Hotel is good although bathrooms could do with modernising. The Rays on the Bay restaurant had amazing food (best meal on the entire trip). We requested a table on the viewing platform, which we got. The hotel shines lights into the sea which attracts plankton, which attracts the Manta Rays to feed. We watched about 6 manta rays as we ate our meal - amazing! Only bad thing is that the hotel is about a 2.5 hour drive to the volcano national park, but there didn't seem to be many hotels much nearer.

CONS: I usually start my reviews with the pros, but I was so upset with the breach of security here that I am beginning with the cons. 1. When I checked in, I had the porter bring my bags up. About an hour later, I went out, and found my name and room number on a piece of paper taped to the luggage cart where anybody walking by could see the information. Not a comforting thought for a woman traveling alone! 2. It took more than an hour for them to get an ironing board to me which meant it took an hour longer to leave for my dinner engagement. 3. There was a large event at the hotel with live music which was very loud (and very bad) on one side of the room and children and teenagers at the pool screeching on the other. I tried to drown out the noise with late night television, but that was not successful. I resorted to my tablet and headphones. 4. No beach.
PROS: 1. The bed was heavenly. 2. The room was spotless. 3. Plenty of outlets. 4. The scenery is outstanding. 5. I would say that the staff was friendly and helpful, but I feel betrayed about my private information being left in a public location, and lack of attentiveness to my one request, so am unable to do so.

Room Tip: Request an ocean front room if view is important, and request one away from the outdoor banquet area...

Keauhou is quite a drive away from the heart of Kailua Kona, but worth it. The resort is lovely. The room numbers are extremely confusing, but just ask for help from any of the friendly employees. The pool is great for kids, the deepest it goes is 4.5 feet. It has an amazing slide for the daredevil kids. The room itself is great, decent sized bathroom, and a rather large lanai. We stayed for 2 nights, next time we need to stay a few more.

The restaurant closes so early, had to order room service. Couldn't believe the lounge closed at 9:30 pm on a Friday night! Laundry facilities were very poor. Rooms were clean and spacious. Employees were friendly and helpful. Would rather have stayed closer to other shops and restaurants, have to drive to do anything.

When I asked about down bedding, front desk staff just said....."I don't know, check when you get to your room" ended up stripping the bed ourselves and tossing the down pillows on the floor.

Great place to stay in Kona area. We are Starwood owners and made use of points for a terrific stay at this resort. This was the first part of a long awaited trip to Hawaii. Staff was great from the check-in to the hard work of the housekeeping staff.
Definite highlight of our stay was our visit to Rays on the Bay at the resort with a wonderful ocean view evening, with some of the best service we have ever had with our server Jacob. His knowledge of the menu, from drinks to entrees, and his attentiveness to our every inquiry, could not have been better. Jacob was the main reason for our second visit, the next evening, along with the terrific view and good food.
Also, Tracy at the pool bar, was a happy addition to a beautiful day poolside at this resort. She was friendly, ready to serve with a smile. Everything was clean, professionally maintained and the beauty of Hawaii at it's best!

arrive late on a Thursday evening, close to 11pm, easy check in, no issues.
big bonus was the availability of oceanfront, nice upgrade, thanks to the front desk.
room was large, 2 double beds. mini fridge. was very clean, older room, but super spotless and all we needed for the one night.
walked around the grounds in the morning, beautiful. so much to see.
would have given a 5, but were only there for the one night and a few hours in the morning.

Room Tip: ask if ocean view available

Sheraton Kona does not have any beach. The oceanfront rooms above the oceanfront bar has view of the lava rock cliff. When the wind picks up, from the rooms' lanai you can see dramatic wave crashing into the cliff with spray up to 2 or 3 stories high. When the sea is calm at night, you can see the manta ray night snorkeling happening in about 100 to 200 yards away from the cliff. With good binocular, you get a glimpse of the manta ray swimming. (Highly recommend that you join the manta ray night snorkel cruise by Sea Paradise. It is relatively inexpensive and its boat depart just a short way from Sheraton. If you can snorkel, you must try this. Just hope for calm weather)

The hotel facility is clean and comfortable. Yes, there is a resort fee but internet wi-fi works great. We had a lot of fun at the pool. It was clean and big enough that we didn't feel the spring break crowds like the Maui hotels. The pool water was not cold. The water slide was fun for adults and kids.

Breakfast buffet was fine. Good selection of local fruits. Wish that there was more selections of local flavored breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. The front desk corrected 2 minor problems very quickly.

Sheraton Kona has big and interesting ground with some history. Beyond the hotel, there is not much to see within walking distance. A few good restaurants in Keahou Shopping Center are within 5 minute drive. Try L&L, a local chain which you can sample what locals eat. Kahaluu Bay is a good beginner snorkeling place close by.

Room Tip: Try the ocean front room with the view of lava rock cliff and manta bay.
