Exactly what an Austrian mountain lunch should be.

Venue has lots of character, the atmosphere was very friendly and the food excellent with the portions (especially desert) generous. Wine was a little pricy but not out of line with other places locally.

Some might find it slightly cheesy with all the staff dressed in traditional Austrian attire but inside the place certainly carries it off and I for one enjoyed the awkwardness of the guy serving us pre-lunch drinks in the outside bar in his full lederhosen.

One other thing is during the time we were there - February half term - you certainly do need to book.

Not the cheapest place in St Anton, nor even the best service (although the waiters in their traditional dress and wooden bow ties are cute) but a fascinating, historic and fun place to go for lunch (top tip - book a table if you want a table outside in the sun on a good day).

The high points of this restaurant are the celebrity pictures on the wall (from every European royal family you can name ... and a few more) and the slide down to the toilet which brings out the inner child in everyone, It's worth having a poke round inside as well as the interior is fascinating and if the cellar door is open, taking a quick look at the wine - wow!

Food isn't particualy cheap but the portions (especially the ribs, where one portion could feed a family) are massive. I'd also recommend the splatzle and the meat and cheese platter if you're hungry! Service can be a bit erratic, and the last time we went one of our group got their order forgotten, so you need to be on the ball in terms of hailing your waiter if you want something, but the place gets so busy at lunchtime that it's not surprising that things slow down a bit.

Not a place for a quiet lunch, but unmissable if you're in the area! The blue run down to the restaurant is one of the easiest in the whole resort which makes the restuarant accessible to all (it's also easy to get to from the road for non-skiiers).

I always make a point of coming here when skiing in the St Anton area as the food is so good. But lunch today was completely spoilt by the absolutely terrible service. It was busy outside, but if the waitresses cannot cope, they shouldn't put so many tables out. I had to wait 20 minutes before anyone even acknowledged me (because I stood up and waved my arms). The table next to me waited an hour for their food and then it was the wrong dish. Everyone around me was complaining, and the ones who didn't call out simply didn't get served. If I hadn't wasted an hour's skiing time on such a beautiful sunny day it would have been amusing to see how out of control the whole situation was, but unfortunately it wasn't funny, just very annoying and dissapointing

A very special evening spoiled by terrible, slow service and then rushed seven course meal.
Wine and water poured to compensate for incompetent kitchen. No explanation from head waiter as to why it was nearly two hours before any food arrived. Rather arrogant attitude from staff when questioned.
The food then difficult to appreciate. We know the area well, have been coming for 11 years and that the Hospiz Alm prides itself on its five star reputation, but we would not dare recommend it nor probably visit again.
