We have just spent a wonderful week’s skiing holiday at the Postwirt Hotel in Soll. We booked this holiday based on a personal recommendation - from a family who have been going on skiing holidays to the Postwirt for the last five years. We were not disappointed - in fact after fifteen years of skiing holidays together, this is the best skiing holiday we have ever had.

We are now looking forward to going back next year as we can't imagine going anywhere else now for our skiing holiday experience. The whole atmosphere in the hotel was extremely relaxing and very welcoming. The food was really excellent - the breakfast was the best we have ever had on a skiing holiday and the evening meals were equally impressive - with a starter from the excellent salad bar, a soup, a choice of four main courses, a desert and then a great selection from the cheese board. The staff were extremely helpful and we would like to personally thank Suzanna who looked after us during our stay in the restaurant!

The hotel has a lovely spa and is an ideal way to spend a couple of hours after finishing on the slopes. The heated outdoor pool was wonderful - it had very warm water and seating areas where you can sit and gaze out at the mountains - wow! We then followed this up by a visit to the infra red sauna and the steam room. There are two other saunas to use as well. The hotel provides free bath robes for the week and there are an abundance of soft towels in the spa for your use whilst in there.

The hotel is centrally located in Soll and is perfect for the bus stop outside. We chose to walk to the main gondola each morning - it is about a 10 minute walk and slightly uphill, but a good way to wake you up in the morning. We stored out skis and boots at the Gondola (Edinger) and we would recommend this so there is only a very short walk at the end of the day to the storage area.

We would also definitely recommend a visit to the Iglu Bar when skiing. It is a great experience and you can take some great photos inside of the ice bar, ice tables and sitting areas etc.... then drink a very tasty Gluhwein :-)

A big thank you to all the staff at the Postwirst for a fantastic holiday, including ‘Emma’ the gorgeous black Labrador who owns the Postwirt and allowed us to make a fuss of her on most days :-) See you all next year.

Just returned from a fantastic stay at the Hotel Postwirt in Soll. I can only agree with many of the glowing comments already said about this Hotel. Everything about the Hotel really is fantastic.

From the moment you arrive until you finally have to leave, you really do have a great experience. The staff are all very helpful and obliging, and always greet you with a smile.

The rooms are lovely and comfortable, and also nice and warm. The food we found to be absolutely fantastic and is served as though it has been prepared in a top restaurant. I can only i don't know how some people can say the portions are small. OK you don't get huge portions, but you do get a fantastic 3 course meal, plus a salad buffet to start and a good selection of Cheeses to finish off with if you can indeed find room for it.

The Ski bus stop is right outside the Hotel, and it is only a 5 minute ride to the slopes. We kept our skis and boots in the secure hotel ski room. This suited us fine, but some people did use the ski garage at the slopes which I believe costs about 8 euro for the week. This is great if you like to walk to the slopes which are a nice 10 minute stroll away.

I can only hope we are lucky enough to stay at the Postwirt next year, as this would be my first choice over any Hotel we have stayed in Austria.

Many Thanks to the Hotel management and staff at the Postwirt for a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: We stayed in the old part as all the new rooms were taken. These are lovely and quite large. The new...

Although not staying at the Postwirt during our skiing holiday we did choose to eat here for one evening. Our chalet hosts recommended it for our meal during their night off and we both loved it. We were not disappointed and wished we could come back but sadly it was the end of our holiday. The staff were very attentive and welcoming and anything we asked they were very happy to help. The restaurant was not too busy (but we did eat quite early) and it had a great atmosphere. The food was fantastic, we could not fault it. If only we had room for desert! The food was very reasonably prices for the standard and quality. The only thing I would say is be mindful that if you would like a fondue the menu states that this requires a pre-booking, otherwise the menu has a great range of starters and mains to choose from. You will not be disappointed. After eating here early evening we then recommended it to another couple staying in the same chalet as us and they came back saying they had the same positive experience which we had had. Would definitely recommend this Hotel for a meal (we cannot comment on the hotel itself as we were not staying here) so thank you for an enjoyable evening.

We stayed at the Postwirt last week as a group of five.. and wow just sums it up...

Location: excellent, centre of Soll, near all other amenities for day and night.. ten min walk to the ski lift each morning...

Service/Atmosphere: We had read reviews on here before traveling about being family run etc but wow the crew here are great fun! Dex is the main man and ensures that you're every need is catered for...we just didn't want to leave. Each and every member of staff made you feel so welcome and part of the family..

Food: I must admit I was nervous going half board but wow what good food.. lots and lots of selections... different selections and choices at breakfast buffet and main course each day. there was no shortage of anything a credit to the hotel. There was no stress or frustration caused, there was something for everyone to eat at all time.. It is a credit to the hotel that we ate in the hotel every night of our stay bar one, where we ventured out to a local restaurant that had come highly recommended to us before our travels.

I could not recommend this hotel more, we were a mixed group of old and new skiers, those new to the adventure were delighted those from old were seriously impressed having been else where skiing in Europe. A credit to all involved. Cannot wait to come back

Our second stay in the Postwirt and can't recommend it highly enough.

The hotel has seen some major refurbishment in 2012, and has been extended to provide additional rooms with Balconies and refurbished leisure suite.

we booked a fabulous room with balcony and view of the mountains, which included Ski Passes, Breakfast and Dinner.

Food was excellent as was the Skiing for the firs few days....unfortunately I caught Flu (probablly from the flight to Austria) and was confined to bed for a couple of days, not ideal!

The hotel staff were marvelous in particular Suzzanne, who arranged for my breakfast and evening meal to be sent to the room... even though taking meals in room is not normally a hotel policy.

My partner managed to salvage a few days skiing with some of the other hotel guests, who were very friendly.

There's great entertainment in the public bar, though be prepared for the fact that smoking still takes place in most public bars in Austria.... the hotel itself is non smoking.

We will definitely be back to Soll and will stay in the Postwirt

We stayed at the Postwirt in Jan 2013, group of 4 friends, booked through Crystal. The hotel is in a fantastic location, right in the centre of the village, only 10 mins walk to ski lift. We left our ski stuff at the lift as it was much handier than walking up and down in our ski boots.

Food:
Breakfast was good, a great selection of cereals, breads, fruit etc, though the hot selection was limited - only boiled/scrambled egg, and bacon/sausages on alternate days. The latter I did not like, but I was happy enough with scrambled egg on toast.

Afternoon snack:
We only got this 2 or 3 times as most days we skiied til 4 or 5, but when we did partake, it went down a treat.

Evening meal:
Good selection of meals throughout the week, most were lovely, few surprises along the way but all in all, the boys did not leave the table hungry (not a mean feat as all 3 are complete starvos!!)

Bar:
Lovely quiet bar, excellent service and a good selection of beers - they had Magners!! so I was very happy.

Rooms:
Good sized rooms, we also had a balcony overlooking the front of the hotel - no issue with noise as had been noted in other reviews, and we did have the window open one or two nights because of the heat, so we must have been heavy sleepers.

Facilities:
We did use the swimming pool & steam rooms. I appreciate that being outdoors, the pool would not be roasting, but this was the one aspect of the hotel were I was disappointed - it was slightly warmer than cold, lukewarm at best, and we did try it at different times throughout the week to check if it improved but unfortunately not. Sauna and steam rooms were great, beware of the naked users though...nothing against it at all but we were not expecting it and if just surprised us.

Skiing:
Probably the best ski area I've been to in Europe - for the intermediate to advanced skiier. Beginners would be better suited to Scheffau, although we only skiied the top of this area, from the map, it looked to have many more blue runs than Soll. It did not snow until Wed/Thurs of our stay, but you wouldnt really have noticed slightly higher up the mountain anyway.
We would have loved to try the night skiing, but we didnt realise the ski shop closed at 6 and so our stuff was locked in - raging!!

Village:
Quaint little area, good selection of bars/restaurants to try out. We ate in Whiskey Muhle upstairs - great, varied selection, not expensive, and also Bella Vita, we ate here twice in fact, the best steak we have ever tasted, and again not expensive. Think it was around €160 for four of us, for a 3 course meal & sides, plus drinks.
Variety of entertainment available throughout the week in most bars, the only downside was the smoking still allowed in most bars.

Overall:
We all loved it, not the expensive trip everyone told it would be, I think I spent about €200 the whole week, great skiing area, if I could get a direct flight from Belfast to Salzberg, I be back in the morning. I told my boss about it, and he took his two sons out over midterm, Postwirt was fully booked but they got right over to Ellmau and absolutely loved it too.

Room Tip: We were on top floor, with a balcony overlooking front of hotel - did not notice any real noise the...

Dear "Illuvmyweekendbreaks",
servus from Austria.

thank you very much for taking the time and writing this detailed and positive review.
Your recommendation to your boss is one of the nicest compliments to get.

We "run" our sauna under Austrian sauna rules which is to be naked in the sauna
and steam bath. It might be surprising for you as you are used to Irish/English rules.

At this point we would like to take the possibility and appologize for the swimming pool. As
you mentioned in your review the water temperature was not right. The week you were
staying in the hotel we had a problem with the heating system and could not hold
the water temperature. Although technicians and specialists were contacted immediately it was hard for
them to find the default, due to the building works done in autumn (refurbishment and additional rooms)
So, we would like to appologize that we could not solve the problem during your stay,
despite all the care taken.

But we can assure you that now everything is fixed again and we can now keep a water
temperature of 33° degrees.

We are looking forward welcoming you again at hotel Postwirt and our warm pool.

Best regards
family Bliem and
team

We spent a week in Soll In February 2013, skiing as a family. Our family room was enormous, much larger than we'd hoped for. Very clean, lots of space for all our (vast amounts of!) kit. Housekeeping was great, managing to make it all feel clean and orderly on our return each day.Brilliantly cosy and warm, you'd never have believed it was so cold outside.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, their impeccable English put our ropey German to shame. Particular mention needs to be made of the Barman and the ladies at reception - they were lovely.

The food was good, varied and plentiful. The salad buffet deserves a special mention - it was amazing! Breakfast was equally good, the usual continental spread, with lots of options, as well as cooked items - eggs, sausage etc.

All in all, we couldn't fault the Postwirt, the best family holiday ever, according to the children (whose favourite thing was the pool!) I can't think of a thing that could have been improved upon.
