“Absolutely beautiful property!”
Reviewed January 9, 2010

This was my first time in Big Island and I'm glad we stayed here. The rooms and property were beautiful. I do admit that there is a bit of mold smell when you walk in, but that goes away after a bit. The walls are thick, so you can rest easily. I would definitely recommend this property if you're not too high maintenance about the smell that does eventually go away.

This Condo Hotel was clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is great and close enough to town and beaches that we could walk to each (approx. 15 min walk). We did rent a car in order to drive to get groceries so we could cook most meals in the Condo. Some meals we prepared on the provided grills at the really nice central pool/eating areas. The other guests we talked to at the pool areas were very happy with the accommodations. Also, the pool areas were near the ocean and provided a very relaxing holiday.

the door , too bad because the condo was beautiful and looks to have been remodeled recently with high end upgrades. We had a great ocean view, with a huge deck I slept outside with the full moon because I couldn't tolerate the smell. I hope the owner of that condo is informed.

We stayed for three nights with three daughters aged 22, 18 and 17. Our first impression was they have given us 'Grandma's room'. The room was musty and old fashioned with very sad furnishings (Rm 512 - :-( ). When we discovered that the sofa was not a bed we went and asked for another room that would sleep us all without having to get a roll away bed. We were then offered the other end of the spectrum - a modern, well equipped condo. with new modern furnishings and extra amenities: even with a guest book explaining who owned the condo, what they had done to it , extra gear to use like beach chairs, bogey boards, esky and suggestions with where to go and what and what to see and complimentary cards to use. Thank you to the Hall family who own the condo - Rm 702... :-) WE LOVED THIS ROOM.. and it demonstrated that accommodation can really influence your whole holiday experience... and if you choose to stay here, don't settle for an ordinary room. I must say that even though it was a lovely room the curtains were broken, and although the maintenance man came to fix them, he could not do this in the time we were there. Hence, we had no privacy in the main bedroom. This was acceptable though, given the quality of the first room we were offered.
We booked through Outrigger and having stayed in an Outrigger condo complex on Kauai that was beautiful we were not expecting what we were offered here.
As for the whole complex, although it looks nice in the brochures the pools were nice but way down on the sea front, a huge walk from the seventh level and not really worth the walk.
We had a hire car which we parked for free but needed to use to get anywhere for groceries, shopping, sightseeing etc. We saw others waiting for buses etc. but did not use the shuttle services.
We did not have much confidence with the whole place after our introduction to the sad room and did not use the activities desk other to ask for directions to the nearest grocery shop. They were helpful and nice though.
After our first day we realised that they is no daily service unless you ask for it. We had to ring and ask for our 'trash' to be collected. When you are cooking daily we found we accumulated a lot of trash!!
We are thankful we asked for another room and as this is not something we usually we do, it was a big thing for us to even do this.. and as it turned out it made so much of a difference to our whole stay in Hawaii.
I would not stay here again even though the room we got turned out to be great. I just wonder if the desk staff know the quality of the rooms they put people into and how they decide room allocations??? Disillusioned and will not come back :-(

Because our original room had a problem with a leaky toilet, we were quickly moved to another room after only a quick mention of the problem to the front desk. The new room had personal touches by the owner, nice furnishings, complete, well-supplied kitchen, separate bedroom and lovely large lanae leading from both the bedroom and the dining-living room area and a view of the ocean. We enjoyed the two pools, one with a hot tub, and very well-maintained grounds (gardens everywhere). The staff were without exception courteous, friendly and helpful. Housekeeping were fast to respond to requests.
The only negative I would mention is that the location is not within easy walking distance of the town center of Kona. The closest stores are about 1-1/2 miles but the main town center is further. However, with a car, that's not a huge problem.

The hotel is a bit south of Kona. It is ocean front, but has no beach. The pool was great. We found we drove North of Kona most days to go to public beaches. This was fine as we were able to try different beaches every day. The size of the units was the real attraction. We had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a full kitchen. We were travelling with my parents and 2 young children, so this was perfect. We all had room without stumbling all over each other. The room was clean and modern. Keep in mind that because it is a condo hotel that cleaning service is only every 2-3 days. There is no restaurant on site. Parking is free. There is a business centre, but internet was not complimentary. Overall this was a great value hotel and we would stay here again.

We took a plane trip over the national park - I would really recommend this.

Pros: We were given a free room upgrade - a considerable upgrade - because we mentioned we were celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary. Room 702 - FANTASTIC view. Beautiful kitchen and furnishings and an in-room safe for valuables. Comfortable bed. Lovely gardens and grounds. Safe parking. The Expedia agents at the front desk were very knowledgeable and helplful.

Cons: There is no saltwater pool as mentioned on their website. There were two regular pools and they were very small and crowded. We did not use them. The hotel concierge (not the Expedia personnel) was clueless about things to see and do on the island. What info they did give us was vague and usually incorrect. Our t.v. remote did not work. Internet only worked in the lobby, not in our suite.

I would recommend this hotel for people who aren't interested in using the hotel pool, who would appreciate a quiet, restful, well equipped suite, and lovely grounds to stroll about in. Not first class by any means, but still very very nice.
