“Its a Dump - avoid avoid avoid”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

Despite booking aground floor room as my mum is disabled they put us on the first floor (no lift). Then we entered the "appartments" and oh my god they were awful!! The first one for my mum & children had 1 bedroom and bunkbeds in the hallway for the children. The second one smelt of Petrol. Both of them were freezing cold all night with no heating and very old thin blankets. The blocks are in what I can only describe as a very rundown council estate & the flat next door had a union jack for a door & there were rude posters & dumped buggies etc all over. We were terrified staying there and when we called them to complain (reception is not manned at weekends!!!) they put the phone down on us. We checked out immedioately & went elsewhere AVOID AVOID AVOID

This hotel was a total disappointment, the pictures on the website I used to book this hotel are totally misleading. Let me start by mentioning the few good things about this place. It's an apartment with a complete and fully stocked kitchen. The apartment we got had a living room and 2 separate rooms, which is great for families. Now the bad, for starters this is not a regular hotel like we were expecting, they are renting empty rooms in a residential apartment complex. The place is run down, the furniture in the rooms is super old and they outright smell. The towels were clean, but old, they looked like they came from the owner's house, some even had names on it... The mattresses, bedding, and pillows were so old that I was little afraid of catching a disease. Needless to say that I would not book this hotel again or recommend it to any of my friends. I travelled with a group of friends and we all had the same opinion about this place.

We found these appartments easily and it was after the 17.00 closing time but having made contact beforehand the key was left in the door for us. On arrival we did meet several people in this half residential/rented park, there are three blocks of three storey buildings 50m apart plenty of parking, lawns and childrens play area - well equipped kitchens although they do look as if they have undergone some refurbishments, 4 ring hob and microwave, fridge. Sheets and towels were supplied which was a nice surprise.

In the village of Kelmis we went into a bar and after one hour and the refusal of several drinks we left with many friends and handshaking all round - very friendly warm people. The surrounding area is very pretty, meadows and trees, just up the road is Aachen, to the left is Vaals. The appartments are very clean and the staff very helpful with tourist info in your language - a fantastic weekend in a beautiful location. We will be returning.

  • Liked — It was absolutely spotless and the description on their own web page was accurate.
  • Disliked — Leaving it after 4 days - should of stayed longer!
  • Tips/Secrets — Restaurant in town looked great but 37 euro menu - we like to cook in
