“can't recommend Sea Wife II”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

We booked this boat because it was one of the few that will let individuals pay per head for a four-hour session, instead of requiring you to hire out the whole boat by yourself. Each fisherman pays $100, and you are told in advance that you are obligated for a 15% to 20% tip. The office staff made a great impression, but the captain was unpleasant and the deckhand kept quiet. They both smoked on the boat. They booked 8 fishermen but they did not tell us that as soon as any one person got a bite, everybody else would have to stop fishing. There were two small fish caught. We spent most of the time on the water waiting while two other people fought their fish, one after the other. There seem to be different captains and deckhands that work for the boat. This guy could not possibly have been the one that another reviewer said was "serious about finding you a fish". We very much got the feeling that they had gotten their money, and they would put in their time, but it wasn't meant to be fun and they didn't care how it went.

While you are entitled to your opinion, I will not allow incorrect information to be posted about my company. I work very hard to maintain a good reputation. I will offer no excuses for my crew. If you feel they were off their game that day, I am sorry, I was not on the boat and didn't see that firsthand. 1) You are not told in advance that you are obligated to tip! In our office where you check in, their is a sign on the back wall in the corner that states "TIP GUIDE. 15-20% for services rendered, more if the crew is cleaning your catch". If you booked us through an activities desk, I am not responsible for what they may have told you, but no one here would have told you that. 2) As far as the smoking? I do not smoke myself, but I do realize that half the world does... You are told in the morning where the smoking section on the boat is. Non smokers can then stay clear of that area. 3) Fishing styles everywhere are different. On a shared charter here in Hawaii, we troll. Therefore, when a fish is hooked, all other lines have to be brought in for however long it takes for that fish to be caught or released. Everyone else "stops fishing" as you said, while that fish is being caught. Would you have been happy if it was your number that was hooked? 4) Crew gets paid the same whether we have our minimum of four or maximum of eight anglers. So your comment about them getting their money so they don't care doesn't make sense. My crew tries to catch fish, so hopefully they will get a tip as a reward. That is the only way their daily income would go up. I will always suggest, if you can afford it, book an exclusive charter so the crew can cater to you only and any fish caught will be yours. You said two fish were caught? Hopefully we had two happy people then, and those they shared their catch with may have been happy too.

“Professional fishing charter that yielded excellent results!”
Reviewed January 21, 2012

A great day at sea! Everything ran on time and everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Captain Kent and deck hand Reese along with Macco the pomeranian were knowledgeable and friendly. We caught 1) a blue marlin, about 100 lbs, tagged and released; 2) a spearfish, 35 lbs, that are only caught in Hawaii or Australia; 3) a tuna strike, the big one that got away; 4) another strike, another big one that got away; and ended with 5) a mahi-mahi, 13.5 lbs. The captain and crew weighed, cleaned the fish, and helped us pack the fish. Fishing is fun but actually catching fish is so much better!

“Excellent charter!”
Reviewed January 14, 2012

We've chartered fishing boats all over the Carribean and Florida and this was the best one thus far. The captain knew what he's doing. He's not a warm and fuzzy guy and isn't super outgoing, but he knows his stuff and he's serious about finding you a fish! He loosened up once we caught our 35 lb blue stripped marlin. We had two other bites that got away, but it was still an excellent 1/2 day trip. Reece, the deck hand, was very helpful and also wanted to ensure the trip was a positive one. The boat is clean and it's overall a great company. They will actually let you keep the fish meat if you catch anything- we opted to tag and release, but there was no pressure from them. Book with these guys and great ready for some Great fishing.

“Great day on the Sea Wife”
Reviewed December 23, 2011

We booked a full-day private on the Sea Wife for 9 of us.
Once we got everyone all loaded up, Capt Ken gave us the safety run down and on our way out, deckhand Reece gave us an orientation on the fishing gear.
The boat was great. Lots of deck room and storage and the bridge is a nice breezy place to hang out.
A bunch of our guys got sick and the Capt and Deckhand did their best to help with remedies .
We ended up losing a pretty sizeable Marlin partway through the trip. The one child in our group was reeling in the fish and his dad stepped in to help him out. In the confusion the fish ended up taking all the line off the reel. The Capt ended up ripping the deckhand a new one and then tore into the dad because he was "in the way". Pretty uncool.
Anyhow, the rest of the trip went very well. Everyone got fish and we ended up bringing in over a dozen tuna. Rhys trimmed out all of our catch and bagged it up.
I would definitely use these guys again.
The Captain was VERY knowledgable and for the most part friendly. Remember we hired him to get us on the fish, not to hand out hugs.
Reece was a pleasure to hang out with. He was very attentive to details, spent time keeping everything clean and in order, and overall just did a great job.
If you need someone to hold your hand and say please and thank you...I would find somewhere else to go. If you want a good clean boat, with a good captain and crew who will actually let you keep your catch, I would use these guys.
