We researched the hotel before our skiing trip at the end of March 2012 and can only reiterate what others say about the hotel. It is truly family run with everyone 'hands on' in making the guests happy and comfortable. Very informal and light hearted and guests made to feel very welcome. The rooms are smallish and quite basic but warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The dining area is cosy with Tyrolean decor and lots of warm wood everywhere. Fantastic atmosphere and wonderful home cooking way above restaurant standard. Well done and thank you Anna & Rosie! Thanks also to Steve for all his advice and to Hans for keeping us topped up with drinks.
The wellness room too is beautiful with steam room and sauna and comfortable relaxing loungers to cool down afterwards and take in the views of the surrounding mountains.
Soll itself is much smaller than we thought and at the end of March very quiet especially at night but as the hotel was so inviting it was preferable to stay in anyway.
The ski bus stops directly outside the hotel and there are a couple of pickups in the morning and returns at night. The hotel has a storage area for skis and boots but we left ours each night at the ski shop just next to the Gondola. We thought this really worthwhile at 2 euros a day and it meant not having to 'lug' the gear backwards and forwards. Especially useful if you want a later start or earlier finish to the skiing when the buses are not running. That way you can walk back to the hotel in about 15 mins or stop for a drink somewhere.
With regard to skiing , as early and somewhat nervous intermediates Soll turned out not to be the best choice for us, as there were only a few blue runs directly from the Gondola with the majority of others only reachable via at least a stretch of red. (In Austria there are no green runs - just Blue, Red and Black) We took a taxi to Scheffau a short distance away for 12 euros and this was much better for our level of intermediate skiing with lots of blues.
We hired our skis and boots from 'Fun and Snow' in the village and found the staff extremely helpful. The tour operators will arrange this for you but we did it ourselves online at a 20% discount and also avoided a credit card charge fee which the tour operators levy. Don't worry if you are unsure of boot size as regardless of what size you say you are they will measure your feet to make sure.
If you fancy a day free of skiing as we did there are several lovely valley walks in beautiful countryside.
Would highly recommend the hotel and would certainly return there as my first choice if visiting Soll again.

We stayed in the Gaensleit for a week at the end of Jan 2012. The hotel was very nice and we were all greeted (dispite being quite late) with a very warm welcome.

The room we were sold by the tour operator should have only been for two adults and two children on pul out beds, we were 4 adults. Credit it to the hotel for sorting us out and letting us continue enjoying our holiday. The room was clean and more roomy than most rooms I have stayed in snowboarding. The main part town is about a 10 min walk up the road.

The food served during the week was great. Some of our group thought the portions were smaller that they would have liked but they were perfect for me.

The only very minor bad point was the walk to the lifts, its not that far at about 20 mins and there is a bus but this is often full in the mornings.

We stayed here in march 2012 and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel part of the gansleit family.
After damaging my knee on the first days skiing, i thought my skiing was over. Steve, the owner, lent me his own knee brace to keep me going and went out of his way to help.
Would definitely stay here again in the future.

We have just come back from a week's skiing in Soll, and I cannot say enough nice things about our hotel.

From checking in to checking out the family made everyone feel so welcome, and compared with some of the apartments we've stayed in in french resorts the hotel was heaven!

The room was lovely, clean and well appointed, the beds were soooo comfortable, and little things like the Tv and safety deposit box were included rater than charged as extras.

I've seen some reviews of this hotel that complain about things like location and food portion sizes, and I really don't know what they are talking about. The hotel is perhaps a 10 minute walk from the main gondola, but the ski bus picks up from outside the front door, or you can leave your skis and boots at the ski hire garage and use the walk each morning as your warm up. As for the comments about food portions - say what?? The food was excellent and more than ample in quantity - definitely try the ribs while you stay here.

Danke Schon, Hotel Gaensleit - we had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend to anyone thinking about holidaying in Soll.

We had read so many good reports on this hotel, we were really looking forward to our holiday. We were not dissappointed. A great welcome when you arrive. The hotel is well located, approx 1/4 mile from Soll centre, so easy walking distance, but far enough out not to be disturbed by the 'night owls'. We had heard that the hotel was really friendly, and it certainly was. The Woods family really know how to make you feel welcome. Strangely enough, this seems to rub off on the guests as well, as we have never made so many firends while away on holiday. Steve's guided ski trips were great and really brought on our skiing. The ski bus stops outside the hotel and if conditions are right, you can ski back to the hotel at night, We stayed in the annexe across the road, the rooms were warm, bright and clean. Would we go back? You bet we would. We have done many skiing holidays, although this was our first time in Soll, but I can honestly say it was the best ski hol we have ever had.
I really don't know what anybody can find to compalin about with the Gansleit. It's a 3 star hotel and in my opinion it is borderline 4 star (using Crystal ski ratings). I think if it had a swimming pool it would get the Crystal 4 stars. But as a 3 star, it is right there at the top. We loved it and we loved Soll. The bars are good, the beer is the cheapest we have found in Austria and the ski area is large enough to keep you going all week. Roll on next winter!

Room Tip: Don't be put off by an annexe room.

We just love it here. We came here on one of those Thomson holidays where you don't know where you are staying, that was in 2000 and we've stayed here every year since more than once a year!!! Great food and accommodation and all of the family woods are so committed to you having a wonderful stay every time. Don't let anyone tell you the skiing here is limited because it isn't there has been massive investment in the lift infrastructure and snow making machines. I have skied most of Europe and this ranks with the best of them. Mountain restaurants cater for all kinds and it's cheaper than France. Theres very rarely lift queues and the snow is always excellent. All in all top value and a lovely place
