and pepper fish (deep fried white fish in tempura batter, smothered in garlic, green onions and red chili peppers) it's not available on the buffet line, but order it ala carte.

The fried chicken (again in tempura batter) wings and drumettes are soooooo good! And the shrimp is peel to eat cold shrimp cocktail.

Everything else is standard fare, beef broccoli, pork tofu, chicken vegetable, etc. but all tasty none the less. If you are not accustomed to immigrant chinese not speaking english very well, you may get a little miffed with their attitude, but you don't go there for the service, just the food!

The owner, Luie Wong just opened another chinese restaurant at the Mauna Lani Bay hotel (I forgot the name, sorry) and if you want classy, go there but expect to pay the price at an upscale resort on the "gold coast" in Waikoloa.
