“Classic & traditional”
Reviewed January 31, 2012

Indeed a 5-star classic alpenstyle hotel, but also quite so traditional. We are pretty young-minded, and found the Zürserhof maybe a little out of our league in terms of atmosphere etc. The service was excellent, rooms OK but nothing more than expected. The hotel appeared a bit too formal for our likings, this being a typical sport hotel. Since we didn´t bring blazers or ties for our ski vacation, we felt being stared at during dinner - where families and elders surely had dressed up properly. The rooms were extremely over-heated, probably 35 C, which we asked them to fix, but neither of our rooms were adjusted during our short stay. So, slept with windows open in -20 to be able to breathe. My single room had a pretty old bathroom, but had a good bed. Location is excellent with ski-in-out, and a heated garage for you car.

Have been coming to the Zürserhof twice a season for the past 20 years. Unequaled anywhere in the skiing world for overall excellence of quality in every sense of the word. From the owner family to every single member of the staff you are pampered and taken care of with friendly and impeccable attention. You are as much a friend as a guest and a large percentage of the guests are long term fans. It is always a joy to find each other again year after year for perfect ski out - ski in as well as wonderful spa facilities to ease the delicious food. In simple terms " a unique, superlative , perfect hotel.

A wonderfully run family hotel on the slopes in Zurs, Austria. Excellent service, great value and a fantastic location,...what else is there?

We have just returned from a 4 night stay in the Hotel Zuerserhof and it is undoubtedly one of the best hotels that we have had the pleasure at staying at.

Our job is to sell ski holidays for Ski In Luxury and we recently added this hotel to our listings and were invited to visit to see what the hotel had to offer. I was blown away by the quality of food, service and hotel facilities! Beautiful breakfast buffet to start the very indulgent day off. We then skied until around 1:30 as the spring weather was shining through and the condition of the slopes was getting a bit choppy in the afternoon. We headed back to the sun terrace at the hotel for a four course lunch including an awesome salad/meat buffet to start, followed by a soup and then a choice of main courses and also of puddings. A few hours then to relax a little on the terrace loungers and soak up some much needed sunshine before then heading to the spa area for a swim, hot tub, sauna, and steam! We then prepared ourselves for our next gastro experience in the restaurant for the evening! A different theme each night and some beautifully presented and unbelievably tasty meals along with the largest cheese board buffet ever seen! For cheese lovers, there must have been over 50 different types of cheese to pick from! Definitely worth starving yourself for a few weeks before heading to the Zuerserhof as packing on a number of pounds is inevitable!!

Some good skiing in Lech and Zurs, although not too many lenghty runs so it did mean hopping on and off a number of lifts and therefore there was no fluidity to the skiing. Still, a stunningly picturesque area to visit and well worth the trip!

I would recommend Zuerserhof to anyone wanting a true skiers holiday with an exceptional dining experience, and those looking for a relaxing time in the mountains. There is very little by the way of nightlife in the resort so if you're looking for some serious apres-ski then head down the road to St Anton instead!!

Truly magnificent! We celebrated our 10th Wedding anniversary at the Zurserhof and enjoyed it tremendously. The buffet breakfast was excellent, as was three course lunch....dinner was on a completely different level - awesome! All in all probably the best Ski hotel in Europe.

We (two families, each with a teen) have spent our ski vacations in this hotel for the last five years. The location of Zuerserhof for skiing is perfect: You can ski in and ski out and this in one of the best ski areas I am aware of. You are able not only to ski in Zuers and Lech but also in St. Anton (a bus ride of ten minutes away with the same ski ticket).
We usually had an junior suite as an accomodation. This is suitable for three persons but doesn’t always allow enough personal space for all of us because it is only one (not very large) room with a double bed and a sofa bed with some sort of a corridor where you can store your belongings and where you can also find a built in desk. Behind it there is a large bathroom and a separate (second) toilet. Once we asked about two superior double rooms for the adults and a regular double room for the kids but as the hotel doesn’t dispose of somewhat more simple (and cheaper) rooms for the kids this would have meant much more costs. Hence Zuerserhof only has rooms for guests who can afford to accomodate their children in fancy and expensive rooms! Yes, and this hotel is not suitable for travelers on a tight budget. Every year, prices are risen considerably although you have to admit that there usually are also a lot of renovations done. You pay a lot but you also get an equivalent value therefor. Looking at the food you are normally here on a full board basis. Breakfast is good but not excellent but you really get a fantastic lunch! It consists of an antipasti buffet, a soup, a small main course (you have a choice of three items when I remember correctly) and a dessert (choice of two items). When the weather is good you can have lunch on the formidable terrace that’s really a nice touch and not to be missed! Whereas the food for lunch is rather Austrian styled the dinner offers fine cooking. You will be pampered with courses consisting of only the best ingredients. Lunch and dinner were always a highlight for us! Service is usually friendly and competent. Frankly I can’t find many drawbacks concerning Zuerserhof. One of my accompanying friends thinks that the owner (and manager) of this hotel which are often to be seen pay to much attention to certain patrons but I personally don’t mind. My only concern is that Zuerserhof may become too expensive (see my above mentioned comment).

Another visit to what I can only describe as one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The service was impeccable from the moment of arrival till we departed. They have recently redecorated many of the rooms as well as the public areas. You can only describe it as old world elegence. Good cross section of visitors from all over the world.
The food continues to be amazing. The Austrian "Farmer's Buffet" is not to be missed. I would like to see the lunch salad buffet a little more varied than is currently the case.

I do have a bone to pick with the lift company that operates the Lech/Zurs extensive lift system. I purchased a 4 day ticket and extremley poor weather hampered skiing. One day they closed the lifts due to high winds (1 lift was left open), one day the visibilty was so poor due to snow, fog and wind that they should have closed the mountain (I have been skiing for 25 years!).
With the advent of tickets embeded with chips the process of refunds etc should be simple. They were unhelpful and almost downright rude.

The upshot is that I will never buy a multiple day ticket again. It is a small point but money is money in these uncertain times. I will not let this cloud my view of the Zurserhof as they have no control over the lift company. I must say in defence of the region that after 10 visits this was the worst weather that I have experienced, it was unfortunate that my time was limited and that weather played a part.
