OK. This hotel is fairly cheap so I expected it to be basic, and basic can be fine if it's done right. However, the Sportiv is poor in most aspects.

If I discount the facilities that are shared with the physically linked Crystal hotel (boot room, spa, main bar area) which are all excellent, then there is little to recommend the Sportiv itself.

Firstly the food is very poor. Other reviewers have described the limited choices in detail so I'll skip that. Suffice it to say that unless you see food purely as fuel do not stay here.

The room we had was very bad as well. The curtains did not fit the windows; the poles / hooks were broken in places; it was impossible to stand up straight in the shower, regardless of your height; the wardrobe had a broken shelf; basically everything was shoddy. The landing areas smelt as well. There were never any staff around in the day, but those that served at breakfast and dinner were nice and doing well under the circumstances.

The location is OK, but not as good as that of some hotels. The Festkogelbahn is right next door but that won't suit absolute beginners as it takes you high up the mountain, and even the ski-in off the short drag lift requires a little competence. Also the rooms are hot which meant we had to sleep with the windows open and the snow groomers working on the red run up from the hotel made it hard to get to sleep as early as I would have liked.

In summary I would avoid this hotel unless its relatively low cost is essential to you.

We enjoyed a good family holiday in Obergurgl at the beginning of March, however, the food at this hotel was very poor. We had had a holiday in St Christophe a month earlier where the hotel food was very good so we were constantly comparing. We will NOT be returning to this hotel. A plus point Alessio did a great job of managing the restaurant with depleted staff!

Room Tip: 4th floor rooms are great

Good location, friendly staff, slightly old fashioned hotel.
The food particularly the evening meals are very disappointing. To start there is a very average soup that is always vegetarian as no choice is offered. There is a help yourself salad bar which consisted of 6 basic salads - always a bowl of tomato, a bowl of lettuce one of sweet corn and cucumber plus 2 random others that included cold sprouts in a dressing and broccoli with orange etc. - never anything of quality. There was 2 choices for the main course - always a vegetarian choice which was of a very poor quality and either a meat or a fish choice. Three nights out of seven one had to have fish or vegetarian - one night cat fish, 2 nights river perch. I might be old fashioned but I think one should have a meat choice every night! To add insult to injury the main courses were rather small. For afters there was a very small desert - not too bad but no choice.

We paid a let to be at this hotel. I was told by the Crystal rep that you needed to go to a four star hotel to get decent food. There are some in Obergurgl that are little more money - I think that money would have been well spent.

Great location next to the gondola with a ski store in the hotel. You benefit from the use of the Crystal Hotel facilities which are very good. Food could be improved and salad bar disappointing. Good base for a skiing holiday in a 1900 metre high resort.

We stayed at the Sportiv for a week in February as part of a Crystal Ski vacation package. The location is terrific - adjacent to the Fetzkoglbahn gondola; directly above Scheiber Sports rentals and ski depot; and attached to the larger Hotel Crystal with its excellent spa facilities and après-ski buffet, which we had full access to. We had two rooms - one for the parents and one for our two teens. The hotel was clean and quiet, the rooms were large, and the housekeeping was flawless. The beds were very comfortable, as long as you don't mind Austrian twins (side by side) with individual duvets. The food was frankly not good - average at best - but we had read the reviews and been forewarned. There's a very good mini-market adjacent to the Crystal, and a refrigerator in each room. There's a bus stop right outside the door with a free ski bus across Obergurgl, Hochgurgl, and Solden, and it's great. The cleanliness and value of the Sportiv and its convenience to the slopes made it a great choice - if you want a more "posh" experience or gourmet food, you will want to pay more and look for other options. We just wanted to have a good family ski holiday at a reasonable price, so it was great.

Room Tip: We were on second floor - quiet and convenient.

Staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Food very good although choice of dinner menu a little restricted. However free apres ski food supplied in sister hotel Crystal excellent. With free use of Crystal's spa and pools ( bathrobes , towels and slippers provided) it makes the Sportiv excellent value( linked by underground and over ground passages). Its situation right by the gondola and free ski bus stop make access to and from the pistes fantastic.
You have to contact the reception at The Crystal as reception isn't manned except for arrivals and check out. i would certainly return .

Me and my nephews stayed here in January. The rooms were clean and close together. As everyone else has mentioned - the rooms are very warm. I had a corner room with 3 radiators to shut down each night! The Croatian serving the bar was great with the boys (aged 10 and 13), and they really liked his paper planes and card tricks. Tea over at the Crystal as well as the pool and spa were fabulous. A nice touch to have dressing gown and regulation large slippers for each guest. The boot room was excellent and a great facility when getting ready to go to or back from the slopes. I'd def go back. Hotel right next door to a ski lift which was wonderful! Food ok - plenty of it. Breakfast better than dinner!

Room Tip: Rooms 20 and 22 face the road which can be quite noisy. But they are close to everything. Room 20 ha...
