The hotel had come recommended to us by colleagues, but one still isn't really sure until you actually get to the location and experience the hotel and the resort overall. I can truly say that Edelweiss & Gurgl, and indeed, the entire resort, exceeded expectations. The food was incredibly delicious (yes, all 5 courses, every night). I can't imagine how they packed in so much taste, flavor and presentation night after night. This was completely unexpected. Even the breakfast choices presented us with a wide variety of foods to choose from. As for the rooms: The bathrooms are big and spacious, leaving plenty of room for unpacking cosmetics, shaving gear, etc. The beds were incredibly comfortable and warm. We have returned home and my wife is already complaining that our bed is nowhere near as comfortable as the beds at E&G. And last but not least, the location is simply second to none. The time to walk out of the room, walk down to the ski storage room, put on boots and skis and get to the lifts is all of 10 minutes and about 20 steps. The skiing itself is fantastic, and I can highly recommend the ski school and its very patient instructors.

I have never stayed anywhere for a winter holiday with more convenient access to everything that I needed. All in all, this was a holiday in a hotel and a location that I want to repeat.

Warm and welcoming staff, good food including a veggie option every night, a good spa area and right next to the main gondola and a 4man chairlift to take you to two of the main pistes in Obergurgl.

We have just come back from a week staying at The Edelweiss, after skiing for thirty years it really was perfect in every way. The hotel boasts the most amazing spa and is spacious so you can simply chill out after a day on the slopes. The hotel is at the foot of the mountain and having gone down a flight of stairs from reception to get your skis and boots, up another small flight of stairs, the ski lift is less that twenty paces away. The food is superb and the hotel must have an excellent chef to be so consistent. There is so much on offer at breakfast, it really would keep you going until supper. Can't wait to go again.

This was our first trip to Obergurgl and we booked the hotel direct as we drove from Belgium. All our communications with the hotel by E Mail were promptly and courteously answered, even down to what sort of weather conditions to expect, and whether we needed snow chains. Our first impressions were good as we were directed into a parking space by a nice attendant, and the reception desk staff were very attentive. We arrived at 13.30pm, but were told that the room would not be available until exactly 14.00, so we gratefully sank into a soft sofa and had a drink until this time. We were rewarded with an upgrade to an Edelweiss junior suite!
The suite ( 332 ) was very nice, with a separate bathroom and toilet - lovely big bath! - lounge area with TV and sofa, and bedroom with another TV. Tons of wardrobe space too. There was a small balcony off the bedroom which looked down onto the church and the front of the hotel. The bed was the usual Austrian twin with one bed, but two matresses and two single duvets. The pillows were the softest I have ever slept on, and the whole suite was wonderfully warm - needed as the outside temperature was never more than about -7!
The dining room is at the back of the hotel and faces the slopes, and we had a table close to the window so we could watch all the comings and goings - and all the antics at the Gluwein Bar - but more of that later! The dining room is very formal and people got quite dressed up for dinner, and the menus were 6 courses every night, with a starter, choice of soup, salad buffet, choice of main course, dessert and cheese. There is a choice of wine recommended with each main course. This was our only issue with the hotel; we found the menu and atmosphere very stilted and not really what we wanted after a day on the slopes. The staff were friendly but seemed puzzled that we didn't want all the courses every night, I felt like I was having to dine at Claridges for a whole week, when what I really would have liked was a pizza, or a raclette or even a fondue! Also we found the wine extremely expensive - most bottles nothing special and between 35 and 40 euros. This I suppose, is a personal opinion as our neighbours in the dining room had every course every night with wine and thought it was wonderful. There is very little atmosphere in the bar after dinner, and while we were there there was a terrible Italian man ( a guest ) who thought he could sing opera - it cleared the bar in seconds!
Breakfast was a buffet with everything you could wish for, however..... our friends who stayed in the Madeleine had Prosecco every morning which we didn't :((
The wellness centre was lovely, just what you need after a hard day on skis, but be warned - the saunas, steam rooms etc are all naked ones, but the pool and jacuzzi allow cossies. Didn't try the treatments but they all sounded good!
There is a ski and boot room under the hotel and direct access to the gondola and the chair, and the ski hire shop is under the hotel too - they are very helpful and have a place to store your skis and boots if you are not staying in the Edelweiss. Try www.snowbrainer.com for good prices on ski and boot hire.
Now for the fun bits - the Gluwein bar outside the Edelweiss under the umbrella is wonderfully situated for a warming drink and for meeting friends - be sure to try the jaegertee - yummy!
The Nederhutte at the middle gondola station has great apres ski evenings with incredible live music and dancing on the tables ( yes, its encouraged! ) from about 4pm until you start to think its time to ski down - but there is a free skidoo if that thought escapes you. My legs ached more after the Nederhutte than the reds!
The Hohe Mut at the top gondola station is great for views and food and does a mean raclette - its at the top of a red, but you can take the gondola down again.
The Pic Nic is across from the Edelweiss and is a small, welcoming resaurant for lunch or dinner and does a great fondue and wonderful gorgonzola pasta.
The pizza at Romantica is scumptious, but huge - maybe to share??
So, would we go back - well, we got back this afternoon and have E Mailed for a price for next year - but for bed and breakfast only, as the food just wasn't to our taste for a skiing holiday.. We've also E Mailed the Madeleine for obvious reasons :))

We stayed here for a week from boxing day 2010. From arrival we found the hotel staff to be friendly and the service was excellent. Bar staff, waiting staff, recpetion staff and spa staff were all great.

Our room was a superior and it wasn't huge but we had enough room and everything we needed.

The ski in ski out facility really is the best you can get.

The spa was amazing and the view of th slopes from the poolside is lovely.

The decor is old fashioned but it's not tatty or old and is really inkeeping with the Austrian feel.

The food was fabulous - i usually hate all incluisve deals because you never seem to get much choice but this was different the food really was top notch.

Great hotel.
