“Deferred Maintance, questionable safety codes”
Reviewed February 18, 2013 via mobile

The employees were good, but deferred maintenance every where, stuff growing inside main light fixtures to dinning & bar, & on the lattice over dinning area. All towels well worn,The railings keeping one from falling from the multi-story atrium looks below safety codes for height. It could be very nice if the owners would clean & maintain.

Aloha TA family, sorry to hear we let this customer down in some areas, but I'm glad they found our staff to be accommodating Although its a fact, we're not the newest kid on the block, we do strive to provide a clean and well maintained resort for our guests to enjoy. I hope they had a great time on the Amazing Big Island!

We just got back from a 6 night vacation at the Royal Kona. This is not a high end hotel but, is still a wonderful resort. We were given an oceanfront room and Wow what a view. The rooms are good size and very clean. Staff was very nice and helpful. They have a little beach and lagoon here, which you can swim and snorkel. We snorkeled here and saw lots of different fish, eels, and even a sea turtle on one day. This hotel is close to resturants, shopping and beaches. The only thing we were kind of disappointed about was, last time they gave coupons for breakfast to the guests and they said they don't do that anymore. We did choose to go to other places for breakfast instead of having breakfast there. We enjoyed staying here this time as much as our last trip. Thank you Royal Kona, you do a great job.

Before arriving here, we had just been at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu, where they treat customers like gold. More like silver or nickel here at Royal Kona Resort. Royal Kona didn't have a resort fee, but they charge for ever little thing. Local phone calls, calling card phone calls, 800 # phone calls, parking, and not sure what else. We had a King Corner room, which had a great view! That's the good part of the room. The decor was ok, but should be updated to be competitive. The lanai was in great need up maintenance. The carpet out there was torn. The concrete had raised in spots. The railings were rusty. We didn't have lounge chairs, like the pictures showed. The luau noise was annoying after a long drive from Hilo in the rain. The pool area didn't have bar service. And the pool water was cold.

Aloha TA family, sorry to hear these guests were disappointed with their accommodations. Seems like when it rains it pours, so read between the lines. No resort fees, items like internet, parking are ala carte, if you don't use, you don't pay, simple. Most people use their cell phones now for calls etc. As for the pool, yes we do have bar service, sorry if we let them down there. I truly hope they enjoyed Hawaii Island for all the amazing things she has to offer. Warmest Mahalo,

We booked a 9 night stay in a oceanfront room. The front staff was very fast and gave us a excellent room in the lagoon tower. second floor oceanfront. Binoculars are a must here.this time of year(mid-feb.) as the whales and spinners are just offshore.i was able to find spouts 90 percent of the times i looked.the kingbed was tired but still ok.maids were good and everything was done to perfection everyday.walking downtown is easy and quick.i would recomend a car rentall,as the fee is small and parking lot is secure.i would recommend this room for sure. the oceanfront is a must as being one of the best i have seen.it is a carpeted and covered lanai that has a view of waves, ocean, boats, pool and luaus five nights a week. room 249!! thank you, royal kona

Aloha TA family, its great to see how much these guests enjoyed their stay with us. It's pretty apparent we met and exceeded their expectations, we're glad they had such a good time. This time of year the whales are abundant, and through out the year, we have pods of spinner dolphins that reside in the waters fronting the resort, as well as the endangered green sea turtles (who frequent our private lagoon) Do your homework, you'll not find a better location and value that we offer here at the Royal Kona Resort, mahalo!

It is only rated as a 3 star and could easily be more with a bit of extra maintenance. The view is worth 5 stars. The staff were really nice and the room was clean. We would definitely recommend this hotel as a reasonably priced choice in an amazing area.

Aloha TA family, again, another satisfied customer who truly enjoyed their stay. Glad they found our amazing staff helpful, and found us to be an amazing value too. We do have fantastic views from the majority of our rooms, and of course our grounds that front the ocean. Warmest Mahalo,

The hotel is old (classic?). Go there knowing that it is old and then appreciate everything else about it. Room 253 is in a separate building with a lanai facing the ocean. Incredible ocean view. Room has a small bar counter off the bathroom with a sink and a bar fridge. The building has convenient main floor laundry facilities. Breakfast is from 8 to 10 AM. Royal Kona is within walking distance of the main downtown area and very close to Lava Java which offers fabulous breakfasts, lunches and coffee. Parking is extra at $10 per day.

Room Tip: Room 253 in the building across from registration desk - fabulous ocean view.

Aloha TA Family, another satisfied, well traveled guest. They pretty much nailed the fact that we have amazing rooms with all the amenities your expect at a first class resort. We are classic, and a true icon in Kona, not the newest kid on the block, but definitely a resort with the best location for the best value in Kona. We strive to provide a clean and well maintained product for our guests to enjoy, seems like we hit the mark again! For the record, breakfast is from 6:30-1a daily too. Warmest mahalo,

My wife and I spent six great nights in a very large garden/ocean view room with a Lanai. It is a dated hotel but clean, the dresser had sticky drawers, but the windows had wooden shutters which were great. The bed was comfortable but the bathroom small. Large flatscreenTV, small fridge and large closet for all our clothes. For children there is a small pool 2 feet deep. and a 6 foot deep pool for adults. Neither are heated. The hotel consists of 3 towers. We were in the main tower in the middle. The lagoon is nice with a sandy beach and a depth of about 3 feet when the tide is in. With a dive mask you could see many different kinds of fish. When you go to the pool, stop at the front desk to get your towels as there are none at the pool. A waitress comes around every so often at the pool to get your order for food or drinks. There is no jacuzzi or sauna, but a Spa in another tower. They have an exercise room in the basement in one of the towers. There is only one restaurant on the property but a dozen more within a 5 to 10 minute walk from the hotel with excellent food and reasonable prices. All have a Happy Hour, which is normally 3 to 4 hours! If you are a diver there are a few Padi dive shops near by. A one tank Manta night dive will be about $100.00 and a two tank Manta night dive will be about $180.00. In both cases all equipment is included; mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, BCD, etc. Day dives are cheaper of course. Would return again.

Aloha TA crew, glad these guests had a wonderful stay. One note to point out, our Fitness Room is complimentary, and located on the ground floor of our Bay Tower and is ONCEAN FRONT! So you can see the ocean and dolphins in the day, and catch an amazing sunset in the evening. They've given a thorough review, with lots of great tips, so pleased that we met and exceeded their expectations. I know they'll be back again! Mahalo nui loa!
