“Great hotel, great location”
Reviewed January 17, 2012

This was the second time my husband and I stayed in the Jenewein for a New Year ski holiday and it was every bit as perfect as the first time round. It is no surprise that this hotel gets so many repeat visitors. Situated right at the bottom of the ski slope and with a chair and gondola round the corner, it is ski in ski out. Our room was spotless with plenty space for all our clothes and somewhere to hang up our ski jackets and the bathroom had been refurbished to a really high standard. We were staying half board and the food was always delicious with a good choice. Breakfast buffet had everything that hungry skiers need to set them up for the day. The bar and waiting staff are brilliant, attentive and knowledgeable, as were the reception staff. If I visit Obergurgl again (which I probably will at some point - skiing is excellent there) then I can't imagine staying anywhere better than the Jenewein.

We've literally just returned from another brilliant weeks skiing in obergurgl. We booked this hotel, firstly for its fantastic position, and secondly because the fairly new terrace bar looked really sociable and fun. Sadly we only ventured in there once. This could really be a great asset for the hotel because they've done everything right. The barmen are great, the seating and lighting makes it all extremely cosy, but it's full of smokers so it really wasn't for us, which was a great shame. The hotel is immaculate, friendly and the food is really good but its absolutely dead in the evenings, and the bar was virtually never used! Thank goodness for the Nederhutte which incidentally is smoke free!!! This was our 6th visit to Obergurgl and we will certainly be going back again, possibly in march, but not to this hotel I'm afraid. All the previous hotels we've tried there have all had a thriving bar, with a real buzz. Not this one!

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet but if you want to guarantee south facing you need to Upgrade to a junior suite...

Recently returned from our first trip to Obergurgl and Hotel Jenewein. The hotel was exceptional. Efficiently run, fabulous food (a superb menu), spacious bedrooms, and the best location in the village. The Umbrella bar attached to the hotel was run by Stephan and David who went out of the way to make our holiday special. You can sit and watch the return slope to the village from the bar, ski straight in! The staff in the hotel and restaurant were very friendly and helpful. Obergurgl is a quiet village with great apres ski and a few shops. If you want a party town, this is not it! Families will love it. If I have any negative it would be that the smoking rules in Austria still allow customers to smoke in the bar. As the bar in Jenewein was the most festive place to be and the children often came in with us there were times that the smoking was a little irritating. But overall we loved this town and hotel. A return trip is on the cards!

Room Tip: deluxe rooms look over the slopes.

I have visited Obergurgl four times now and this was the best of the hotels I have stayed in.
The service was excellent, the standard is high in Obergurgl but this was brilliant.
Simone on reception is superb. She has great Engligh and was almost acting as my PA at times solving problems well beyond the call of duty.
The single rooms (303-306) are spacious for singles.
The whole plae has a modern Austrian wooden feel to it.
The bar could be made more of but the food is copious and high quality.
Only thing I have against it is no pool but its location next to the main slope makes up for that.

We've just got back from a week at the Jenewein and really can't rate it highly enough. The service from the staff is exceptional, they really do go out of their way to help make the stay enjoyable and they clearly care about the hotel and the service that they provide to their guests. Branko the waiter is a one-off! The food was excellent, 5 courses per night with 3 choices per night of main course. The breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful and it was a bonus being able to make up our own packed lunch to keep us going when walking! The room was traditional Tyrolean in style and very spacious and comfy. I'm a bit obsessional about how clean and tidy places we stay are and so it was a real pleasure to see such a spotless and meticulously kept hotel. Obergurgl is a great base for walking, with the Jenewein a 30 second stagger from the cable car at the end of a long hike! However, just be aware if you're thinking of a trip here that it is a very sleepy and quiet resort in the summer with very little nightlife. This was great for us as we just wanted to get away from it all (and the hotel has a lovely bar and lounge area) but the resort may not suit everyone. I understand that it's livelier in winter for the ski season....
