“Nice and relaxing”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

The unit was nice and large. We had originally been issued a second floor unit but for this visit, we preferred to be on the ground floor and that was changed with a smile. The unit smelled a little "damp" in the bedroom but once the air conditioning unit was turned on, it mostly went away. The pool area is great and the luau was absolutely lovely, not to be missed. All and all, we found that the restaurant at the shopping mall were fine "in a pinch" it was nice to have a grocery store and a drug store at that mall, so close to the resort. The staff at the resort were great.

The Kona Coast II is our favorite resort on the island of Hawaii! We have been to this resort five times and are made to feel totally at home here. The condos are spacious and we found this time that the condos had been updated with new carpeting and reupholstered furniture. There are two pools, a family pool and a quiet pool. Both are well maintained. A volleyball court and tennis courts are available. They have a service area that provides games, pool and beach equipment (some for a charge) Outdoor Gas grills are provided throughout the property. A shopping center with a grocery, drug store, theater, and other stores is available within easy walking distance. Many of the condos have a great view of the ocean and the resort is within easy walking distance to the beach. This is our little slice of paradise!

Room Tip: Ask for a condo with a view of the ocean

This is our third time staying at this property. We have always enjoyed our time there. The condos are a bit dated, but clean and comfortable with all of the amenities you need. We don't use the activities or the pool (with the ocean who needs it?). The location is convenient, walking distance to a shopping center with a few restaurants, Longs, and a movie theater. It takes about 10 minutes to drive to Kailua. The best feature of this property is the price, it just can't be beat.
The front desk staff is nice and has a lot of Aloha spirit. The woman that I borrowed towels from, however, was not. She felt the need to lecture me about how we would owe a $20 towel fee if the towels were unaccounted for (that are worth about $5) and that if we returned them with sand there would be a $10 charge!
The noise issues this time were significant. Our unit was right behind the construction, the noise was a pain, when you get back at 4 pm, whipped from the beach and ready for a nap, and all you can hear is beep! beep! beep! There was also some kind of noisy machine that destroyed the serenity of the lanai, I couldn't even sit out there.
In summary, I would stay there again, but will check to make sure our unit is not affected by the noise.

Room Tip: There are no elevators. Construction is in front of many units.

Thank you for your feedback including some helpful information about the area for future guests. We apologize for the noise from our property construction, as we know this provided a major inconvenience. Please feel free to reach out to the manager during your stay if this occurs in the future. We are disappointed to hear your interaction with some of the resort staff did not meet your expectations, as this is not part of the Count On Me service we take pride in. We know that while on vacation it is imperative that our guests are treated well. Please rest assured that we will be taking action to ensure that this is not an issue for future guests. Again, thanks for taking the time to reach out. We look forward to your next visit.

My parents purchased two time share weeks before Kona Coast II was even fully completed, so we have been going there for 20 years. The resort has always been immaculately maintained outdoors. However, the interior of the units is showing some wear. The furniture has been replaced but the kitchens especially are in need of updating.

Several travelers complained about the air conditioning charges. That has always been the case – even for owners at Kona Coast II. It does seem like nickel and diming but electricity is expensive in Hawaii. Up until the last couple of visits, we did without a/c and it was quite comfortable with the windows open and the trade winds blowing. Even though we were there in November this year, it was quite warm with very little trade winds, so the a/c was necessary. I’m not sure if it’s because of global warming, but be prepared to pay for the a/c.

A lot of visitors don’t realize that there are two pools at the resort. We especially enjoy the quiet, adult pool which is in the upper part of the resort.

The resort is also very convenient to a lot of attractions on the Big Island. There is a shopping center just above the resort. It’s only a few miles to drive north into Kailua-Kona or south into the Kona coffee growing region.

I'll start with the goods! The grounds are immaculate, and all of the support staff was beyond outstanding (except for the one tourism lady noted below). The 1 br timeshare we had was very spacious, and the hideaway bed was comfortable, and the master King bed was comfortable as well. Very nice bathrooms, everything you need in the kitchen in terms of utensils, etc. En-suite washer/dryer that worked very well. The pool area is beautiful. Most of the units don't seem to have much of a view (comparatively speaking~ the grounds are so nice it isn't much of a problem, really). I had requested a room away from the construction or any noise machines (based on information gleaned across review sites). Our room was quiet and it was a great home away from home for a week.

I was not pleased with the 8$ a day air conditioning surcharge, that was clearly supposed to be included as part of the original timeshare charges. But when you arrive jet lagged, there isn't much fight in you. Plan on getting hit with this charge if you feel you need AC (depends on time of year whether you really need it or not), as well as 6$ day taxes (pretty fair) on top of the timeshare cleaning fee if you are going the timeshare route. We passed on the AC, and it was kind of muggy in the room as a result, with only occasional cross through breezes.

We had one wonderful "activities desk" woman who made some great restaurant recommendations, and were pleased with her recs. However, one day meeting with another woman, I was treated poorly- the woman couldn't be bothered to look up from her paperwork despite the fact that she was standing at the counter seemingly "open for business". I actually had to press her a bit to provide driving directions- this was unfortunate as one rude staff person can really influence a traveler's experience.

Room Tip: Request something away from noisy areas (construction, loud AC units). If you can get oceanfront or...

It was a perfectly nice condo and a great stay. They were doing some construction to add more car port coverings so that they could put up more solar panels and they promised it wouldn't effect our stay except that it did because it was right in front of our building and there was not enough parking. They don't have elevators so when they put us on the third floor we had to be moved because my mom couldn't do the stairs. But the staff were nice, the atmosphere was nice and it was a perfectly nice stay.

This is a great place to stay for a vacation that's meant to unwind . Choose a room with a view of the ocean. We stayed in building 25 which was impeccable. The resort does not have beach access, but does face the ocean. The magic sands beach is a short drive from here .
The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, utensils and dishwasher. There is also a washer dryer with complimentary detergent. A grocery store is nearby. Our suite had 2 bathrooms and 2 televisions. Clean and well maintained . Parking is free and ample. No hidden resort fees were charged.
The pool and hot tub were clean, generally not so crowded. The concierge does a good job and they have a lot of activities at the resort. Do check their itinerary. They organize an orientation for guests on the first morning after their arrival with a spread of continental breakfast. Do not miss this session. For newbies in Hawaii not knowing what to do, this orientation could help a great deal.People from various local tour companies come here and talk about the tours they have to offer and can set one up for you if you're interested.
I would recommend that guests should stay for a week or more to explore Kona, the rest of Big island and enjoy the resort amenities.
I absolutely loved this place.
For golf lovers, they do have a golf course which was under maintenance when we visited. But I dint visit Kona to play golf, so it did not matter to me at all.
However, they do charge for renting their beach mats and beach chairs. There is a restaurant within the property called Aloha Friday that has live music and is by the side of the pool.

Room Tip: the property is huge, prefer rooms facing the golf course and the ocean .
