“We really loved this resort”
Reviewed September 23, 2009

Our group consisted of 5 ladies, ages 14, 25, 28, 29 and 32 that stayed at this resort, using my parent's timeshare. The staff was most definitely pleasant and helpful with anything we needed. Especially since none of us had experience with using a timeshare before. It's conveniently located near the main part of Kona where all of the shopping and restaurants are, which we really liked.Everything was clean and looking great.
We were on the top floor, and my favorite part (the other gals would agree) is was the lanai, and sitting out there in the mornings drinking coffee.
The master bedroom and bath were great, although not separated, except for the toilet.
Wal-mart was not far away with Safeway next door. We did most of our grocery shopping here and did most meals in the room.
My only complaint is no wireless accessible from the rooms, which isn't a big deal. It just made doing some online college assignments a bit more difficult with either having to use the laptop in the lobby area (which is open air) or waiting to use 1 of 2 facility computers.
Overall, very nice relaxing and quiet place to stay. We weren't a wild bunch though ;)

My wife and I stayed here for four nights on our honeymoon and found almost everything to our liking.

-2 nice pools
-walking distance to downtown
-beach cruiser bikes to borrow for free (not in the best of shape though)
-nice blender in the kitchen (tropical fruit + rum = yum)
-spacious 2 bedroom apartment with a nice deck
-easy parking
-air conditioning!
-beach toys/chairs to borrow for free
-slightly corny welcome party

-OLD mattresses that were broken down on the edges so you kinda roll off of them, very uncomfortable
-longish walk to downtown
-bikes have to be back in by 5pm
-lots of kids in the pools at all times
-kitchen equipment (knives, pans, etc.) very poor quality
-10am checkout

We made great use of this place by using it as a base to explore the whole west coast of the big island. If you're going for luxury, skip it, but if you're traveling with family, this could be an awesome deal.

The rooms were clean and modern and it was great having a washer/dryer in the condo. However few if any condos had an ocean view, and our lanai was looking at a parking lot. What a shame to build a resort in beautiful Kona that is so far from any water view or beach that you might as well be in Iowa. It was more like staying in a run of the mill garden apt. than the fabulous big Island of Hawaii, with all the wonders there are to see there, and of course the water and the sunsets. The front desk people were unhelpful- they knew little about the Island and gave incorrect directions or driving times. I was frankly shocked at the ignorance. Solution? We basically stayed AWAY from the condo and only slept there. Big dissapointment, especially since we got the place through our vacation club and it was ranked with five stars, and RCI gave it a gold crown. NOT FAIR TO UNSUSPECTING TRAVELLERS! Finally, they try to rope you in to buying a timeshare, which is so unlikely if you stayed at this one, but also a real pain and annoyance.

We recently stayed at the Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Resort and enjoyed our time. While I am not a Wyndham fan at all, this resort was nice. We had a two bedroom place with a nice view of the ocean. Our unit had been recently upgraded so it was very nice.

My minor complaint was that the pools were not as crystal clear as I'd like nor were they as deep as I like (only 5' deep max). They are small and not anything special but we were out on the road going to beaches and such and used the pool to cool off on the way back home. For beaches, we found this site useful http://www.konaweb.com/konaweb/beaches.shtml

The kitchen was key since it is so expensive to eat out. There is a Walmart and Safeway close by. We can recommend using these to keep costs down. We also used the various BBQ grills throughout the resort to cook steaks and such which was great.

Minor complaint that the resort cannot control- STUPID people that decide to stomp around, slam doors, talk loudly at 6AM, etc. People have no respect for others now! MY kids are more respectful of others!

We would consider returning although the beaches in the Caribbean are much nicer that the ones we found on the Big Island.

We just returned from staying here at the Kona Hawaiin Village the week of June 20th. We have stayed at another timeshare in the Kona area last year and from this point on we will only stay at the Hawaiin village. The grounds throughout the resort were drop dead gorgeous with vegetation that blended in with the turn of the 1900's sugar plantation theme of the resort. We were staying in the older section where the plants and trees were more developed but even in the newer section the grounds looked great. The unit itself was a large 2 bedroom with central A/C, laundry and full kitchen, the dining area out on the lanai with the ceiling fan really gave you that island feel. The unit was clean and the furniture was not worn out at all. Cooking and cleaning supplies were plentiful.

We rented this unit directly from the timeshare owner so I was expecting problems at check-in but everything went smoothly and quickly. Every employee that we dealt with at the resort was friendly and helpfull. We were asked to attend the time share presentation which we declined but at no time did we feel any undo pressure to attend. Keep in mind that this is not an oceanfront resort and there are no real beaches within walking distance, however it is a great location walking distance about 1 mile to the tourist are of Kailia-Kona with all of its restaurants and touristy shops. If I could think of anything to complain about it would be that the pool and spa were treated with too much cholrine and the smell was noticable. All in all this is a great resort to stay at while in the Kona area, you truly feel that you are on a tropical island during your stay

This is a huge timeshare property that appears fairly new. Our stay was a gift from a family member so I won't comment on a cost to value ratio, the pictures on the Wyndham website accurately described the property. The property is beautiful compared to others on the Big Island in the town of Kona.

- Unit was huge, clean and beautifully decorated
- Layout of the bathroom in the master bedroom was wonderful (separate shower,
toilet and a claw foot jacuzzi tub)
- The staff was very friendly and helpful.
- Timeshare people left us alone once I told them that my brother was an owner
- The pools, hot tubs and barbecue grills were well maintained
- Housekeeping responded to our request for more towns in a timely manner
- Excellent business center
- If you don’t want to walk the hills of the property for exercise there’s a nice workout
- A short walk into Kona
- Quiet

- Parking wasn’t close to the unit so we made sure we only grocery shopped once
- Wouldn’t recommend for anyone who has difficulty with stairs or slight inclines in

The two bedroom condos are fairly spacious and included wireless internet connection in the room. The signal was not even throughout the condo, but you could find a location where the signal was strong. Only heard a little noise from the people occupying the upper condo.

Kitchen was well stocked (pots, dishes, silverware, glasses, etc.) so that you can eat in without a challenge. Ample supply of garbage sacks, dish soap, TP, paper towels, pool towels, bar soap, etc.

Costco, Safeway, Walmart (limited groceries), Longs Drug are all within a 5 -15 minute drive.

The best snorkling beach on the island is just 5-10 minutes away down Alii Drive. If you are hoping for a direct ocean view you will not find it here. Personally it was not issue for our family as we were out and about each day. Postcard perfect beaches are about 30-40 minutes north.

Our two teenages enjoyed the on site pools. They were clean and had a pleasant atmosphere.

One drawback was that the dinner table was out on the lanai. Could be a little bit of an issue is you had a really hot day with no wind. However, they do have 4 bar stools around the kitchen counter so you do have secondary options.
