This is for the property adjacent to the Hale, on Kahananui Place. It had big Chinese red double doors at the top of the landing. It is a stand alone house, with an apartment below. There is a small swimming pool below which is only for the upper unit's use.

This property is a huge, three bedroom unit with a back lanai which extends across the whole of the ocean facing side of the house. There is an eat-in kitchen as well as a dining area in the large living area. A separate laundry facility was off the kitchen. No clothes pins for us to use the line across the back of the house.

Supposedly the lower unit was only for a woman and daughter to use when they take tennis lessons, coming over from Hilo side. Surprise! State of Hawaii big white truck appeared in the drive and we had someone below us.

No garbage can available at first. Then it suddenly appeared. Full from the downstairs unit's occupants.

Wi-Fi is available. Not a particularly strong signal.

In one bedroom, there were 2 singles. This room had filthy mini-blinds which also did not work any more. The bathroom near this bedroom had a shower head which pointed to the wall. When an attempt to adjust the head was made, the whole pipe began to move and we stopped that motion. The shower head was used in the skewed position.

The living room has the main tv as well as two light fixtures. Overhead fan unit had many burned out bulbs. The small table lamp was the only side lighting. Very hard to enjoy your meal when you cannot see it.

In the kitchen, there was no soap for doing dishes - either in the sink or in the dishwasher. Had to buy that. The cycles on the dishwasher were messed up - a waste of water in extreme drought conditions? The cooking oil was rancid. The plastic storage containers were all filthy to the touch and we cleansed them in the dishwasher. Many did not have appropriate lids any more. The stove was recently acquired and the knobs, to me, were put on 180 degrees wrong.

The master bedroom had a TV but only worked on 3 or 4 channels, even with a cable feed. Call to management said "oh someone messed with the line". No resolution-ever. The neighbors off the side windows of this house were loud and you could hear their conversations easily.

The front door knob lock was without a key. No resolution to having that repaired/replaced during our stay.

In the bath off the master, the sliding window track at the corner was full of dead cockroach bodies. That bath also was very unique - an oval tub sunken below the floor level. There was a hand wand to use to bathe in shower mode.

There is a 3rd bedroom with a queen futon couch and desk. The living room furniture also converted to sleeping units; another queen plus a single.

The roll shades off the lanai were all messed up - unable to be lowered or raised. Also the grill for use there had a broken auto-lighter and the cooking surface was completely rusted out. Who wants to cook on that? The lights mounted on the walls outside were dead. Had to use a small clip light to grill by after sunset. Also, some of the screens off the living room had rat-chewed holes in the corners. How hard is it to put small patches on screens?

We found a bottle of water under the sofa in the living room. Plus other debris under beds. The people leaving are expected to clean up their messes. Riiiiight.

The place needs to be professionally cleaned at least once a quarter as long as the current cleaning policy is in place.

For $99+ taxes and fees / night and paid in cash/check, you get what you pay for.
