We (my wife and I) have been fortunate to have dived all over the world, and have even owned my own Florida scuba store with a charter boat operation for 14 years. Having said that, I have never seen a more organized, friendly, and knowledgable staff, both in the main store and aboard their dive boat, including my own company! When they can look at their computer, days in advance, and tell you the crew you will have for the Manta Ray dive, that is organized!

The dive was, in a word, spectacular! Keller, the divemaster, was enthusiastic to the max along with Capt. Alexie (sp?). The boat has a hot shower, the snacks were the best we have ever had on a boat, and there is plenty of room on the 46 Newton. We set up for the manta dive and several mantas came close, but then Keller moved us about 100 feet and we were literally swarming with mantas. Many operators would have been happy just to let you see a couple and make life easy for themselves, but he made sure that we were getting the full amount of action available. And "swarming" mantas is what we had! Literally coming directly at you and from behind at the same time. A magical experience, and one that gives the manta dive at Yap a run for the money (We have done that dive as well). We saw more mantas here than all of Yap. Naturally there is always bad/good luck involved in being at the right place at the right time, but what can you say when surrounded by several dozen mantas! In sum, Jack's Diving Locker runs a safe and well organized operation and deserves 5 stars for this experience.

I went on the two tank manta dive throught Jacks, Fist dive (daytime) had a great dive brief fun crew and dive masters followed by an OK dive (not that much to see when diving Hawaii). However, the night time Manta dive was NOT TO BE MISSED. Once again, excellent brief followed by 40 minutes of the best interface with large animals you will ever experience. Divers lay on the ocean bottom, snokelers float on the top. All with lights. When the plankton gets thick the Manta show up. On the night I went there were 11 different animals showing up in groups of 2 to 4. FANTASTIC!!! On the way back to the boat we ran into 3 more mantas still on the feed. Smallest was maybe 6 feet across, largest was 12 feet tip to tip. It's like diving with small cars driving all around. Back to the dock by 9:30. Book early as this trip is popular.

The manta ray night snorkel was a really wonderful once-in-a-lifetime experience. The only thing that kept us from giving them 5 stars is that when we arrived and asked to book this, it was on our first day in Hawaii and so we didn't know that the high winds we were experiencing were abnormal even for the strong trade winds that hit Hawaii. So we went out that night for the manta ray dive and while we had a lot of fun, we both ended up terribly sea sick because of how choppy the water was both in and out of the boat because of the high winds. It would have been nice if they had mentioned to us that the winds were especially high and that it might be better to book another night for the best experience, especially if anyone is prone to sea sickness.

They were nice and provided snacks and water, but neither of us were interested in them after we had already emptied our stomachs over the sides. They did, however, take good care of us and the group, and our guide was able to point out different things about the fish and manta rays that we saw.

I recently participated in a Dolphin Watch snorkeling adventure with Jack's Diving Locker. What a wonderful experience. We saw many Spinner Dolphins was well as numerous fish like parrot fish and yellow tangs among the reefs. As a bonus, Jeff learned that there were some pilot whales in the area which he was able to locate and give us several attempts to view from the water. Everyone on Jack's staff made this trip enjoyable, informative, and well-organized. In particular, I welcomed the safety tips and overall approach to ensuring that each person had a fulfilling experience, answering my many questions, and providing a secure and fun atmosphere on the boat. I highly recommend Jack's Diving Locker and look forward to the opportunity to go SCUBA diving with them in the future.

I did the two tank twilight and night manta ray dives. On the first dive, the dive master said we might see a manta ray (only one seen during the day that week) and a shark, and then maybe a mermaid! Well, we
saw two manta rays up close, and then three bottle nose dolphins came down to our depth, one coming within 8 ft to check us out. After that, the DM wrote on his slate, "where is the mermaid?"
On the manta ray night dive we saw nine mantas doing their acrobatics as they fed on the plankton.
Jack's is a very well run operation and the boat has plenty of room and enough crew to see to your needs. I would highly recommend them to anyone who would like to do the manta ray dive on Kailua-Kona. But do yourself a favor, and do the two tank dive with them- you might see the mermaid!
