Description: Guests of the Island Breeze Luau will be amazed with a display of authentic Polynesian activities, cuisine, and performances. Island Breeze Luau, located in right on the edge of the ocean of the King Kamehameha Hotel is rated the best lu'au on the Big Island by kama'aina (local residents)visitors and travel writers. The luau begins with a lei greeting and picture taking. An open bar, arts and crafts await you. The imu (traditional underground oven) ceremony, is also a part of the exciting beginning to your Island Breeze ohana (family). There are many ways to participate in the luau activities: weave a coconut frond, learn how to open a coconut, learn the art of hula, get a Polynesian tattoo, and take the time to meet and talk to some of the performers. Adults $82.74 Child (5-12) $41.34 Under 5 complimentary

The food at the luau was wonderful and plentiful. There was a huge variety of food and was in fact very authentic. I went with a friend of mine who lived in Hilo for over twenty years and vouched that the food was very local and authentic to Hawaii. The dances went on much longer than I expected (a good thing) and were very entertaining. I like that the dancers performed a different dance representing each of the islands in the Pacific. All in all it was a great experience that every first-time Hawaiian traveler should check out!

We have been to a Luau before, & know that they can be expensive, but had heard good things about this one, so when we were told there there were places available, we enquired about booking, & were pleasantly surprised it was only 77 dollars each(to hotel guests) when most luau's are a 100 dollars or more.
The entertainment was excellent, right from the start, with members of the show, demonstrating some of the skills they used on stage, & letting people try their hand at it. The food was good & plentiful, & the show was extensive, & at the end of the night, the dancers were only too ready to pose for pictures with the guests, which was a nice finish. A very nice evening indeed!

This was a fun experience and definitely something that I think you should do in Hawaii. Most of the event is all included in the ticket cost, but there are some extras to be considered. The first one is the seating upgrade. We took this because I had read some reviews about having trouble seeing and having to wait so long to eat. For that reason alone I was glad we did the upgrade. The line to get in was long, and if you weren't at the front, then you didn't get the greatest seats. There was also a charge to get a flower lei or a koa nut lei, but the next thing you know, they give you a shell necklace for free. Probably wouldn't have gotten the lei if I'd known this. The food was really good, as was the entertainment. They made a point to involve people in the audience, and the MC came around during dinner and talked to us individually which was nice. There were also quite a few activities before dinner which kept you from getting bored. Overall, I would recommend this if you've never been to a luau before and this is the only island in Hawaii that you'll be visiting.

After dragging our feet about going to another luau we took our 11 and 8 year old kids. They offer a free shell lay or upgrade for $5 for the large nut lei. They took our picture but the background was less than desirable with construction in it. There was tatoos and a ball swinging activity. Next the imu was revealed and the royal court floated in. There was a presentation and explanation before we sat to eat. The host upgraded us for free, I think because we had young kids. The food was average buffet and the dancers were quite good. They seemed to have fun during the dancing. The announcer had commentary or singing between the acts which was a bit hokey but I suppose they had to fill the time. There was live Hawaiian music the entire night. It is a fairly small place so preferred seating is not necessary for adults. Overall, it was nice and better than we expected.

We booked the "special" package which sat you very close to the stage, got you in early, and one of the first to enjoy the food. We felt like this was worth it. The food was very good and the luau show was really wonderful. The dancers were amazing and so was the dancer with the fire. Very cool. The best part was the walk to the hotel as we were staying at the King Kam!!!! Enjoy!!
