“A Great Choice for Manta Ray Night Snorkel”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

The Sea Wolf is a zodiac-style boat (bench seating, open air) that is fast and fun, getting you quickly to the cove where the manta rays come out and providing a beautiful sunset view along the way... with the splashes and wind whipped hair to be expected from a trip on a smaller boat. This is like riding in a convertible, not a luxury sedan. Once in the water, you are provided with a life vest that you can inflate to your preferred level of buoyancy, as well as snorkel gear and fins. Then you hold on to a floating board fitted with downward-facing lights which attracts plankton, which attracts the manta rays. There were many other boats in the manta ray area, and many other snorkelers/divers, but that actually increased the excitement of seeing these amazing rays swoop right up to you and do somersalts in the water. The captain and crewmember were fun and engaging - they gave great advice e.g. telling us which restaurants in Kona/Kohala Coast were still open when we got back to the dock (things close early in the area). This trip was one of the most memorable things I've ever done on the Big Island.

“WOW and YES!!”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

Our family of 16 -from 3 to 70 something - went to this dolphin experience and it was just terrific. The Sea Wolf is a sturdy inflatable and the operation was just what the GRANDs loved. The provided snorkel gear was provided, the operator KNEW where to find dolphins - and all were in the water watch, skimming and LOVING the experience. The pick-up was as expected and the morning was a delight for all. This is NOT swimming with "tame" dolphins in a big pool - this is in the Pacific Ocean with pods of dolphins. The sights of the coast line and the over all time was both impressive and worthy of many good memories.

“Friendly and helpful”
Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

The captain and his sailor were both very friendly and helpful. Let me clarify a few things: you will NOT be floating around in the dark in the middle of the ocean. We almost didn't go because that's what we thought it would be. You stick close to the coast, there are lots of lights and you hang on to a floating construction with lights. We saw several humpback whales on our way there.

“The Manta Rays are huge”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Our family of 8 did the Manta Ray dive with Sea Wolf Charters. Overall we were pleased with their service. The boat is faster than the other boats who do Manta Ray dives which is great because you arrive back at the marina quickly. Our only negative is that the guides scream when the manta rays come to your board. It was a little distracting but nothing to really complain about. Overall a very nice guided dive and by the way... the Manta Rays are huge. We got bumped by a few of them.

“Mantas surreal but this boat experience was not.”
Reviewed July 6, 2012

First, the manta experience is not to be missed. It is surreal experiencing the nighttime snorkel with the large mantas coming within inches of you. I loved that part, and I agree with another reviewer who said it's probably all the same when you're in the water.

There are many boats who go out to the exact same mantas, and the "Sea Wolf" is probably the smallest, least comfortable, and most scrappy. That isn't the part that bothered me, though. The captain's attempt at humor/charm came off as rude and off-putting and was the bothersome part. At some point, he yelled at my husband and threatened bodily harm... ummm? really? Even if he was being sarcastic at all, it was completely inappropriate.

Also, the crew hooted and hollered (like frat boys) whenever a manta was under us while we were in the water. We thought that was obnoxious and distracting. I'm sure the dozen or so other groups in the water with us, who were mostly quiet, did too. (The experience would have been much more surreal had there not been that distraction.)
