this hotel has a perfect location,it was spotless ,staff were polite and attentive, the music at night was a bit boring, not a lot to do locally, rooms are large and if you get a sea view.....the view is beautiful...only down side was we arrived about 10.30 pm tired and hungry but were told the kitchen was closed and no one could even make us a sandwich

We had two days in the hotel and we enjoyed it all the time. Great wellness center and spa zone... Nice rooms with sea view, nice surroundings for walking by the sea and enjoying in sea air. In the evenings we had live music in the lobby bar - i think it's very important, because some guests don't go out of hotel and in this way they can have fun :)
Buffet breakfast and dinner were great! Next time we'll book full board not only half board ;)

Nice hotel great views easy walking to places of interest but hotel food poor as it could not be kept warm >therefore a number of guests preferred to eat out> Entertainment very poor and many shops and bars closing (in middle of September)

Excursions expensive poor value for money in some cases

The Sol Umag was a overall great experience, a top class hotel in a top class location. Stayed in a double at top floor (3rd) facing seafront, great views over sea and surroundings.
The room was spacious, had a huge, comfy bed, separate seating, desk and minibar. Quite spacious bathroom as well, with a tub/shower combination. Aircondition which was fully adjustable kept a pleasant temperature in room.
Balcony with seating for two, not huge but ok. Only thing that's not ok about the balconies on 3rd floor, is that they are just divided with a low "fence" - offers absolutely no privacy, you sit litterary back to back with your neighbours. Better on 1st and 2nd floor, I'd try to get a 2.nd floor room next time!
High standard hotel with high standard rooms, allthough we experienced an odd smell from bathroom from time to time.
Had half board with breakfast and dinner buffet included - a big variety of great food to choose from. All of the staff was very serviceminded and helpfull, both in reception and restaurant.
If you like to stay by the pool all day, you better get up early and place your towel on one of the sunbeds. Saw that the guests started to place their towels as early as 7 am in the morning and after 8 am all were taken. Sunbeds by the pool free of charge, the sunbeds by the seaside is charged a daily fee - about 20 kuna. Lots of beaches nearby, minitrain stops every 30 minutes right next to the hotel and takes you either to Katoro or to town centre. Minitrain cost 10 kuna for adults and 5 kuna for children one way. Restaurants, shops, bike hire, games and more in walking distance from hotel. A outdoor bar with live entertainment every night. Be aware that the entertainment is pretty loud for rooms facing pool and seafront, not ideal for families with younger children who goes to bed early. Not very noisy in room when you keep the door closed, but if you like to sit outside on the balcony while kids are asleep, you better be prepared to wait until late. Entertainment ends at about midnight. And no, you can't just close the door while seated outside - it's not possible to close the door from outside. All in all Sol Umag was a very nice experience and I would absolutely reccommend this hotel.

Our last minute 7 day break turn out to be a gem. The hotel is spotless, as was our room which was a very good size with all the usual facilities. Out of the large cool lobby, bar & lounge area you walked straight out into the relaxing patio & garden area, and 50 yards further to the sea. The pool although small was ideal for the guest who can't manage the 30 secs walk to the sea, or don't like swimming in the crystal clear blue flagged waters.
PLEASE NOTE. There is no sandy beach.
The evening entertainment was a hit with families, although it was a little holiday camp for grown adults.
The highlight of the holiday was a daytrip to Venice (21/2 hours on the boat from Umag) by a local tour company. A long but rewarding day.
The buffet meals on the half board stay were good but I wouldn't recommend them or the local area for more than 7 days, unless you like repetition and sun worship.
