“Great stay- quiet place”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

If you are into fishing this is the place to go- there's lots of affordable great vacation rentals- on. Kayaking, hiking to a very private beach Honomolino, walking around the flats, snorkeling are many of the activities there.

“Best Hawaiian vacation yet”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

Our family, all adults, rented a house on an ocean cliff in the Miloli'i Beach Community subdivision for ten days in August. It is a spectacular area about an hour's drive from Kona, situated well for day trips there or to Volcanoes National Park or Hilo. It is probably not ideal for a first trip to Hawaii but is perfect for return visitors who prefer someplace private, quiet and a little remote, away from the congestion of the resorts. The drive up and down the mountain (about 10- 15 minutes) can get tiring so you need to plan shopping and other excursions accordingly. Compared to a Hawaiian cruise and a stay at a resort in Maui, this was most enjoyable.

“Great place to stay if you want beautiful peacefulness”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

Milolii is down a winding road, and sits at the base of the gigantic sloping hillside. There are actually two different areas called Milolii. The first section includes the homes that sit along the long winding road down, and also the "flats" at the bottom of the hill (Milolii Beach Lots). It is a community of private homes, some that do overnight, weekly, and longer rentals. The reviews you read about are in that area. Residents are friendly, with a mix of full-time residents, part-time residents, weekend homeowners, and tourist that are renting overnight or for a few days/weeks.

If you keep on the main road, and go past the flats, you will come to the fishing village of Milolii. There is a small beach park there, at the end of the road. The homes in that area are residents of the last remaining fishing village in Hawaii. This is NOT the area that you'll find the rentals. I expect that any comments you read about a less than enthusiastic reception for tourists are related to this fishing village area, where residents have an understandable wanting of privacy. Your respectfulness will serve you well.

Milolii Beach Lots is actually a great hidden gem for people who are looking to buy a vacation home, second home, or well-valued home in which to live year round. And it is great for a quiet vacation destination that offers beautiful ocean views and breezes, and usually warm and sunny days.

“Remote”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

We traveled here from the advice of our guide book. We were disappointed. There were no other visitors in the area and it was a Saturday. It looked like it might be a pretty area, but as other reviewers stated, the locals didn't seem to appreciate our presence. We hiked out to see a pretty beach, but started seeing signs that were so old the writing was gone. We weren't sure if they were no trespassing signs or what, so we left. There didn't appear to be much to see and it was very remote.

“Desolate”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Windy, steep and uninteresting road down from the highway leads to a remote and barren community. Very little to do and far from stores and restaurants. Locals from the impoverished fishing village none too friendly. Honomalino Beach the one bright spot.
