already when you arrive at the Hotel you can feel the Flair of the Emperor's times. the building itself is majestetic. when you walk up the stairs towards the Lobby you already feel Special.
Staff at reception is incredibly friendly and even if there are People waiting they are are really Patient. The same goes for the Restaurant staff - even though it was super busy at dinner as well as super-busy at breakfast they were amazingly Patient and friendly.
Food itself was great too - we booked halfboard and had 2 very nice dinners - each a 5-course dinner with set courses apart from the main, which you could Chose between three Options.
breakfast was buffet-style, where there was lots to Chose from.
the days we spent at the Club Vital, which is the spa-area of the Hotel. despite the Age of the Hotel, the spa area seems very modern, it is small but enough for a couple of days - Whirlpool, 2 Sauna, infrarot-cabin and a steam as well as a quiet-area.

all in all a very enjoyable stay and definitely something very Special.

Room Tip: VERY reccomendable is one of the two honeymoon suits.

Set in the ski resort of Semmering in the "good air" of the mountains near Vienna, this hotel overlooks on of the major ski runs. At the time of my visit in September there was no snow but the "The Magic Mountain" is clearly visible form the hotel which is set high up on the slops on the opposite side of the town. This a Grand very old fashion hotel with 113 rooms. The cafe in the hotel serves good food and, while the restaurant food is fairly expensive the menu looks varied. To stay at this hotel is not that expensive as a room for two persons is under 200 euros. There are weekend deals also. The hotel has an air of faded grandeur but.this adds to is charm. Well worth a visit just of coffee and cakes. While in the area look out for the railway line with its wonderful viaducts. Gossip has it that the hotel is due for a facelift as it has been recently bought by a Russian company. Lets hope the character of his beautiful building and its charm is not lost; but then perhaps the lifts will work! There is an exhibition which outlines the history of the hotel and pictures of the Kings and Queens and celebrities who have stayed there in the past, which is well worth a visit.

I stayed over a weekend back in 2008 with my wife and my 1 year old son.

The rooms are very big and comfortable and the bathroom is usually at the end of a long hallway. Being an old historic hotel the furniture is old but in good shape. The bed matrasses are very comfortable as well.

We had to order our meals in the room and this is how we found out that the service was very slow and almost for every meal we had to wait more than one hour. The restaurant staff is kind of limited and there was always a problem to find someone available to push the food cart few floors above. Otherwise the served food was exquisite, very tasty, in the right quantities and very artistically presented, so this was the sign of a real chef in the kitchen. The napkins were starched and pristine white.

It was a very pleasant stay and we enjoyed the beautiful view towards the valley below and the mountain opposing the hotel.

The price a little too high for the hotel quality, but you pay a premium to live for few days in a place with a history after all.

Room Tip: Of course always facing the front.

The Panhans is a gracious hotel from a bygone era. If it's good enough for Habsburgs it's good enough for me. It is set above a panoramic valley and is extremely peaceful and quiet (in Summer). Our room was huge. We enjoyed dinner with 4 great courses. Char grilled with peach and celery saute was superb as was the best (of the best) apple strudel. Superb views. Breakfast was served in the same room.

Our principal reason for visiting the area was to ride the railway. The roads around SEMMERING were extremely scenic with ability to stop and take pictures including the fabulous railway bridges. We did take the train from Gloggnitz for the experience but were somewhat disappointed as it is a regular modern train unlike other great rail journeys we have taken. We took this train as it was listed in our book - 500 Journeys Before You Die.

Traveled as a (mature age Australian) couple for seven weeks in Europe in July/August 2014 including four weeks of driving (mostly Austria and Italy - most accomodation 3 to 4 star hotels prebooked from Tripadvisor reviews to maximise sightseeing time each day). Despite the warnings in Tripadvisor forum we found driving easy on uncrowded roads and far more convenient and scenic than train travel. PROBLEMS we encountered on train from Budapest to Vienna...young last minute travellers block aisles and take all seats in restaurant, block toilet access...i am sure that older travellers would encounter baggage issues boarding and alighting...especially if they have suitcases suitable for an extended holiday as did we.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the view! Try to be in the main building (at the front).

I stayed last week at this hotel for business trip, and remained things in my mind are as follows;

-Large and comfortable rooms that have an amazing mountain view,
-Great breakfast,
-Swimming pool, spa center,(closed at 20:00)

I can imagine how great it might be in winter season.

Room Tip: Front rooms have an amazing mountain view
