The event was entirely illprepared to deal with a rainy day. We stood in line for over an hour waiting for the seating to begin. And a luau in a ballroom is poorly pulled off.

BTW. It started raining at 1:00. They had plenty of time to work thia out!

Despite some good reviews I was rather disappoint in this attraction. They tell you to arrive at 4:30 but then make you line up in the hot sun for 30 minutes before you can be seated. Once seated, they seem to rush everything, presumably to limit the time the bar is open when you can get free drinks. There program brochure states that the show begins at 7:00 but they closed the bar and started the show more than twenty minutes early. We had just gotten our food when the show started and some tables were still going up to the buffet table. The food was good but nothing great. The one redeeming factor is the show was excellent. Overall, because of the rushed nature of this event I thought is was a poor value for the money.

We were staying at the Sheraton and wanted to see a luau, so this was an easy choice. Based on the reviews I've seen for Sheraton's former luau, this seems to be quite an improvement. I thought the food was pretty good, especially the poke, and everybody at our table even went back for seconds. The mai-tai's were weak, but at least they were unlimited.

I'm not an expert on Hawaiian dance, but I thought the show was pretty good. The coconut guy offers comic relief (my 9 yr old son LOVED him!). The fire knife dance was very entertaining. There is only one fire knife dancer, and I've seen pictures of other shows that have more than one, but I thought he did a great job.

We paid extra for the Ali'i seats: you get a front row table, lei greeting, first in line at the buffet, and best of all you don't have to wait in line to get in. I would recommend this to anyone staying at the Sheraton, although it seemed that some lucky people with rooms overlooking the stage got the show for free. At the time we were there, the show was only on Monday nights, so you should plan ahead.

I've only been to one other luau, and that one had the emu ceremony, which I wish my son could have seen. This is not the place for that, so I will try another luau next time. But I didn think the food here was far better than at the other luau I attended years ago.
