“Big Island Trip”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2012

We arrived Oct 15th and waited until 3 pm to ck in, however room wasn't ready until 4:15. Since we had been up since 2 am that was a bad start. We stayed in Rm 678 Lagoon tower-Ocean Front (Volcano Value Deal-$85/nt) which seemed like an excellent value. The room was adequate with a nice lanai and awesome view. Maid did great job. The surf was quite loud so although we like fresh air at night, we had to close the slider. The bathroom fan ran 24/7 so that was also noisy.

Was disappointed there was not a book in the room to explain services. Took laptop but never used it as didn't want to pay what I consider an astronomical fee for wifi. If I had really needed it I would have gone to McDonalds which seems silly in this electronic age. We were fortunate to find a parking place each day so didn't need to pay the $10 parking fee.

Used the pool twice and saw others enjoying the lagoon for swimming and snorkeling but we drove to other snorkeling spots. Watched part of the luau from the pool area. Didn't eat or drink anything at the hotel. There are many restaurants on Alii Drive as well as ABC store and Farmer's Market where we purchased 7 papayas for $2 and ate them for breakfast. The refrigerator in the room held our water and soda which we purchased at Costco on the way from the airport. Took a small soft sided bag to store some drinks when we were away from the hotel.

Overall we enjoyed out stay but there was something strange about the bed. Movement on one side would carry to the other side so woke me up in the middle of the night.

Aloha Ta crew, just a quick update, 678 is in our Bay Tower, and these lucky guests were upgraded to the Ocean Front complimentary! Checking on that noisy bathroom fan, but sorry, can't help the noise of the surf... :-) These guests also discovered the Farmers Market I talk about, just a short walk along Alii Drive, and used their fridge we provide to their advantage, $2 for a bunch of Hawaiian fresh papaya? what a score! As for internet, it is what it is at this point, I travel over 150 days a year on business, and the majority of the hotels I stay charge for internet and parking alike. Thank goodness we don't have a mandatory resort fee, which most Hawaiian chain hotels do! Great tips, satisfied customers, exactly what we strive to provide!

We were here for four days/nights. What a pleasant place to stay. Just beautiful. We were in the Lagoon Tower--had a great view of the ocean, which was lit at night along with part of the rocky shore. What a beautiful sight and romantic too!. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious, and all open to another great view of the Pacific Ocean. Had a massage at the spa which was truly relaxing and wonderful. The beds were comfortable, and the rooms were clean. As we were were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary there was a congratulatory card along with a bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room, a very nice touch by management--a big plus. We would stay here again.

Aloha TA family, glad to see these guests had a wonderful 50th anniversary with us. It's pretty apparent that their expectations were clearly met, if not exceeded. We truly strive to provide the best value for the best location in Kona. Warmest Mahalo,

We booked 5 nights at the Royal Kona resort with ocean view. We were in the Bay tower, room was horrible, bathroom grungy. Asked to be moved. The front staff is very accommodating. We were moved into the Lagoon Tower, the best tower in the hotel. The view was incredible the room very adequate. We were very grateful they found us such a great room. The grounds of the hotel are nice, the bar is right on the ocean. The luau is wonderful, great food and entertainment. Highly recommend the luau. The hotel needs major updates in the Bay tower. I would highly recommend this hotel if you were able to have an updated room. The hotel location couldn't be beat.
KC from Chestermere Alberta

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the Lagoon Tower

Aloha TA family, yes the views from our rooms are amazing, some of the best on the island, and definitely in Kona, hands down. FYI, we're in the process of going through our rooms to freshen them and ensure we're still providing a very clean and well maintained product, as the best value for the best location in Kona. We'll be seeing our friends from Calgary again soon, I hear winter is knocking on the door to our friends up north! Mahalo Nui Loa,

This lovely hotel is right on Kailua Bay a small beach with only a short walk to the shopping area and restaurants. I had a delightful room with a side sea view it was great just relaxing on the patio in the afternoon sun watching the beach activities. I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: A sea view is a must

Aloha TA family, it's nice to see a well traveled visitor had a wonderful time, especially when they had to travel all the way across the globe to see us! Glad they enjoyed the wonderful views, big spacious lanai, and close proximity to Kona town, just steps away from the hotel. Do a little research, and you'll have a wonderful time such as these guests did. Mahalo!

I had read all the reviews on trip advisor, however I had a budget and i wasnt going to go over it! My motto was 'how long do you spend in a hotel room anyway?' how bad could it be?
Perhaps other people stayed in other towers, but we spent 3 nights in a partial ocean view roomin the a'alii tower and it was amazing! The view from the room was lovely, the room was large and well kept and every morning we had a new cruise ship to greet us when we stepped out onto the lanai :). The hotel has the best location, the luau was very good. The only downside was the staff at the bar were less than attentive and less than friendly which was a shame as it is an amazing open air bar with a tropical atmosphere. We only went once & after the poor service went to other restaurants/bars on other nights. The continental breakfast downstairs is nice however the evening meals are pricey, but I'm sure are lovely. I'm not sure why people are so quick to judge this hotel - we like to stay in 4* places (in Aus) and this superseeded our expectations.

Aloha TA family, glad to know we superseeded their expectations, not sure if that'e even a word, but it sounds like a pretty amazing compliment in my book! Not to pleased about the lack of service and attention at the Bar, for those who've visited us, know they are pretty friendly normally, and pour a pretty kind mai tai! So glad they enjoyed, they did their homework and got an A+ vacation! Mahalo!

My newly wed wife & I spent 3 nights in this resort on our honeymoon. The place is excellent! From what I hear, we had a renovated room though. We loved drinking coffee by the lagoon in the mornings. Our room overlooked the luau which looked pretty fun. The bar staff was entertaining & they mix a great mai tai! They gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne because it was our honeymoon...

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.

Aloha TA family, looks like we met and exceeded these happy honeymooners expectations for sure. Royal Kona Resort is a popular place for honeymooners, and guests celebrating their anniversaries. We truly have the best location in Kona, and pretty tasty food and beverage, with amazing views. We'll look forward to seeing them next year for their first anniversary! Mahalo,

The Royal Kona is in a perfect spot, right on the rocky shore at the south end of the bay. We loved the sound of the surf, great for putting you to sleep. The Expedia concierge, Malia, helped us schedule activities for the three days we were in Kona. Although our room was near the back of the main building, it had a great view of the ocean. There are many places to eat and shop within easy walking distance.

Aloha TA Crew, this guest nailed it, we've got amazing views from the majority of our guest rooms. Not to mention the great views from our bar, restaurant, pool, luau, etc. Do your homework, ask some questions, and kudos to our friends at the activity desk who take such good care of our mutual guests, Mahalo!
