Reviewed September 22, 2013

For those with a short attention span it’s centrally located, spotlessly clean with excellent food, swimming pool, wellness area and nice staff.

Booked late with Crystal flying Manchester to Salzburg (11th September) with a coach transfer to Soll. Dropped at the hotel where we were met at reception and usual (for Tyrol) guest cards were filled out and our ‘Kaiser express’ bus pass was issued. (Free bus travel between Soll, Scheffau, Ellmau, Going and Hintersteiner See).

Room 103 first floor overlooking terrace area and pedestrian area (only pedestrianised if there is an event on-otherwise traffic does use the road). We had a large balcony with a table and 2 chairs. Fold out airer on balcony was a handy addition.

Room looked to have been recently refurbished and was immaculate. Bi-fold wardrobes with lots of hangers, shelving and electronic safe within (no extra charge). Large dressing type table with table lamp and 32” LCD TV. Large mirror in hallway, coat hooks. 2 double beds pushed together with room to move apart. 2 armchairs and a table. Lots of plug points.

Bathroom, fully tiled with walk in shower with adjustable shower attachment on riser rail and fixed ceiling rose. Vanity unit, large illuminated mirror and adjustable vanity mirror. Wired in hair dryer and electrical socket for shaver/toothbrush. Separate W.C.

New wellness area (Austrian rules-no swim wear in this area-you could always wear a towel if it bothers you I suppose) had steam room, bio sauna, infra red cabin and Finnish sauna with relaxing area. No extra charge for the wellness area and you could request a robe at reception. Slippers to use in this area were available at euro 3/pr. Outdoor (heated) swimming pool.

Breakfast served between 07.30-10.00 with the usual selection of continental type hams and cheeses. Very good toasting machine. Coffee brought to table and you made your own tea from a large selection of teas. Large tea cups! Lots of fresh fruit and scrambled egg/hard boiled eggs each day with bacon and sausage on alternate days.

Dinner. Again as is the usual in Austria dinner is chosen from a selection of 4 (1 vegetarian) options at breakfast time. We also had a choice from 2 soups and 2 deserts chosen at the dinner table. Excellent salad bar (help yourself) which changed most days. Help yourself to baguette and bread. The food in general was of an excellent standard and nicely presented. One evening there is a farmers buffet with regionl dishes and as always it is presented with pride and you are served by the chef’s themselves.

Drinks. Water available at table, just fill a jug yourself and not really any pressure to buy a drink but they were all fairly priced. Dunkel (dark beer) 500ml Euro 3.60, beer or radler 3.20, house wine 2.50. All added to your room if you wanted.

Free cake. Available 15.00-16.00 daily, we didn’t get back that often but de did have a couple of pieces. Coffee was Euro 2.30 but you didn’t have to buy a drink if you didn’t want one.

Lots of walking with usual yellow finger boards and Austrian flag markers on rights of way. We bought and used a mayr 451, 1:25 000, XL edition which was laminated. 7 euro from the local spar shop. As we booked this holiday on a Monday and travelled Wednesday I didn’t get chance to research any walks but we managed some nice walks during the week and I would happily return to the area for more walks.

My only negative is the pedestrian area as mentioned above. It might be a problem if you are a light sleeper (didn't help that we slept with the door open as it was hot at night-but double glazing was excellent and did shut noise out) so it did get a little noisy with traffic and if traders were setting up stalls for the market(s) held on the road during some days of the week. It's not enough to stop me from returning though.

On the whole a 'nice' hotel but we have been to some great hotels in Austria-some at a far cheaper price and I was disappointed. Nothing really wrong but nothing to make your heart sing. Loved the traditional architecture but the renovations have given it a rather clinical and bland feeling. Food was ok-served efficiently and at a good temperature but yet again was bland and rather like convenience food consumed on a busy work day at home. One redeeming feature is the outdoor pool which is lovely after a hectic day skiing. Go quite late to avoid the package holiday feel. Have I been lucky in the past or are my expectations higher than other (mainly British) visitors to this hotel?

Dear Dougal63,

Servus from Austria and thank you for your Review on TA,
I am sorry to hear that you couldn't experience a "wow factor" with us during you recent stay.
Well, what can I say? If you are mentally not ready for a Holiday then I guess you won't have a wow factor nowhere.

About the Food- I can ensure you that all our dishes are freshly prepared and I am sorry to hear that it was good but not to your complete liking. We do have on average 130 People in our Hotel and to meet everyone’s demands gets really a challenge sometimes!
Thank you very much for pointing out our pool and I was very pleased to read that you really enjoyed it!
Dear Dougal63 we hope you will find the wow factor in your next holidays again

All the best

Florian

Returned on the 4th September after another fantastic week at the Hotel Postwirt Soll.
The food was excellent, plenty of choice at breakfast, a good choice for the evening meal plus a large salad bar and a selection of good cheeses to complete the meal. The cakes served in the afternoon were most enjoyable.
Our room was very spacious, with a large bathroom and separate toilet, the balcony overlooked the garden and pool and offered good views of the mountains The room and the facilities were excellent and serviced to a very high standard by very pleasant staff.
All the members of the reception /waiting staff were most polite and obliging, making the stay a memorable one.
We can not wait to return.

I have just returned from this marvellous hotel where I took a group of 47 people from Bexley Civic Society. The owners and staff made us so welcome, were so helpful from the time we arrived to the time we left. The bedrooms were spacious, meticulously clean and well appointed. We stayed on a half-board basis; the breakfasts choices were extensive both hot and cold; dinner was chosen from a menu at breakfast - all food was very good. The farmers buffet dinner was excellent with a starter that must have contained every type of Austrian food and you could have all three different meats on offer for the main course. The bar was well-stocked and had comfortable seating; there was much outside seating also. We had a great time and would thoroughly recommend to anybody organizing a group holiday or even as a personal stay.

My personal thanks go to the owners and all the staff for their attentiveness and kindness during our stay and for making our holiday in Soll a wonderful experience. Thank you.

Linda Hubbard - Bexley Civic Society, London.

I have never stayed in this hotel, but every year that we go to Söll we go in for a meal, usually lunchtime. I have to say that the food there is always good value and well cooked. Staff in the restaurant have always been very pleasant and talkative, even complimenting me on my limited German vocabulary. The Postwirt from what I can gather it is one of, if not the oldest building in Söll and supposedly where one of the treaties were signed during the second world war. A very historic building with some wonderful architectural features in its older part. Situated right in the centre of the village.

We found this hotel in a late deal and had a wonderful week at the end of May. The hotel is excellent, with very attentive and friendly staff. The breakfast buffet is a great start to the day. Evening meals with a very good a la carte menu. One evening meal was a wonderful Austrian buffet. Sol is a lovely little town in a beautiful valley. The free kaiserjet bus is a great way to get to different parts of the valley. The gondolas to the hill tops are wonderful and the views from the top of Hohe Salve are outstanding. Hope to return soon.

Can not think of anything to mark this hotel down for. Clean, spacious room, very comfortable bed, loads of wardrobe space which is necessary for people on outdoor activities like walking or skiing. Staff and management courteous and all speak excellent English ; the kitchen produces good meals from fresh produce and the dining room and bar area are both comfortable and well laid out. We were all provided with a pass to use the local bus service free of charge and this covered the neighbouring villages in the valley. My partner and I were on a walking holiday and Soll is a first class centre for this activity, mainly due to the bus service and access to lift stations, the latter of which there is a charge. There is also plenty of places to eat and drink at a reasonable cost, but if you want lively entertainment, neither the hotel nor the resort may suit during the summer season.

Room Tip: Never heard anyone at the hotel complaining about their room. We were on the third floor and had a...
