“5 stars are not enough!!!”
Reviewed August 13, 2011

We've just got back from a week at the Jenewein and really can't rate it highly enough. The service from the staff is exceptional, they really do go out of their way to help make the stay enjoyable and they clearly care about the hotel and the service that they provide to their guests. Branko the waiter is a one-off! The food was excellent, 5 courses per night with 3 choices per night of main course. The breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful and it was a bonus being able to make up our own packed lunch to keep us going when walking! The room was traditional Tyrolean in style and very spacious and comfy. I'm a bit obsessional about how clean and tidy places we stay are and so it was a real pleasure to see such a spotless and meticulously kept hotel. Obergurgl is a great base for walking, with the Jenewein a 30 second stagger from the cable car at the end of a long hike! However, just be aware if you're thinking of a trip here that it is a very sleepy and quiet resort in the summer with very little nightlife. This was great for us as we just wanted to get away from it all (and the hotel has a lovely bar and lounge area) but the resort may not suit everyone. I understand that it's livelier in winter for the ski season....

We have just returned from 2 weeks at this wonderful family hotel! It is situated immediately next to the ski lift, ski school and slopes so ideal for ski in ski out and this was the main reason we chose it. However, we have found a little gem in the Austrian Alps! Where do I begin? The service was second to none with the most wonderfully attentive waiters, the food was superb (too scared to get on to the scales now), the rooms warm and comfortable and every single member of staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and part of the family. Obergurgl is a lovely little village with a wonderful ski school and slopes for beginners upwards and I would highly recommend both the resort and the hotel to anyone wanting a friendly, family ski holiday.

Great location. Walk directly from front door or to the lift. Good mix of medium to difficult walks in Obergurgl. Weather very mixed in August at this altitude. Hotel brekfast good and make up your own paked lunch for the day. Evening meal has a limited choice but more than adequate for most people. Little or no night life in Obergurgl this time of the year. Many couples in hotel back for the 5-7 time. While great for us with no children, would be a poor choice for vistors with children.

We have just returned from a week at the Jenewein and it was just what we needed. The location is perfect for walking and enjoying the scenery. The staff really make this hotel-they are friendly and only too happy to help. The service at meal times was also fantastic. We used the hotel spa everyday. The only confusion we had was whether it was a naked spa or not. Either is fine but the hotel guide says naked and some guests wore swimsuits. It made us,being naked, feel a little uncomfortable. The resort was tranquil and there was no traffic, noise or mobiles. Can also recommend the Wiesenthal Hotel for a meal. Good service and price.

Just back from a weeks skiing, came last year but stayed in the eidellwiess next door. The jenewein is alot smaller and more personable , we loved it, the staff were fantastic, Thomas was a gem in the restaurant and branco a great character. We had a lovley lunch at the pizza restaurant opposite the hotel so much so we went back at the end of the week do the best calzone ever!! Resort generally a bit dearer than others but with no queues worth it.
