My husband & I started our vacation in Maui for 5 days at an ocean front property on Kaanapali Beach. So my review of Holua Resort may sound alittle tainted. We were disappointed that we didn't pick an ocean front on the Big Island. this property was pretty clean but the bathroom leaves alot to be desired. The property as a whole needs a makeover and updated. It is really out of date. The bathroom looks like my home bathroom did before I updated it and my home was built in the 40's. Needs everything redone!!!! Most of the fountains either don't work or the heads shoot straight up in the air or just trickle. Lets just say we were glad we didn't spend anymore money per night than we did!!!! We've learned our lesson to never go cheap again. I picked this property based on other reviews and the overall rating of #2 of specialty properties. Wow, I have to wonder who the people are that are reviewing this place. We are not picky and we stayed at a Shell Vacation condo in Kauai last year that was lovely so we didn't hesitate. We were so wrong to have stayed here. Just beware. If you want cheap and just want a bed than the Holua will be fine otherwise stay somewhere else.

I took some relatives to stay there and they were in disbelief this place was so cheap! Lots of flowers and plants on the property! Fish ponds also! Barbeques and swimming pools and hot tubs also! The rooms were bright colored and spacious! Staff on property were always friendly and if anything was needed (towels or soap or?) they didn't hesitate to accommodate! I've been to kona 4 times and will come back to stay here again!

We are still here and have had a great experience. We have been here four days now and have 3 more days to go. As reported in most all reviews, the staff has been exceptionally friendly. Also as reported in numerous reviews it is a bit of a walk from parking garage to the units, but it is good exercise and staff is available to help with luggage. There are four of us on this trip and one of us is "picky, picky, picky" and even he is pleased with the resort and rated it "excellent". Having a car at this resort is a "MUST". A few reports have noted the resort as "dated", I would not agree with those comments, but the colors are bright. The grounds are immaculately maintained. This is a quiet resort, and a great place for families. The pool areas are very nice. We have not found access to a beach in fact there are few white sand beaches in Kona. If we were to come back to the Big Island, this is where we would stay. For us this was an Interval exchange.

Room Tip: We are the farthest unit from the office and have a very good ocean view and overlook golf course.

We stayed here August 16-18 last year, found it on Hotels.com. There were two of us couples, so four in all, and we're locals from Maui and young so we didnt mind having to stay in a 1 bedroom with a sofa bed in the living room. We're not too picky or high maintenance. Main thing we care about is if its comfy, spacey and clean!!!!!! They upgraded our 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom for the price of one, so that was sooo great!

The beautiful pictures and description of this colorful upbeat resort, surprisingly, matched exactly what I seen in real life! The rooms were spacey and comfy, the bathrooms were clean, the kitchen was kinda narrow for us 4 but it was clean and did well! The sound system they had was pretty sick! I was able to connect my iPod to it and play music. The view of the golf course with the ocean in the back was spectacular!

The property itself is very pretty, quiet and peaceful, although we didn't do much exploring around the property.

We didn't demand or request or ask anything from the staff so I don't really have much to say except we were very very glad about the free bedroom upgrade.

I would totally stay here again. I know my review seems too perfect and too good to be true, but being in Maui I've stayed at worse (and better, for a toooo high price) condos and the price is right, if not understated, for this place. But then again, we're not too picky, we didn't have high expectations or demands, we just needed a good place to stay for a good price and this was just it. It was better than we expected.

We recently stayed in this two bedroom, two and a half bath condo-type accommodation. This property is located about 8 miles south of the main village of Kailua-Kona, where most of the shopping, restaurants and nightlife are located. It is near the ocean, but not ocean front exactly, since a golf course runs along the actual cliff on the ocean. Most of the units do not have ocean views, but many have views of the fairways. The units are very spacious, have good furnishings, the beds are soft and comfortable, the kitchen is complete and has everything we needed. The decor is somewhat dated, as are the TVs and electronic equipment, but it was sifficient for our needs on holiday. Unfortunately, the free Wifi signal was weak and slow, but mainly usable for checking emails. The staff was efficient and professional, and quick to respond to requests. The concierge was very helpful and got our group some excellent deals on activities. This is great place to stay, and we will return. Just be aware that the property is located quite a distance from the main action in Kailua-Kona, and you must have a rental car to stay here - expect to do a lot of driving.

Room Tip: You must have a rental car to stay here - the local transit is far away, and the tourist bus limited...

The staff are some of the best trained staff I've seen in any resort. They are a happy bunch, courteous and friendly. However the facilities is a bit dated, vintage 1980's. Our toilet back up one night and the other two toilet was slow in draining. I can just see a big accident waiting to happen. Other faucet and sink fixtures show a lot of wear and tear and in bad need of replacement. The carpet doesn't look dirty but feels dirty, kind of sticky in some spots.

The great staff and overall value is what makes this property worth staying in. Management should seriously think about a remodel of the units.

This is our second stay at this hotel but I'm thinking of switching the next time we go to the Big Island.

Room Tip: pay a little more and spring for the full room cleaning option. If you get a two bedroom place, ask...
