A trip to this bay is a must. Get the book "Hawaii Revealed" (it may be "The Big Island Revealed" Follow the directions to get to this bay. You will not find these directions in most travel guides as it involves driving down a road (if you can call it a road) that resembles the lunar surface.Once you arrive at the end of the road (there is a roundabout there) park and walk north...to the right..along the bay. In about 5 minutes you will come to a freshwater lava tube you can swim in. There is probably no where else on the planet you can do this. Afterwards continue walking about 20 miunutes until you come to a channel..you'll pass a few houses. You'll just know when you get there. Sea turtles swim from the ocean into the channel to sleep and feed. If you are there around 3:00 pm you'll probably see hundreds of them. The water at the channel is only waist deep (unless you wander farther out) so even the kids can stand in the water and watch the turtles swim within inches of them.
