“A home away from home during our stay in Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

This was our fifth visit to the Big Island of Hawaii. Our first stay was on the Kohala Coast at a Mega Resort which we found gave us a somewhat negative impression of the Big Island. We then discovered Kanaloa at Kona and would not stay anywhere else. The property is immaculately maintained and has Security at the front entrance. The amenities are everything we needed during our three week stay. There was a problem with our refrigerator and maintenance took care of it immediately. The views are unparalleled; especially watching the sunset at the Ocean Pool or seeing the flickering lights of the City of Kona in the distance.

Thank you for your comments, yes, I think this is a "one of a kind" location. No through traffic, 5 minutes from a full shopping center, Pacific ocean on one side and golf course on the other. During your 3 week stay were you able to take advantage of some of our amenities like the 3 swimming pools, 2 tennis courts, 5 BBQ grills, and/or the herb gardens? If not, we will look forward to your next visit.

We have been fortunate to use this 3 bedroom condo in Keahou two times. The condo is very comfortable with an almost 90 degree view of the ocean and the town of Kona in the distance. The lanai provides a view that is unparalleled. One can easily view the manta rays and dolphins from the deck. The waves put you to sleep at night and the kitchen has everything needed to prepare meals. I highly recommend this unit. We hope to return again. The resort has 3 pools and very lovely grounds.

Thank you for your comments, yes we are lucky to have such stunning views. Our grounds and landscaping has won awards, and the judges have expressed that it was like a botanical garden. We have 31 different varieties of palm trees, 192 coconut trees, 3 areas of herbs and fruits, and many different flowers. Thank you again, look forward to your next visit.

I was unpleasantly surprised that the ants were in the kitchen and condition of master bathroom was not in great condition - for example Jacuzzi was broken (for long time) and everything need reconstruction.
Negative was noisy sound of air condition from neiberths.
For second view we found, that apartment has nice, because it has beautiful view to bay. Swimming pool, tennis court and grill area was very nice.

We stay in unit 1804 at the Kanaloa at Kona recently and thought it was a very nice condo. It is located on the second floor of the building and about 25 feet from the ocean. The lanai was great with a table, 4 chairs and a lounger and a great place to enjoy the mornings and afternoons. The condo had two bedrooms on the main level and a loft with two twin beds. The kitchen was very well stocked and prior guests had left condiments, etc - which was helpful. There was a gift basket with Kona coffee, pancake mix and syrup upon our arrival. We would recommend the condo.

Pros:
-Size of the condo
-Nice master bath with Jacuzzi tub, dual head shower (though one shower control was broken)
-Fans to assist in moving the air around in the condo
-Location directly on the water
-Great lanai and furniture
-Convenient and secure
-Clean
-Washer & Dryer in the unit
-Beach towels provided
-Tennis rackets and balls provided
-Board games, books, etc were provided

Cons:
-Paying $15/day for air conditioning if you opted for that option - which was needed when we were there.
-$165 cleaning fee
-Condo seemed to have been shut-up/closed for some time and had a musty smell/was stuffy in the guest bedroom
-Sheets, towels, pillows smelled musty
-Lots of rust on curtain rods, fans, iron, etc from the salt water
-Loft area was tight with all the furniture - but would be fine for two small children, except for the steps
-The bedframes had apparently rusted and squeeked with every move at night
-Would have preferred the pathway out front of the resort to be longer

In the months after I booked the reservation I received several emails from Outrigger that had better pricing for 2B2B OF units with a loft, but there were no pictures - so I am not sure if they were as nice a units as the one we stayed in. The one big difference was the lack of air conditioning and cleaning fees.

Room Tip: If you are looking for an OF condo and you enjoy sitting watching the waves and dolphins from the la...

Unfortunately the property doesn't disclose all the fees nor provide the view as booked. To be charged in addition to the booked price for A/C is ridiculous. If you offer A/C, then allow it to be used vs. charging for it separately. Provide beach towels since we are at the beach and there are pools on property as well. This seems to be a unit-by-unit offering. And for a bed, it would have been just as comfortable to sleep on the floor since the bed was so hard. As for "partial ocean view" as booked, well, I had a view of the grass overlooking the lagoon vs. a partial ocean view as booked. This was my second stay at this property and I will be VERY careful if there is a next time.

Room Tip: Make sure you know what you are booking and what the location of the unit is. There are many locatio...

Thank you for your comments, we will use it as a tool to make adjustments where we can. The only reason for the air conditioning charge is to offset (one of the worlds highest) power cost to that individual owner. Not all units have air conditioning so it is not possible to include it in the rate. As for views, there are many different choices, feel free to ask about looking at different units, I am sure we have a unit that meets to your liking. Once again, Thank you for your comments, and please consider us on your next trip to the Big Island. There are a lot of positives about this property unlike any other along this coast. No through traffic, Pacific ocean on one side, golf course on the other side, 3 swimming pools, 2 tennis courts, BBQ grills throughout the property, ping pong table, and free coffee in lobby.

enjoyed the condo at 1604, booked through Aloha condos, the process was smooth and easy. the condo is nicely situated toward the backside of the property, has a great ocean and fairway view. beautiful sunsets and quiet mornings from the lanais. the pool areas were clean and uncrowded, newly tiled floor in condo was nice as well as the new tile in spas. we usually stay at kona coast resort, but this was a nice change, the unit a little homier, great to have all the personal touches, the overall property a little more quiet, only downside- the walls were thin and the neighbors upstairs were loud. i would imagine at high season, Kanaloa would feel a lttile claustrophic because of how the units/buildings are laid out. but we are usually out for most of the day, so it was fine

Room Tip: bed in unit 1604 is soft and pillows lumpy

Background: we were travelling around Hawaii for two weeks and this was at the end of that time.
Reception: very pleasant, efficient and helpful.
Room: more like a mini house. We had paid extra (not much) to have a sea view, which was definitely worth it. The property was very clean, huge, extremely well equipped, comfortable bed, I liked having fans as I do not like air conditioning (apart from it being very un-green!) and plenty of hot water for showers. I did think that the bathrooms were somewhat dated and would benefit from updating. There was a bit of noise from a family in the room above ours, they had a small child and there was not much soundproofing, it sounded as though they were throwing a ball for it to fetch! Ask for an upstairs room if possible.
Outside areas: immaculate, the pools were a little small but it was very quiet, we often found ourselves the only one's there. As most of the apartments are owner owned it does not have a 'hotel' feel about it. We liked this but some of you may prefer the buzz of a busier place.
Staff: we had to call out maintenance for some help, they came immediately, a great service. Everyone you saw was cheery and always said 'hello'.
Area: great for touring around, Sheraton was good for drinks and was in easy walking distance, loads to see, not enough time.

Room Tip: Upstairs and with a sea view
