Description: Guests of the Island Breeze Luau will be amazed with a display of authentic Polynesian activities, cuisine, and performances. Island Breeze Luau, located in right on the edge of the ocean of the King Kamehameha Hotel is rated the best lu'au on the Big Island by kama'aina (local residents)visitors and travel writers. The luau begins with a lei greeting and picture taking. An open bar, arts and crafts await you. The imu (traditional underground oven) ceremony, is also a part of the exciting beginning to your Island Breeze ohana (family). There are many ways to participate in the luau activities: weave a coconut frond, learn how to open a coconut, learn the art of hula, get a Polynesian tattoo, and take the time to meet and talk to some of the performers. “Bad food, horrible service, good show.”
Reviewed June 3, 2014

We were very disappointed in both the service and the food. I purchased the luau as a 50th and 56th birthday presents for friends. I spent the extra $19 per person for premium seating etc. We were greeted and sat by Mike the maître d'. So he started off gruff but friendly which quickly went downhill. His demeanor change and was very unpleasant bordering on rude and definitely unprofessional. For the 4 of us we spent almost $400. We certainly didn't expect that kind of treatment. Unfortunately it just sucked all the fun and excited mood out of our entire group. As much as we tried to let it go, it had already changed the evening for the worse. Shortly after, it started to sprinkle and they moved the whole luau inside. So after another 30-45min of waiting for the move, the food was cold and not good at all. The show was good and the performing group was the only thing that saved the evening. If it wasn't for the show it would have been no stars. I would not recommend nor would I go to this one again.

“Great Show OK Food”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

The show is very very high energy and FUN to watch! The food is so-so, not memorable at all. The included cocktails and beer was a nice surprise! We had our show indoors due to weather, the dancers were amazing in spite of that. One fire dancer did his thing outside afterwards but too crowded to see. The staff is so great, you will feel the Aloha spirit and be one big Ohana!

“The only dissapointing experience on our trip”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

Ah, don't waste your time with this luau. We have been on three different luaus on the other islands - great times in Oahu at the Paradise Cove and The Polynesian cultural center. A very nice luau on Maui as well. This one - one of the worst experiences ever. We went on a Thursday night, the day was beautiful, in the afternoon some clouds showed up and even though not a drop of rain fell , we were told upon arrival that they have moved the luau inside. Very disappointed, we decide to try it out anyway. The check in was at 4.30pm, waited in a long line in a hotel lobby for almost an hour to get it. Once we got in - long tables put together, chaos - no assigned seating (which is a first for me at such an event), a person just pointing -"you go here". Food was OK, I don't expect it to be spectacular for such an occasion, there was fresh fruit, the classic purple sweet potatoes, pork, etc. The space, however, was so narrow, no room for any activities, no element of a relaxing and enjoyable luau. Once the performance started it was so loud because the space was so small - a ballroom full, maximum capacity. We left halfway, very disappointed, spend a good amount of money we could have used for a nice dinner or activity elsewhere. Instead of sitting inside on this beautiful night, we took a walk on the beach and the small downtown of Kona. By the way, it really was a zero rain night. No refunds offered, they suggested moving the date for the following week, but we had to leave 2 days later. We got a mere "Sorry" and that was it. So, folks, don't waste your time and money on this. There are so many beautiful places on the Big Island, this is not worth the effort.

“As good as any”
Reviewed May 9, 2014

This was the 6th Luau I've been to. This was as good as any and the food was very good. Upgraded seating will get you closer to the stage and faster to the food line if you prefer. Interactive crafts for the family. It rained on us so the staff handed out plastic bag poncho's and kept the show going. Drinks were good and not too watered down.

“great location, a well done show, and tasty food”
Reviewed May 3, 2014

there are numerous luaus in the area and we chose this one after some Trip Advisor research. in short, we enjoyed it more than we thought we would, having gone in to it as "something you have to do", primarily. the location is great, and there is ample parking at the hotel (though i'd prefer not to pay another $5 to park). i was pleased that the number of guests is more limited/smaller than i'd have predicted. it's nice that they have activities for the kids (and adults too) for the hour before the luau starts in earnest, and my daughter enjoyed this part very much. the food was better than expected, which was a nice surprise for me and my wife, who don't eat meat (but the Lomi Lomi Salmon is right up our alley, when eaten with poi). we were also pleased with how smoothly the process went to visit the buffet - definitely organized, easily negotiated, and well set up. the show, as many have mentioned, was the highlight. the Ohana theme is a nice one, and the performers all did a great job. it was even a little longer than i thought - you do feel like you get your money's worth, after initially feeling like it was a bit expensive.

this was a fun evening and definitely more so than we'd envisioned. we'd gladly visit again and can certainly recommend it to others, particularly if you're on the fence about doing a luau during your Big Island visit.
