First of all, staff is just perfect! Hotel is very nice designed, rooms are very stylish. Spa zone is very nice, you can make reservation for massage. Breakfast is big choise of hot and cold. Wifi included. Lanvin cosmetics in bathroom, beds are soooo comfortable, pillows are excelent. Cleanliness is wonderful! Romantic place and hotel on top of the hill. Only minus for parking :(

The location, on top of the hill, just past the large city gate (Vela Vrata) is perfect, offering glorious views over the valleys below and spectacular sunsets. The perfectly restored property shines with its turquoise shutters and granite floors. The Vela Vrata is one of a kind for hundreds of miles around.

The rooms are tastefully designed with decorative wallpaper accents, unique furniture pieces and overall thoughtful use of space.

The bed is comfortable, but the pillows I found to be too bouncy? (perhaps because they were synthetic and I'm used to down).

The bathroom is spacious and has a multi-function massage shower and LANVIN toiletries, wow!

The hotel spa can be booked for private use and I highly recommend you take advantage. You will have your own personal playground for and hour, or two if it's not too busy, where you can soak in the hot tub, relax in the sauna and enjoy a cup of tea on the loungers.

The indoor pool is also a nice retreat form the heat.

The breakfast is both cold and hot with a selection of cheese, veggies, pates and the like, as well as eggs cooked how you like them, with ham or other ingredients.

Overall this property is top-notch. The price is right, oh and did I mention the delectable truffle-full menu for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is a must and really the only worthwhile place to eat in town!

This was actually our second stay in this hotel and again all was excellent! Friendly staff, nice food, great ambiance and to our surprise they even added a indoor pool!
Good value for money and a great place if you like to slow down a bit and enjoy life just that bit more!

This is a lovely hotel in a charming town. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. The hotel makes a good base for exploring the area. We were upgraded to a nicer room which was much appreciated. Service in the restaurant was quite good. The new indoor pool is refreshing and pleasant. I highly recommend.

The Vela Vrata is a wonderful place for a few days' relaxation, with beautiful views from the terrace over the valley. Staff very friendly and helpful, food was excellent, both at breakfast and at dinner. The hotel's site is rather cramped, so the public space inside was very limited (but you only need that if it's raining or not so warm). The reception area had low-grade muzak all the time, but it didn't penetrate the bedroom floors.

Driving up the winding cobblestone roads through the stately archway brought us to a truly picturesque hilltop retreat that allowed our business stay to also mingle with pleasure. The beautiful, uniquely designed rooms, outstanding service and the dining provided us with an experience to remember.

Here from America, we are on business travel that focuses on filming a documentary series on Croatia, specifically Istria's town of Buzet with this stop. After long days of shooting and chaotic schedules it is extremely important that the place we find ourselves at the end of the day invites relaxation and rejuvenation to allow us to continue to do our work well. Vela Vrata exceeded my expectations and opened my eyes to the vast benefits of a smaller boutique hotel.

The rooms are intricately designed and create a simple elegance. Every aspect of the rooms has been throughly thought out and well crafted. Also, most importantly, it has been the best sleep that I have gotten on our trip so far!

Compliments to the chef and the staff at Vela Vrata for the outstanding dining experience. With savory wine to perfectly compliment the distinguished flavors of the black and white truffles that Istria is known for, American cuisine will now be difficult to adjust back to. The intimacy of the dining area allowed for our team to have business discussions but also at other meals provided the opportunity to be introduced to other guests and share in valued conversation about the region.

I left my time at Vela Vrata eager to return and feeling like a valued guest and friend rather than a simple room number in the triple digits. I am still craving the food, wine and incredibly comfortable beds! Istria will be remembered even more fondly because of my time at Vela Vrata.
