It will be hard to find anything to criticise with Hotel Alpin, our stay there was great from start to finish. We had travelled with Thomson Lakes and stayed for 10 nights. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff throughout our visit and no sooner did we finish a drink than it was refreshed for us. Our room was at the front of the hotel and was large and airy, basic maybe but very clean and comfortable. Noise limits after 10p.m. very much appreciated and we slept well. The food was delicious , perhaps there could have been more choice at lunch instead of being the night before's leftovers but to be honest didn't mind revisiting the lovely food anyway! Quality of the meat (smoked in the hotel's own small smokehouse) served was just superb. Loved visiting the rabbits, goats and chickens each day. Ate in the pizzeria one evening and husband commented that it was the best pizza he had ever eaten. We intend to return next year with our children and their partners.

We stayed in a family room in the annex side of the hotel. Decor quite basic but clean, wetroom nicely done. Large double doored balcony and comfy bed mattresses in all beds. Travelled with our 2 children ages 6 and 9 and their grandparents who had a double room over in the other part of the hotel, which gave a good comparison between rooms standards. Main hotel bedrooms a little nicer. Swimming pool was ok with a few loungers doted around in the outside decking area. All inclusive was not as good as where we stayed in Austria last year as not as much choice at breakfast and packed lunch choices were what there was at breakfast so no cartons of juice or chocolate bars available. Came back to hotel 3 days for lunch which was lovely each day, in some respects nicer than the night time dinner with curry/pasta, salad bar and potato choice. Ice cream buffet was open then too but not very hygienic as flavours were being mixed together with just 1 ice cream scoop to use in a jug of milky water yuk! Son wouldn't touch it after first day due to that fact. Afternnon teas again excellent good cake choices. Dinners were good choices unless you have young children as most dishes were adult based. There are NO early kids meals as was advertised in Thomson brochures either. Drinks were nice enough, good selection of soft and beer/wine but only schnapps for spirits. Good wifi throughout hotel. Kids play area basic and no trampoline to be seen brochure again wrong. Staff work very hard and frequently asked if drinks needed refilled. Not the nicest hotel we have stayed in the Tyrol but for the all inclusive package good value for the price.

Just spent two weeks at the hotel. Hotel generally good. Food good quality and reasonable selection. Only complaint is on check out we were charged for drinks that we did not have there was no proof of having signed for them or time on the receipt, (also receipt clearly shows different room number) but were forced to pay for them. Cannot recommend the hotel on this basis, will not return.

This is the fourth time we have stayed at this hotel and we wouldn't stay anywhere else in this region. We came here in March 2014 and had a great week as usual. Our room was just right for us and the food was its usual fabulous standard.
Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, we booked independently instead of a package and the hotel arranged transport to and from the airport and ski passes for us. They were great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone who wanted to have a relaxing break.
The only downside was trying to get drinks in the evening, not an easy task when most of the staff are busy, it would be better if someone managed to appear in the foyer (dining room one) to check people are served occasionally. That however is the only fault I can honestly make, not a huge one but enough to irritate when this goes on night after night.

Room Tip: If it's possible try to get a room with a mountain view and balcony.

2014 is the eighth consecutive year of visiting the Hotel Alpin for a ski-ing holiday. This year the group stayed in the brand new Penthouse Apartment which was formerly the owners' private residence.

No pictures or description could have prepared us for the sheer luxury and scale of the accommodation. We wondered round completely awestruck, not believing this stunning apartment was ours for the week. The apartment is set on two levels, with a wide wrap-around balcony to two sides. On level one there are two double bedrooms (one with a spiral staircase to a further double bed at mezzanine level), each with a luxury ensuite bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and dining room, with beautiful alpine views and a huge double height living room, again with far reaching views and a open log fire at its heart. Wide stairs lead to level two, tucked picturesquely right under the eaves, where there is an enormous master bedroom with separate dressing room, an incredible tandem bathroom and a second small, pretty bedroom with a small double bed. The tandem bathroom serves both rooms, with a sliding door between the two halves for privacy.

Elegant lighting, loads of storage, a guest cloakroom, free wi fi and underfloor heating are just a few of the thoughtful touches that ensure a completely comfortable stay. The icing on the cake? Our own private sauna, a daily maid services and huge piles of logs delivered before we needed them. It is going to be incredibly difficult to leave this wonderful apartment at the end of the week.

What would make it even better? A kettle in the kitchen please! That's all.

I stayed at the Hotel Alpin for one week in late January. I was part of a family group of 15 (8 adults and 7 children), we really enjoyed our stay at the Alpin. The Village of Scheffau is beautiful and it is a very short bus ride to the Scheffau Gondola station, the ski bus stop is just across the road from the hotel. Scheffau is linked into the larget ski area in Austria, we had great skiing and snow as it snowed non-stop for the first two days of our trip. The staff at the hotel were friendly and very welcoming and the food at breakfast and dinner was excellent. There was always an excellent choice of food on offer and everything was very nicely cooked and to a very high standard. The all-inclusive beer and wines between 6pm and 9pm were great also and there is afternoon tea included which is served from 3.30pm to 5.00pm. I was not very happy with my room however, it was a tiny single room with a tiny single bed. The mattress on the bed was very uncomfortable with very little support and there was very little storage space in the room - but these tiny single rooms seem to be common-place in Austrian ski hotels and I knew this when I was booking my holiday at the Scheffau. All in all though - I would highly recommend Scheffau and the Hotel Alpin for a ski holiday but I would try to avoid the tiny single room if at all possible!!.

Room Tip: Avoid the tiny single rooms if possible!
