Great selection of poke and sides. We tried a combo plate with 4 different types of poke and two sides. Have to say it was the best poke I had during our whole time in HI and we'd eaten a lot of different poke from different places on different islands. The staff were helpful and friendly and even gave us samples of anything we wanted to try prior to ordering. The portions were generous and we got a filling meal for a very reasonable price. Don't miss this place!! Oh, and if you like coconut, be sure to get their Haupia Bombs for dessert. Yum!

BTW it's a little tricky to find, it's on the NW corner of Hualalai Rd and Kuakini Hwy, entrance to the very small parking lot is on Hualalai rd but there's more parking behind the buildings with an entrance off Kuakini Hwy.

Great local spot! Fresh and delicious poke. Generous portions. Great value. You can also substitute white rice with brown rice or quinoa.

I admit to being a sushi lover so it's probable that I was destined to love poke as well. That confession made, let me say that if you wish to also become a lover of poke Umekes would be an excellent place to begin your adventure. Poke here is not only delicious, it is wonderfully fresh- as in just out of the water. On my latest visit, the ahi was still being fileted in the background. A selection is offered including a poke of the day along with several standards and some most excellent side dishes. A poke bowl, which is rice, poke and side will feed one generously. If you're hungry go for the Big Boy bowl which is twice as much and will more than adequately feed two. You can't go wrong with any of the choices but I found poke made of avocado and ahi to be especially pleasing and the ho'io, which is a salad of a type of local fiddlehead and fish cake to be a wonderful accompaniment. You can choose your grain from white or brown rice or quinoa with the latter two being a very slight up-charge. If you aren't sold on raw fish no matter how enthusiastic the endorsement, no problem. Umekes also offers grilled fish as well as lau lau, pork and chicken. There is no seating in the restaurant but picnic tables are just to the side and most days are all that's needed. If the homemade lemonade is available in the beverage case, I highly recommend it. I don't usually like sugared drinks but this was delicious. The real bonus is that all this exquisite freshness is sold at a very reasonable price. This is not an easy place to find but if you make the effort it will be well rewarded.

I send people here if they want to try Hawaiian food. I go for the fern salad and fresh poke. Their express stand in Lanihau shopping center is great for a quick bite. Their laulau plate is tasty and portioned well.
