“Home away from home !!”
Reviewed March 22, 2005

My new husband & I stayed in a huge one bedroom condo and I mean huge. We had a kitchen with all the cooking utencils and a washer/dryer.
two large Lanai's. One off the bedroom and the other off the living room overlooking the golf course. The staff was tops giving us plenty of towels. They only change and make the bed every third night which is fine with us. We were very happy with the location as we did not want to be in the downtown Kona which is very busy. We will go back in a heartbeat.
They have three pools one being an adult only. The grounds are immaculate and we loved watching the mongoose which run around. No they won't come near you. If you want to be direct on a beach forget it. This place has a path you can walk on the ocean which is all lava rock...very cool and beautiful sunsets. The on premise Restaurant is Edwards. It is an outdoor Lanai overlooking the ocean with tiki torches at night. Dinner was excellent. and the service was perfect and friendly.
We would highly recomend the outrigger kanoloa and Edwards. Perfect for anyone except anyone of you who want to be in the middle of all the action then I suggest you check out places closer to downtown Kona. Also you can book tours right at the main lobby. Clay took very good care of us. He also reccomended a couple excellent restaurants and booked them for us. Mahalo to Kanoloa. Aloha !! ( note: there is also the outrigger hotel which is next to the best snorkeling beach ever )

Six of us stayed at the Kanaloa in May 2004. We had a fantastic time! When we arrived, the A/C in our unit was not turned on. But a visit to the front desk fixed that. It cost a little extra, but made life in the condo much more comfortable.

The furnishings were all newer and in great condition. Our unit was immaculate. The maid service came daily and all our requests for extra towels, etc., were always met. Plus, the dishwasher and washer/dryer really made this place feel like a home away from home.

Our absolute favourite feature at Kanaloa was the oceanside pool! My boyfriend and I could've layed on the pool deck for weeks on end. Hearing the ocean lap against the shore was very relaxing. Also, the BBQ units were a nice tough. Very big, clean gas grills.

We dream of our week at Kanaloa all the time! It was fantastic.

We stayed for 8 nights in unit 3406. Our view of the Bay was beautiful. The staff was friendly and very accomadating. The ammenities were exellent. The unit was clean, ( the carpet was a little icky) but other then that I have no complaints. Tremendous value for the price and after driving up and down the Kona Coast, I dont think there is another place I would rather stay!!! Would defintly go back. Note that each condo is decorated differently to the taste of the individual owner, and there are several floor plans. unit 3406 was a two bedroom with a bedroom with balcony upstairs and a bedroom with balcony downstairs. WE had 3 balconys or lanais each beautiful.

My husband and I have been to the Kona coast 4 times, and this resort has been the best by far. The grounds are quiet, relaxing and well-manicured. Because there is no large buildings, the sun comes through thru-out the complex. It also feels very secluded and uncrowded here, as the 4 condo units are nicely spaced around the grounds, and quite private.

We stayed in a unit on the ocean...the oceanfront units are very close to the water, and I slept with the sound of surf in my ears. Our 2 bedroom plus loft condo was excellent...roomy, tastefully decorated, huge master bathroom, and big lanai/balcony.

I would highly recommend renting from a private owner...we were able to see pictures of the condo we were to be in ahead of time, so there was no surprises when we arrived. We initally talked to a agency that rents out quite a few of the units, but when they wouldn't tell us what one we would have ahead of time, we searched on the internet for a condo owner that rents the unit out directly.
We also had a great, fresh seafood dinner at Edwards, the restaurant at the resort.

My partner and I just returned from a week's stay at the Outrigger Kanaloa at Kona condos. This is a great little resort tucked away from the crowds in a residental area. The condos are individually owned and some are more updated than others. We reserved our condo through Royal Hawaiian Condos and got a unit that is rented through Outrigger. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo marketed as a partial ocean view that had a beautiful full view of Keauhou Bay. We watched the surfers from our lanai as well as enjoyed the sounds of the waves crashing against the shore at night. Our unit was on the 3rd floor and had no air conditioning. We stayed the week of 1/30 though 2/7 which was overcast and rainy periods much of the week so the lack of A/C was not a problem as long as we left the windows open all day and the fans running. I can see how the upper floor units can be hot and sticky during full sunny days especially in summer. Our condo definately had that 1980s feel to it. The unit was immaculately clean and there were no bug problems but the carpet was badly soiled in areas and the furnishings were worn. The baths were clean but showing their age as well as the 25 year old microwave in the kitchen. However, we felt the trade offs were minor in comparison to staying in a much smaller hotel room in a crowded hotel. Our unit also featured a full kitchen and a washer/dryer.

The complex is kept up very nicely. There are 3 pools and onsite outdoor restaurant called Edwards. We only ate at the restaurant once for breakfast and we were not impressed by the mediocre food and service. The dinner is supposed to be very good but also very expensive. There is a shopping center close by with a grocery store and a good Thai restaurant.

One of the great features of this condo is it's location next to Keauhou Bay. We took a short walk over to the bay and did both a whale watch boat tour as well as the snorkel cruise both of which were on the Four Winds II. We would highly recommend the Four Winds for snorkeling and whale watching. The snorkel cruise was a full morning and took us down the coast to a protected bay adjacent to the Captain Cook Monument. The water was crystal clear and the marine life was amazing. The cruise provided all the gear and breakfast as well as a grilled lunch was provided.

If we come back to the big Island we would definately stay here again, but would try to rent a unit direct from an owner to be assured of a more updated unit. Some units do have A/C and you can request an A/C window unit for an additional charge.

We prefer Kona because it is quiet and less commercial than Maui, for instance.

The Kanaloa at Kona is beautifully manicured, quiet, ideal location, on-site restaurant which sits on the ocean and the condo's are typically very nice. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

We have stayed in four different condo's. For the most part, they are very clean and updated. Some are better than others, but that is to be expected.

While we are tempted to try something new in Kona, we always end up at Kanaloa!

We made our first trip to Hawaii in late October, 2004. We had a wonderful time the two weeks we stayed on the island. While we travelled all around the island the second week of our trip, my husband and I agreed we should have reserved the condo for the entire two weeks. It was clean, well appointed and very comfortable one bedroom unit. Who needs air conditioning with the breezes, fans and ocean view? The ocean and golf view was very relaxing. We were out and about most days on adventures so we did not use the facilities in the complex except the bar-b-ques. But it was great to have the kitchen and laundry facilities in our unit. We reserved the condo through an owners groups, Aloha Condos. Very professionally managed. If we return...I mean when we return, I would not hesitate to stay again at Kanaloa and the same unit.
