Disclaimer: This is my first experience in Alps and I am biased comparing it to US skiing...

Pros. Views of alps are breathtaking and incomparable, Apres-ski is just a different definition compared to US (US would be non existent) but even compared to some other villages St Anton impresses with vibrant life ending late at night skiing down the hill with a flashlight, a lot of steep terrain with challenging trails right off the lift, big mountains!

Cons. Rather crowded with a lot of bottle necks, what you pay is what you get - US is more expensive but organization and safety suffers, lines on the lifts are UNREGULATED with skiers herding and pushing each other to get first, it also affects efficiency with many chairs going empty seated, much less markings of the trails, park is dangerous where even instructors ignoring teens cutting the line, avalanche is a big issue in St Anton where many ski with avalang-equipped backpacks and very often steep trails are closed, it is not really an interconnected mountain... due to bad weather lifts can be closed and St Cristoff is disconnected, Lech is not ski connected - you need to take a bus. So my overall feeling was a lot of great but in reality separate one to two lifts mountains, yet they are absolutely amazing. Powder ? US is of course much better ...

Good skiing and atmosphere. The only thing we did not like was that the slopes down are very narrow and crowded in high season. The after ski is superb.

St. Anton is convenient via train from Munich and has a lot of selection and diversity in its restaurants and shopping, but leaves something to be desired in terms of its architecture and appearance. Everything is pristine and well-kept to be sure, but compared to towns like Kitzbuhel, Austria for example with its colorful, painted rows of homes on well laid-out brick and cobblestone streets with its picturesque creek running through it and excellent night life, I'd say that St. Anton just doesn't shine as bright. I do feel that St. Anton is very cozy and the people are generally very friendly and the service is very good at hotels, restaurants, etc., however.

Had a great week from 23rd to 30th December staying with friends in Supertravel catered Chalet Taja.
Skiing was excellent, as was the snow, food, drink and company.
