“Successful Manta Sightings”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

Living in Hawaii, I often forget to take advantage of the wonderful activities around me so when my sister came to visit we decided to make a list of the top things we wanted to see while she was here and snorkeling with Manta Rays was at the top of the list. We went out with Captain Danny and Laure and were able to have great conversation, and snacks (the homemade salsa and guacamole is amazing!) while watching the sunset and learning about the Manta Rays. We were provided with snorkel gear and wetsuits and were escorted into the water to the “campfire” (a place where all the divers and snorkelers meet to shine lights to attract plankton for the Manta’s to eat. I am sad to say that after 45 minutes in the water the Manta Rays must have had another event to attend and they didn’t show up. Luckily, we still had some time before my sister left and we were able to go out again a few nights later with some of the other crew members, Andy and Lindsay. This time within two minutes of being in the water, we had close to five manta rays right below us giving us a private show. They would swim right up to us and would practically rub us belly to belly. We then headed to the campfire to see 13 Manta Rays gracefully gliding in and out of the lights. This trip was a huge success and it was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen! I recommend this tour and any other tour offered by Kona Ocean Adventure just by having met many of the crew members. I am certain that whether you are able to see the unpredictable wildlife or not, you will have a wonderful time with great company!

“Unbeatable dolphin experience!”
Reviewed April 23, 2013 via mobile

We decided to take our family of five on the dolphin snorkeling trip and it was amazing! Captain Andy and Suzanne were our guides for our trip and they could not have been nicer or more helpful. Helped our small children in the water and we swam with over 300 dolphins! We wanted to see more dolphins and less rays/reefs so our trip was catered to that. Tried to find a whale shark with little success but it was fun trying. Snacks & drinks were delish (great freshly made guacamole!) and we will definitely do this again the next time we are on big island.
Pass on Dolphin Quest and go swim with the dolphins in their natural habitat. We are thrilled we chose this option!

“Near perfect family day”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

I took my family on a private tour for diving and snorkeling with manta rays. 3 kids (6,8,&11) and despite some seasickness from my wife, now called chumming for fish, all had a lifetime memory experience. You could not ask for a finer crew with Capt. Danny, Capt. Laure, and guide Lindsey. They catered to all levels of experience and needs. If and when we return to Kona this would still be my number one activity to do. There are always risks when dealing with wildlife adventures but they stack the odds in your favor and I would give them my highest recommendation.

“Great Day”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Went on a great tour swimming with dolphins, visiting whales and then snorkeling. Trip lasted about four hours and was well worth the money. Our captain was Jenna and our swim guide was Nadine. They were both great hosts, funny and knowledgeable and made the experience even more enjoyable.

If you get the chance, definitely book the dolphin tour.

“a great day with Dolphin and Manta Rays!”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

My wife and I had an incredible time out on the water with Kona Ocean Adventures! We thought we might have over done it by booking two trips in one day but it was a great day. In the morning we met up with Captain Pono and First Mate Lindsay for a trip to swim with Spinner Dolphin. Pono and Lindsay went over all of the safety rules and then as we traveled out Lindsay gave us a great overview of how the dolphin live, eat, rest and play in the Kona area. You never know what you'll find as it's a true nature trip; but we hit the jackpot with hundreds of dolphin schooling and playing in a bay north of the harbor. Lindsay led the group (there were 6 of us) into the water and there we were with dolphin everywhere around us. Lindsay led the group and Capt Pono kept the boat near us and both directed and watched out for everyone. After awhile we all got back on the boat and had a nice lunch- then went back in the water with the dolphin again and finished up by snorkeling over a nearby reef with gorgeous fish, octopus and sea turtles.

I went back in the evening at 5:30 for a night dive to (hopefully) see Manta Ray feeding at night. This was a very cool trip with Captain Danny, Captain Laure, and First Mate Lindsay. I went to snorkel but here were scuba divers on the boat as well. As before Lindsay gave us a great overview of what to expect and how Manta Ray's feed, and Danny and Laure were really fun Captains with lots of stories and great local knowledge. We anchored up in an area where Manta Rays are known to feed due to lots of plankton in the area, and as the sun went down the divers went in the water with Danny and Lindsay led the snorkelers on a raft which we hung on to and which she towed to the best areas for viewing. (We were provided wet suits by the boat so it wasn't cold at night) Another lucky night- we saw 3 big Manta Rays right below us swimming, rolling, feeding. They are really elegant and beautiful. Lindsay was working hard to make sure we had the best views and that we were all doing well. Definitely a cool experience! Once back on the boat we had hot chocolate waiting to help everyone warm up on the trip back to the harbor. Kona Ocean Adventures is great because they only take a few people, they are knowledgeable and personable, and they really pay attention to their guests! The boat is really nice- comfortable and roomy mostly because they don't overbook it (and includes a bathroom if you need one).
