“Near Perfection”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

I was ready to write a Review following a near perfect week at the Postwirt, Soll when, on reading previous Reviews, I found that I would be repeating their remarks and observations. So, to be somewhat brief, I concur with what has been stated previously regarding limited a la carte menus for dinner (having to choose dinner at breakfast) For ourselves we enjoyed a la carte on only three occasions during our week. My only other gripe was having to purchase tea or coffee with the complimentary afternoon cake. A small indiscretion on the part of hotel management. However, a wonderful week at a near perfect hotel in the most beautiful area of the Austrian Tyrol. My wife and I intend to return later this year..............

Room Tip: Corner rooms have better views.

This hotel was in an excellent location in the centre of Soll and very close to the bus stop which took you to the main ski lift. The buses were regular and always on time and it was a very easy way to access the slopes. We didn't bother with the lift storage area recommended by the reps as you would need to get off the bus a stop early and you would then have a ten minute walk up hill with your skis. There is a further ski storage area under the lift but with the bus it was just as easy to keep these at the hotel (and free!).
At the beginning of the week you could ski back to where Soll starts although as the week went on and the snow melted you could not do so, but we were nearly at the end of the Season.
The hotel was lovely and has recently been decorated. Our room was really spacious (room 122) at the back of the hotel, and was lovely and peaceful with a large bathroom. The beds were really comfortable too.
The price included a four course evening meal which included a lot of traditional food. There was a starter/salad bar which had a good variety or starters. The second course was usually a clear soup which I am not too keen on but is common in Austria and there was always a choice of main courses and desserts. In the middle of the week we had a gala dinner which was superb and the best meal of the week. There was also a tap in the self service area were you could help yourself to ice code water. We certainly never went away hungry and did not feel the need to eat out in another restaurant, as we could try something different every night in the hotel.
Breakfasts were also really good with loads of hot and cold choices.
On thing we were not keen on was that we were very close to other tables on either side of us. We did feel a little cramped in and we could hear every word people were saying and it did make you feel that you could not have a relaxing conversation yourself.
Another slight niggle was the wifi - this really should be free in a 4 star hotel. However we paid for this but were not told that it was limited to once device which then could not be changed. We put it on to a phone to test it out and then had to pay again to put it on to the I pad as the hotel would not let us change it to another device and on this occasion the receptionist was rather abrupt with us. Again bearing in mind the amount we paid for our stay, this should be free.
There was very nice cosy bar in the hotel, and in the bar to the front of the hotel there was a group - the Frog and the Tyne - on one evening and that was really entertaining.
The staff overall were friendly and efficient without being too intrusive, especially in the restaurant.
Overall a brilliant holiday and we would return and if it hadn't been for the little niggles - wifi and seating in the restaurant they we would have given a five.

Room Tip: Try for a room at the back which may be a little quieter

Dear Sharon C, a warm servus from Austria and thank you for taking the time to write this detailed review on Trip Advisor and we were thrilled to read that you enjoyed your entire stay with us, let me just explain the wifi issue with you.

We are aware that a lot of places in the UK offer the wifi free of charge, however it is not common in Austria. Only since 2012 we are able to provide wifi to our hotel guests and since 2013 on all hotel guest floors including the rooms. Providing wifi these days is not a cakewalk as you could expect, in fact there are a lot of legal issues to solve before offering it to our hotel guests. And that brings a very clever fire wall system with it and that means very high costs.

Therefore we feel unable to provide it for free but for Euro 15,00 for one week for one device, however we are happy to offer now second devices for half the price (Euro 7,50). In fact if you take the Euro 15,00 option the cost for the hotel guest is Euro 2,14 a day (including 20 % tax).
In case you feel ripped off I can ensure you that the Euro 1,78 (without tax/per day) is a little less than the amount to cover the costs for actually providing it.
Dear Sharon C, please accept our apologies about the “little niggles” you experienced and we are looking forward welcoming you again to our hotel.

Best regards from Austria

I start this review with a declaration of independence, not employed by any hotel group and totally unbiased. With that situation clear any offers can be sent to me..........!!!!!! Our trip as usual started in Bristol with Austrian Airways, flying in a F70 to Innsbruck Kranebitten (LOWI) airport. The flight over and thru the Mountains was an inspiring start to the Holiday. An effortless transfer in a luxury coach followed by the most friendly and swift checkin at the Postwirt was great. Our room (105) was amazing with superb cleanliness and a level of comfort not often seen in a 4 star hotel. 50% of the wall was windows and balcony giving a view of the town and the surrounding mountains and a level of light which made the ambience. Our first two days in Soll were a full display of Austrian rainpower, uninterrupted and vertical with our urge to procure wood and nails with plans for an Ark belayed only by the Hotel facilities ie the saunas where the rule was "as born" and I have the fortune not to be inhibited having used them in Germany, Russia and other civilised counties like Finland. We also enjoyed the bar/restaurant frequented by the local people and where we met our holiday companions to be from Finland. The hotel breakfast was varied, plentiful and very much to our taste and was a different venue to the main Restaurant. Dinner was a joy with its a-la-carte menu on all but two nights which was not a problem. On offer was a starter salad which varied daily, followed by a choice of three soups followed by a choice of up to12 main courses with additional steak dishes at a small extra cost. A selection of sweets followed so tempting it was impossible to resist at the cost of a bulging waist. Drinks with a large selection of wines were paid for at the table or added to your room tab. The waiter service at your immaculate table was second to none, efficient and friendly with total attention to your requirements. This dinner experience in our view catered for all tastes and most nationalities (there were no blubber dishes for the occasional visiting Eskimos). All in all this hotel exceeded any expectations we had with exceptional service in all departments. There was evening entertainment and a traditional Tyrolean night for which tickets could be purchased. Soll is a wonderful resort surrounded by mountains providing many walking routes which will challenge the most experienced...in winter it is a premier ski resort. Musts are the cable car trip to Hexenwasser and Hohe Salve and a visit to the local Church. The weather did turn to sunshine after the first two days and we walked a total of 35km much up and down steep mountain paths. How to finish! The Postwirt is owned by the Family Bliem where all of the Staff feel they are part of the Family and this shows in the commitment they give to making it a total success for both the owners and guests. All of the services and facilities are first class. Our thanks for a wonderful time go to Inghams and local rep. Kev, Austrian Airlines, the Bliem family and Staff who made it so we could have stayed for much longer. Visit again? Definitely. Recommended. Yes to anyone who enjoys a value for money first class holiday.

Room Tip: Please do not choose room 105 if we are visiting this hotel

We visited Austria and stayed at the Hotel Postwirt first week in June just after the bad weather. We were welcomed from the off and had a large room with a balcony on the 3rd floor. The room and bathroom were modern, smart and spotless, cleaned every day. There was a smalll outside swimming pool with sunbathing area and an inside spa area with steam room and 3 sauna's. Two nice restaurants one for breakfast and another for the evening meal. Wi-fi was available at €30 for the week for two devices. The free Kaiser Jet bus made exploring the area very easy within the local valley.
The only letdown of a great stay was we had to choose our evening meal from a limited 4 meal selection at breakfast an couple of times in the week, as the resturaunt was booked for other functions. All food was good and well presented but I don't know what I want to eat for the evening at 8 in the morning. I would have have A la carte one night but had already ordered. Several regular visitors also complained.
We would still love to return and see the area in the snow and would stay at the Hotel Postwirt.
Thanks for a great time.

Dear Paul S,

a warm Servus from Austria and thank you for your Review on Trip Advisor. We were pleased to hear that you enjoyed your recent stay with us.

I would like to explain the evening meal situation. We do have regularly set meal evenings on Wednesdays and Saturdays as these days are our main arrival days and the a-la carte business is pretty strong as well and to avoid long waiting times for all of our guests we do provide a lovely set meal. And it is true on these days you would choose in the morning your evening meal from 4 different main courses as it is usual in the regions hotels.
Just ask us for a later decision and we certainly try our best to help you with this matter. Furthermore please let us know if you wish to have a different dish as offered and we are happy to help

We would also provide an a-la carte meal decision for our guests several times during the week as the only hotel in the region and we are very proud of it!
But we do ask for your understanding that in busy times we are unable to provide an a la carte decision to avoid the very long waiting times.

Dear Paul S, once again thank you for your review and we would be are looking forward welcoming you again to our hotel,

best regards from sunny Austria

My wife and I have just returned from a Week at the Postwirt Hotel. We arrived right at the end of the really bad weather that was all over Europe...so we had a couple of days of rain which affected the use of the pool / spa area due to minor flooding. Nevertheless the thing that I found
about this Hotel is the real peace and quiet,When we arrived we opened the balcony doors and
just sat there listnening to the birds song...it was bliss.
STAFF....Superb, very friendly and welcoming nothing was to much trouble and the Inghams rep "KEV" was probably one of the best we have had with any firm.
FOOD....What can I say about that ,except absolutely wonderful, a,la,cart menu every night
so the only thing you put on your plate yourself was the salad. Everything was freshly cooked
so you had a reasonable wait between courses ,not whipping the plates away and plonking the next one down....every evening meal was something to savor and enjoy.I can reccomend the
Fillet steak and Pork skewer...in fact I can reccomend everything on the menu.
Breakfast was typically european with a good choice of cold meats / cheese etc and a choice from the hot menu was bacon ,boled eggs or scrambled egg or occasionaly sausage, juices
Tea coffee the usual fare.along with cerials fruit etc Tea and Coffee so you wouldnt starve
DRINKS....This is probably a slight fly in the ointment so to speak...If you order a large beer
you will get 0.4 of a litre for around 3.20 eur....a small beer is 0.3 ltr. If you go 10 yards over the road to "Harrys Bar" for 3.70 you get a litre but the rest of the drinks are on a par with the UK,
and the beer is brewed about 20mls up the valley in St Johann
ROOMS....Very spacious and comfortable especially the beds, the only things missing in my
opinion were a fridge (even a small one) and a bath, as there are showers only, but this
is the norm for europe (except UK ) and possible air conditioning as it get very warm at night
in the summer.(we had our windows open )
PUBLIC AREAS......We found the lounge area to be not that comfortable chairs were hard backed and hard seats..not the place where you felt you could relax and "lounge" and on occasion we had a French group eating their evening meal there instead of the dining room
which meant there was very little room to sit in there after dinner anyway.Dining room was very
well laid out clean, and comfortable.and excellent service There was a Tyrolean night held there
on one night in the "bar "area of the Hotel there are long tables and "booths"and certainly worth
the 9.50 eur we paid.
POOL / SPA......Although the pool is not large it is heated and quite relaxing after a walk over
the mountains...a reminder also that the Sauna / Steam room are naked areas, no exceptions.
AREA............Stunningly beautiful ,with the gondolas up the top of the mountains a pleasant
15 mnt stroll away with the types of views you want to wrap up and take home with you.
Also a Supermarket 5 mnts around the corner. ( handy for sandwiches and beer )

FINALLY....Would I reccomend this hotel? absolutely, would we go back? in a heartbeat

Room Tip: 3rd floor any of the numbers 302-312 fantastic view up the valley and very quiet
