“Not what I expected”

After what seemed to be a very long drive through the hillls, we arrived at Mountain Thunder coffee. We were very disappointed. The tour of the 'plantation' was a walk across the road to look at trees growing along the road. While this was informative, the tour person had a very poor attitude towards the visitors. Whatever you do, don't ask any questions as you will be told everything will be presented later, in no uncertain terms. She continued to state that she wouldn't ask questions if she were on a tour in our locale. The roasting area was interesting and the coffee was very pleasant. I wish we could say the same thing for 'Mother Goose' who led the tour. She told us she was referred to as 'Mother Goose' be the employees because the geese would flock to her every morning. Growing up in a rural area, I know that animals will flock to whoever is feeding them.

Greenwell farms had a great tour with a plantation. I recommend this tour instead.

“The Best Coffee!”

A cool tour to take - we went for a morning tour and enjoyed it. It was a bit tricky to find even with GPS. We had a nice tour and purchased some of their coffee.

“Kona Coffee!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

Mountain Thunder is a mid-size coffee plantation -- more industrialized than Hula Daddy but not as big as others. It is set higher in the mountains than others and a bit tricky to find, but worth the journey. Tours are offered every hour. Organically grown coffee. Informative tour.

“Best part of our vacation!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

That's saying a lot considering the beaches and volcanos. We signed up for the VIP tour which includes roasting and bagging your own coffee and lunch. The owner, I think it's Steve, gave us a great property tour and told us about his past and how he acquired the land and started the business. Very interesting operation and the hospitality from the owner and his family and staff was top notch. This is a must stop for coffee lovers and anyone who likes to see the entire process. Good fun!!!

“Good informative tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

The tour is very informative on how coffee is produced, espically for my 10 year old. Loved the location with geese, chickens and a cat. Coffee per pound is very expensive but loved the taste of organic Kona coffee.
