When we go to Hawaii we stay at the Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Resort. The staff are excellent, the facility is well run and maintained and we love the condo layout. The weight room is minimal, but well laid out. You can also borrow bicycles so you can tour around town.

Room Tip: There is a map available of the resort. Have a look at it an pick the condo you wish to stay at.

The Kona Hawaiian Resort has an excellent location near old town. The units are spacious. We enjoyed our last trip so much we have already scheduled a 4 week return trip in 2014. Be sure to do the Manta Ray dive whether you are a snorkeler or a scuba diver. I am a Dive Master and found this to be one of my best dives ever.

We spent 3 nights at this resort on our recent trip to Kona. Very centrally located, it is a little bit out of the town of Kona so a car is helpful. The property is very well maintained and both pools were clean and refreshing. The unit was very nice and seemed to have been recently renovated. The master suite was very spacious and this unit was very comfortable for 5 adults. The outside covered deck was also very nice. This property is primarily a time share, and although we did get the pitch to sit with a salesperson it was not overbearing. We will definitely come back to this resort.

Room Tip: Upper units do not have elevators, so if stairs are an issue, request a lower unit.

We celebrated our 6 year anniversary and stayed at this resort for a week. Great location - close to the water, restaurants, and shops. The activities they have throughout the week are fun and worth a visit.

The Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Resort. Is wonderful!! Albert at the front desk is so sweet and accommodating. He personifies the great atmosphere at the resort. The condos are truly beautiful and fully equipped. One of my favorite things is the bathtub with lion claw legs and Jacuzzi action. Great for after a full day of sight seeing!
The grounds are a tropical paradise, the hot tub is a waterfall, and the live Hawaiian music by the pool is very soothing. There are great barbeque areas. I feel so spoiled comfortable here. Of course it is walking distance into the little town of Kailua Kona. We spent a week going to so many different and interesting sites. When you go I recommend that you explore the Kona Historical Society web page for some great things to do. In particular don't miss the Historical Living Coffee Farm, very interesting and charming. Also, you an make Hawaiian Rolls in a Portuguese Stone Oven in he pasture behind the Greenwell Store and Museum with the Historical Society every Thursday morning at 10AM, for free. Driving in the other direction don't miss the Hamakua Nut Company! It's a great tour with very friendly staff and there are many delicious FREE samples. And then of course come back to your wonderful resort and relax Hawaiian Style!! Aloha

This was the best accommodations we have ever experienced, and we have traveled a great deal.
Still skeptical of the whole condo/time share Wyndham Vacation membership, we embarked one our first use of the membership. Our previous Hawaiian experience was at a great place on the beach in Maui, and at first glance when planning this trip were a bit disappointed this was not on a beach...well, if you have been to the Big island, there is no shortage of beaches. I believe we visited a dozen or more of infinite varieties and no lacking for sunsets at all! The property is meticulously groomed, very beautiful. We were in 61A (above). As per other posters, we followed their advice and calling about ten days out asked for an upper "in the back" which is exactly what we were provided. And what a fantastic suite! Besides the food of course which was a short drive away (and there was also great local produce at the farmers marker in town, easily found), this place already had everything just waiting for us. there was initial quality toiletries, soap for the dishwasher, soap for the washing machine (yes, and there was a dryer, which was extremely convenient with beach wear and towels), FREE AND EASY TO ACCESS DEPENDABLE WIFI, and even a quality cooler! The full sized refrigerator even had an ice maker so that you never had to worry about buying ice for that cooler. We got a case of water in town and other items that we put into the cooler with ice and had nice cold beverages and snack items with us as we explored the island. The balcony lanai had a light and more importantly a ceiling fan. this was great because, hey you are in tropical Hawaii and insects tend to gravitate toward food (just like at home, right), but that fan kept the air moving and there was never an issue when eating out there. the kitchen had a high quality blender (easily chopped the ice for tropical drinks) and everything you could possible need including plenty of counter space and three nice stools on the other side of the large counter. Two bathrooms with showers and one jacuzzi tub, two spacious bedrooms, a large living room area, and even a large double BBQ right outside. the upper pool with hot tub was a short walk and very clean. The suite was also very clean upon arrival and all set. Parking was easy usually right out front, but yes coming back late I had to park one unit over, no big deal at all.
Kona itself is a good fifteen minute walk, and the place we went to a luau was about a ten minute walk. (By the way, this was not my first luau, so I some experience. It is at another resort, and I would grade it a B-B+, food and beverages a B, quality of entertainment and length of entertainment an A-, so a nice time, worth an evening and still had time to hit the pool if one wished to).
We did the Parker Ranch experience (another B+ but the view is outstanding!!!) and we picked up right at the entrance of the resort. Both we booked by the helpful staff at the resort. The luau, which we were going to do anyway, was free as a perk as was a useful discount card.
You absolutely were not pressured or bothered in any way by anyone on the staff to attend anything. there were opportunities for those so inclined. And I was not inclined, in fact I hope I was not rude to the staff member when I decided to get the luau for free and the discount card by very reluctantly agreeing to meet with a resort counselor for an update...I in fact shared some of the comments from the reviews on this site, the negative ones. What those no longer useful reviews cannot take into account is the new management Wyndham put at this resort because of some of the complaints. Those hard sell people are gone, and the people who are there now are friendly, helpful, and professional. That said, we met with Nancy. She answered our questions first for a good 45 minutes (repeat, OUR questions, not a sales pitch by her), after which she presented an opportunity to purchase addition points specifically in Hawaii because some additional properties on other island are not available otherwise (I checked this out being the p.i.a. I am and she was telling us 100% the truth). She took 15 minutes and accepted our no thank you with the same professional courtesy every other staff member had shown us. She even gave us some very useful tips about seeing the island.
We had an issue one evening because our key card was not unlocking the door, and it was about 9:00 PM. So we walked down to the desk and were not only given new cards, but the person in charge of maintenance met us immediately and apologized for the inconvenience, road us in a his golf cart back (up hill) to our suite, and made sure the new key card was working (which it was) checked the door locking mechanism, assured us that if we had any problem whatsoever to call the front desk and he would be back ASAP.
The resort has a small exercise room, a second pool (more for the kids), and a business center with two computers (print those boarding passes!). The place was extremely quiet. The master bed huge and comfy, and AC worked wonderfully! Did not use any of the big screen TVs or the convenient safe (behind the bedroom door). There is an ironing board, iron, and a blow dryer.

Side comments: some people mentioned insects in their condos, well I can see why that happens. There were people who literally left their doors open for long periods of time and you are in the tropics-how do you think bugs get in? The BBQs worked just fine, other than a group of people who clearly didn't know what they we doing and seemed to lack common sense. Treat the place like your home away from home and follow basic hygiene and clean up after yourselves and you won't have to worry about insects. Also, yes, geckos are there, not inside, but outside (unless you leave your doors wide open for a half hour, then one may get in), and there are cats from time to time and I did see a mongoose. No rodents at all. Just peace, quiet, and the wonderful Hawaiian hospitality at this resort. I'd got back in a heartbeat, heck I would live there if I could!
Based on this experience, I am looking forward to trying another Wyndham resort.

Room Tip: In the back, ask for an upper. Call 10-14 before you arrive to request a room in the back (you will...

This was a great resort, quiet and secluded feeling but yet walking distance to Kailua-Kona. We stayed over the July 4th holiday, so could walk into town for the parade, dinner, fireworks, and a fabulous sunset thrown in for free! Would recommend this resort to anyone!
