This was our first time with Esprit Ski. We booked an apartment in the catered Chalet Markus on the recommendation of an Inghams Area Representative. The three bedroomed apartment 15 was an excellent choice for our family of four adults and a baby. Having the spacious open plan lounge/diner/kitchen was a real bonus after some of the pokey little rooms we've had in the past staying in ski hotels.
Everywhere was kept spotlessly clean by Dom, the chalet manager, and Gracie his assistant. As I have some food allergies I was rather apprehensive given the necessarily limited menus but Ian, the chef, was AMAZING. He took such care to check everything with me and it was all delicious. The hot breakfasts were the best we've had on this type of holiday. On six days there were several hot options of egg, bacon, sausage and beans as well as pancakes, eggs and porridge. There wasn't a huge continental selection but with different breads, meats, cheese, fruit, yoghurts and cereals no-one went hungry. Afternoon cake was provided daily along with high tea for the under 12s at 5.30 and dinner starting with canapés and drinks for the adults at 7.30 on 6 nights of the week. We had hoped there would be the option to purchase a packed lunch, maybe something for Esprit to consider?
The only problem was with the location of the chalet. The brochure states 5 minutes to the nearest lift. It look the adults in our party 10 minutes to walk down, slightly longer back as it was all uphill, quite steep at that. There was, however a free ski bus stop almost opposite the chalet and they reported there was always room on the bus. I think mini bus transport to ski school was provided by Esprit. It was certainly available for the nursery age children. The childcare staff were absolutely lovely and visited the chalet regularly. Our little one only used the nursery one day but had a great time there.
We booked the mountain meal through Anthony, the rep, on Ian's day off. Anthony booked a taxi for us to the location of the piste basher which took us up the mountain to the restaurant. We weren't told it was unsuitable for mobility impaired people and it was an extremely undignifying experience being manhandled on and off the piste basher. I also wouldn't advise this for little ones as there are no high chairs provided and you will share a table with other people you don't know. Luckily we had a table to ourselves and our 23 month old sat up to the table beautifully unlike the nearby 20 month old whose poor parents had a nightmare of an evening with a very distressed baby. This wasn't a cheap night out but with "all you can eat" and the experience of riding a piste basher it was unforgettable.
We had a really good holiday and would certainly return to Chalet Markus in a heartbeat. Thank you to all the wonderful staff who made our time there so special x
