firstly i must say i never usually go half board, but half board was least expensive than bed and breakfast so we opted for this option.

on arrival staff very friendly and the room was gorgeous. we had a pool view and the room itself was very clean, with a lovely bathroom.

not that we got the weather but the pool area was lovely too and kept very clean. i exagerate, we got a couple of days of sun, it rained the rest though.

the breakfast in the hotel was lovely. a great range of choice, with omlets/ scarmbled eggs etc getting made on order. evening meal however was not upto a high standard, but i went out for this most nights ever.

there are lots and lots of lovely restaurants within the centre of umag, especially if you like seafood. especially the restaurants along the front.

to get to the centre you're best getting the little train the runs too and from. you'll not miss it. this is the cheapest (and funest!) way to get there.

the location of the hotel is nice for walks etc. but it is a wee bit outwith the centre. think it takes about 20 minutes to get there on the little train.

the spa in the hotel is great! lots of different steam and sauna rooms to choose from and a lovely jacuzzi. be aware though you arent allowed bathing suits in the steamrooms or saunas. this didnt bother me, but just thought i'd warn you : )

anyway, i had a lovely time at this hotel, but as a young couple i would recommend it maybe for perhaps an older couple. also i would rate it a 3 star, not a 4. and to conclude, i would recommend bed and breakfast rather than half board. the breakfast is great but the evening meal not so great.

enjoy your holiday. : )

The service was acceptable but nothing to rave about. One of those obligatory things hotel staff members should do.

The room was a decent size. The beds were comfortable. The water pressure do-able. However, they do not turn the building A/C on until a certain time of year. That time of year was not May. It was HOT!! Opening the windows helped, but not much. They don't mention the non-functioning A/C until you inform the front desk that the A/C was 'broken' before you got into the room. I didn't want that bill added to the final hotel bill.

The hotel advertises being by the ocean. You cannot see the ocean from your room. You have to take a small walk. If you expect there to be a beach, then you will be disappointed. People lay out on chairs, on concrete. There are no sandy, rocky, grainy beaches in this area.

This is a nice taste of seeing Croatian seaside, but if you have the time, drive further south or go to the islands. It seems that in a few years, the area will be transformed into a casino type town. By that, I mean, loads of tourists who want to gamble, stay at cheap/reasonable hotels, and be close to the water. Not my type of place, but could be pleasurable for a certain type of traveler.

I liked that dinner and breakfast was included in the hotel price. It is buffet style. The food isn't great but it is not awful either. At least there is a variety of foods available.

I stayed in Sol Garden Istra with my family ( including my elderly grandmother) and a couple of my parents' friends. It was croatian winter.

To begin with, we were so pleased with how the room catered for my gradmother, who has a rolling walker. The bathroom for her included a seat and railing and she felt so comfortable and safe, and when she went to breakfast by herself, the staff would assist her and keep an eye on her.

The staff are lovely. Reception speak english, but of course as expected, other staff have limited english. But communication is not a problem - someone will always be able to speak english, italian or german.

The rooms are great! very attractive and clean, and the beds VERY comfortable ( i slept like a baby!) And wonderfully, they have blackout curtains so when you shut them, its pitch black inside (great for getting over jetlag!) The walls are pretty thin, but that didnt bother us but i can understand how it might bother some people.

Breakfast is AMAZING. HUGE buffet breakfast with everything you could imagine. ceral, eggs, french toast, sausages, bacon, pancakes, crostili, a wide selction of unusual juices...the list seriously goes on and on. It was a joy!!!!

If you're after the internet, they have a couple of computers tucked away in the games area in reception. The games area has table soccer, darts and arcade games. probably just the thing to entertain kids. The pool outside looks amazing, but as it was winter and frozen over, there was the indoor pool available to us which was also very very lovely!

there's a little shop where you can buy toiletries, snacks and magazines - very handy for when you're stocking up to get back on the road, or you forget your toothbrush!

The hotel is situated along a strip of pubs and clubs, although as can be expected, its not very jumping in winter. (I hear its awesome in summer!!!) Its a long walk from the hotel to the city centre, but in a car it doesnt take long at all to get to great places such as the piazza, Disco Bar Dante's (biggest and best selection of hot chocolate) and the Bevanda tavern, where we ate each night. Friends of ours had dinner at the hotel, which was only 6 euros each (probably because it was winter, but still! cheap!) and they raved about how lovely it was!

I would reccoment the sol garden istra to pretty much everyone! it was a wonderful experience

We thought we had booked a four star Croatian holiday but we were very disappointed with the hotel and the location. This hotel is in no way four star, three star rooms if you are lucky. The walls are thin and you can hear conversations next door. We booked a double room but received 2 beds together and were told this was a double. The resort is large and has 3 out buildings to the main hotel. We stayed in one of these. The main hotel has a lovely swimming and spa area however, the main lobby is large and is a smoking area. We felt we could not sit in there at all due to heavy clouds of smoke and this filtered through to the eating area. This really spoiled our holiday. The food was on the whole good but water is expensive to buy at £2.50 for a 75cl bottle and they will not provide table water for free. The staff are dour faced. The hotel is very isolated, with taxis being expensive. The mini train to Umag was a godsend however it goes no further so we ended up hiring an expensive car for the day. We thought the trips were expensive and although the trip to Venice was good, you are only paying for the transport, everything else is extra, like a mini boat tour around Venice. You even had to pay extra to sit ontop of the boat, 7.50 euros each! We found despite going half board that this is an expensive country on the whole. Croatia is beautiful but we would go back to a city area. Be warned about hotels far out as you can be very isolated! We went at the end of September and much of the resort was closing down at this point, despite high prices. The area is very much influenced by Italy with Italian food etc. The walks, bike rides and sport is good if you like that sort of thing. The water slides were closed down.

With regards to disabled travellers, we had a wheelchair user with us and found the resort mainly easy to use, as it is quite flat and adjoining towns. Porec old area is not really suitable for wheelchairs, unless the person is very light. The hotel has lifts and is accessible. The beach is stoney and has stairs down to it.

I would not receoomnd this for younger travellers unless they are hiking and sporting.

All in all the hotel is not worth more than strong 3 star. The price-value ratio is not satisfactory. And here are the reasons for that:
We spent our 2 weeks family reunion holiday at the hotel. The main building, pool area, istrian village, park looks like 4 star. Food and Beverage department is also 4 star worth. Evening entertainment was nice. Beach was clean and nice in 8-10 minutes walkind distance.Umag city not a big entertainment town compaired to other Istrian citys but not a big problem as far as Porec,Pula etc. are not too far. Even in Slovenia you can find beautifull caves.
Problems we had and made us very disappointed are the followings. We received 3 rooms next to each other and all of them were molding. It smelled like mold. After one week our babys cot brought from home was totally moldy. :-( Big problem for a baby with asthma who was coughing worth and worth with every night and couldn’t breath well. We complained. And were suprised that hotel is aware of the problem that the basement rooms are wet and moldy. So if you book than make sure you don't book rooms at the first floors. Upper floor rooms were nice, clean, dry. But this doesn’t help the memory of the first week cause the second week was for recovering from the first one as far as nobody could sleep well because of the babys breathing problem. In the new room of second week all asthma problems were gone.
This resort supposed to be a wellness hotel. Although on cold rainy days the sauna and whirpool area worked just from 3 pm.(somehow after 2 pm. the weather turned always nice so we could enjoy the sea and pool area and were not interested anymore in the spa). Sauna, whirlpool was not included in room price. Which we think is kind of unusual for a 4 star wellness hotel.Wireless internet cost was for 24 hours 120 KN approx. 18 euros. But if you opened your computer it just offered 3 service providing free internet from the air. So hotel looks kind of ridiculous asking money for something which you can have for free and which should be anyway provided for free nowadays in a 4 star hotel. In service the staff could still learn a bit more how they could go above and beyond. How they could offer simple and nice service. But maybe the problem is the language barrier they have with people not speaking italian or they own mother tounge.
