“Great all over again!”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

We last visited the Kona Coast Resort back in December of 2009, and are happy to say that the level of service, cleanliness and attractiveness of the resort has not diminished over the years. We own a timeshare, although not at this location, however we are able to trade for this resort. It is a good trade. There are zillions of timeshare resorts up and down the Kona side of the island, and we're happy with our choice a second time.

There were three in our party, two of us shared the master suite, our third member used the pull out sofa in the living room. Our room was a bit smaller than the first time we were at the Kona Coast Resort, however it was plenty big. Loved that it had two bathrooms, a decently appointed kitchen, decent furniture and a lovely lanai with appropriate and plentiful patio furniture.

We did not have a view of the water, instead we were looking over the gold course which is undergoing renovations, and was closed to visitors. There are two pools, one deemed a quiet pool, so no happy, squeeling kids there. The main pool also has an outdoor restaurant where you can enjoy a casual lunch or dinner. We did not use the restaurant this trip, but as I recall it was just fine.

I would recommend this resort to any who wish to travel to the Big Island, and in particular, those who may be traveling on a budget.

Room Tip: Many units face the waterfront, ask for one of those. The gold course views are green, but not excit...

The room at the Kona Coast was huge. We had a one bedroom and kitchen, then a split level for the living room and dining. The bath was large and the shower could fit 3 people. We had a small ocean view from the large patio. The kitchen was well stocked and had full size appliances, including washer and dryer. The kitchen is a little dated but it gets the job done. The staff is super nice and took care of any request immediately. The pool is nice and the bar was excellent. Great location and we had a garage. The air conditioning took time but, that has been my experience at other warm places. I would stay here again for sure.

Our unit was a great size. Huge bathroom and shower. Also good kitchen and living room size. When we were in the unit, we spent most of our time on the lanai admiring the views of the water and the sunset especially as we enjoyed breakfast every morning. We were right above the quiet pool which was the pool we went to when we spent time on site. The activities center was great for renting chairs and umbrellas when we went to the beach. Very close to a grocery store, post office and good restaurants. Also within easy driving of Walmart, K-Mart and Target. We loved that we were close to the more bustling area of Kailua-Kona but were not right there in the middle of everything.

Room Tip: Building One faces the quiet/adult pool. Room 203 is on the second level and has nice views of the...

Great rooms, helpful staff. Many facilities - pool, BBQ, tennis, volley ball, shuffle board, ...
The location is great. A nice snorkeling shore about 5 minutes from there, a lot of shops and a grocery store 2 minutes from there and much more.

Room Tip: Ground floors on building 30 are close to everything :)

Kona coast resort is only a 20 minute drive from the KOA airport and is located on the west coast where all the great beaches are, so it's a great location. However, the rooms aren't the best - as soon as we walked in we were met with an awful musty smell....even after blasting the air conditioner for a couple of hours it was still there, probably from the carpets. The smell alone was enough to make us feel ill at ease in the room. Also, the resort staff kept encouraging us to visit the "activities centre", but we found out it was because they were trying to sign us up for a 2-hour timeshare presentation in return for "discounts" on a variety of tours (discounted price wasn't that much lower than other third party tours which had much better ratings), so we were a little turned off by that. However, given the location, the size of the rooms, free parking and wifi, it is still great value.

Had a wonderful time at this property. The room was spacious, it was impeccably clean, the bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. It was a better value than I expected. I booked through a major website and got a good deal. it is near Ali Drive where several nice beaches are located. Staff is nice and there is a place where they rent gear and help you booking activities. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Book a room on the second floor.
