Hotel Fischer

We'd been to Sankt Johann many years ago and stayed at the excellent Hotel Crystal, we couldn't book the rooms we wanted there (party of 7) so booked at the Fischer instead and boy are we glad we did. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome by Michael the owner. Our rooms were on the first floor and were both spacious, well appointed and spotlessly clean.

The evening meals are typical Austrian, with a choice of salad or soup to start, a choice of three main courses and pudding to finish. Children could eat from the adult menu or the extensive children's menu (nuggets, fish fingers, pizza, pasta etc - even steak and schnitzel). Our meals came with free drinks (part of the package deal we booked) and were free flowing throughout the meal (up until dessert was served), with plenty of choices. The food was most definitely home cooked with a wide variety of very enjoyable dishes. There wasn't anything that any of us didn't like ! On top of the usual meals, we were treated to a mountain breakfast one morning (a 30 minute walk up the mountain for a full breakfast with spectacular views. My retired parents (and others) opted for the free taxi ride instead of the walk which was a nice touch. We also had a farmers buffet one evening and a BBQ at the sister hotel Park - both of which were excellent.

Another plus for the hotel is the excellent central location - literally 1-2 minutes walk from the town square, where we were treated to live entertainment on a couple of evenings (the Abba tribute band packed the square out with a really friendly atmosphere). It's 10 minutes from the Panorama Badwelt (indoor and outdoor pool complex) which is free to enter with the guest card you get from the hotel (for free) - our children spent quite some time here ! The hotel is about 15 minutes from the main cable car station which is also well worth a visit. Half way up the mountain is Horn Park a high wire adventure park (similar to Go Ape) with the addition of flying fox zip wires across the lake. Our children (8, 10 and 12) had a blast, as did their parents !

Nothing is very far away in this charming resort, and if you want to travel further afield, you can hire bikes from the hotel or for the less energetic e-bikes from the sister hotel Park. For those with families, we can recommend the ride to Going and the man-made lake outdoor swimming complex - another great day out.

To sum up, a charming hotel serving excellent food, with friendly staff, clean well appointed rooms in an excellent central location.

Room Tip: Room 112 is directly above the entrance and is a nice size family room, with a lovely indoor balcony...

I am here just finishing a weeks holiday in the Hotel Fischer. Lovely friendly staff always helpful. The food is well above average. With a free packed lunch and free drinks with the evening meal. Lots of lovely touches like breakfast up the mountain, chefs special buffet last night , and tonight a barbecue at a sister hotel.

We have just returned from the Hotel Fischer having had the most wonderful 10 day holiday there. The staff are so friendly and helpful and can not do enough for you. The food was great and the rooms very comfortable. The location could not be better if you want to explore by foot or bike. We ran out of days to do everything we wanted to do. Thank you to all of the staff. We hope to see you again soon

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms over the kitchen. Can be hot and noisy

I have just returned from a week at the Hotel Fischer. As I entered my room I was immediately impressed by the standard of cleanliness and attention to detail. The bathroom was spotless. As others have noted, the hotel staff were efficient and friendly, nothing was too much trouble and they made my stay a very pleasurable one. The hotel is in a very central location, close to cafes, ice cream parlours and shops, while just a few minutes' walk to the bus and train stations and the gondola. Although there are plenty of walks in and around St Johann, it is also ideally situated to explore further afield.
The breakfast included bacon, eggs, yoghurt, fruit, ham, cheese and a lovely array of fresh, home-made bread and rolls, with a good selection of jams, honey, chocolate spread and pate. There was a selection of fruit juices, tea and coffee. Perhaps all typical of a Continental breakfast, but much better than many others I have sampled. The packed lunch was simple but, again, good quality food, and the evening meals were varied and tasty. The soups were delicious!
The dining room was very warm (we were there in a heatwave) so a fan or two would have been welcome, but thankfully clear of smoke, unlike other restaurants and cafes we sampled whilst out and about.

Our second holiday in this lovely, friendly hotel. Had such a good stay last year just had to return for another visit. Everything just as good as last year. Service was fantastic and returning was like visiting old friends. As all the reviews say nothing is too much trouble and it really does feel like home from home.
Centrally positioned, it was ideal for all the entertainment in the village square, and walks in every direction from the front door.
Would highly recommend this fabulous hotel and resort.

This was a great little hotel, and it certainly enhanced our stay. The hotel staff were
fantastic and certainly know the meaning of customer service. No task was too large for them, And were prompt on everything. The Hotel itself is situated right in the heart of the town, And you are within a few minutes walk in any direction to the local shops, cafes, bars etc, and therefore perfectly situated for all your needs.. The bar was very well stocked in a vast array of wines, spirits and beers. And is a very nice little bar. The only real downside for me personally was the fact that smoking is allowed in the bar area, However there is ample seating just outside in the lounge area, that caters for non smokers. This is an Austrian way of life in general and not specific to The Hotel Fischer.
I found the staff on reception very helpful on all occasions, and were very thorough and patient and helpful by assisting us on some train time tables and information.
All meals were full filling and very well cooked and presented. And it was lovely to be treated to some local Austrian cuisine,Waiting staff were always very polite and carried out their duties with a smile on their faces.
The room we were in,was extremely comfortable and spacious and we had a fantastic view of the hills and brewery. There are no drink making facilities in the rooms however, which again is fairly normal for Austrian way of life. All in all this is a great little hotel for all types or tourists and holiday makers, and very well situated if you fancy travelling further afield to the likes of Munich, Salzburg ,Innsbruck , Kitzbul and Zell am See to name a few. I for one would have no problem returning again in the future. Perhaps even next summer.

Room Tip: All rooms were pretty decent from what I saw. I found my room on the first floor just above the cour...
