Booked fairly late but very happy with the hotel. Being half term week there were a lot of families with kids from 5-10 years old that made the dining room very loud for the evening meal. Our table, for 2, was in the middle of the dining area which was generally used like a corridor for serving which was not a problem. A big problem was kids running up and down either side of our table all through our dinner !! We asked for a different table but didn't get one - I think their hands were tied as it was so busy being half term.
The staff were excellent - special mentions for Jozeph and Beata in the dining room. Tino at reception was very efficient and very helpful. Breakfast excellent. Evening meals pretty good. Wine selection worrying at first but didn't realise that Austrian wine was so good - especially the "Small Hill Red" !! Bar prices very reasonable and the barman was very friendly and helpful - one down side was the fact that smoking is allowed in the bar area - stop this and we would have no complaints.
Position for the lifts was good - a 250m walk across the road to a small drag lift in the morning and a short ski down to the Festkoglbahn gondola with excellent uplift on to the mountain. Also we skied one day at Solden and caught the bus directly outside the hotel.
Good ski and boot room storage with easy access outside - no stairs !!
One small gripe - from my wife - there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
All in all we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would not hesitate to recommend the Alpenaussicht

Room Tip: No advice re rooms except we were on the 3rd floor and had a good view of the mountains from our win...

We stayed at Hotel Alpenaussicht in January 2014, our first time in Obergurgl. The hotel was lovely, and the first hotel we have stayed where the management photos on Trip Advisor actually represent the hotel! We booked one of the smaller rooms, 408 which was on the corner and had 2 windows on either corner so lovely views. The room was spotless, the bathroom had under floor heating, very nice. I found that the Austria style twin beds a little hard, but maybe that's my personal view.

The food was delicious and plentiful, the Austrian wine was very good, no complaints. Always 3 choices for the main course and should there not be anything to your liking then they will offer you an alternative. We never came away disappointed or indeed hungry.

We drank in the bar and initially I was concerned about the smoking having read other reviews, whilst we were there, although there were smokers in the bar it wasn't as much of a problem as I feared, in fact other bars in the town were worse. The bar is small but it was never really that busy to spoil a late evening drink.

All the staff we encountered were extremely pleasant, friendly and doing their utmost to ensure our stay was extra special, nothing was too much trouble.

I notice in a previous review that it is mentioned that the bathrobes were now free from reception, however we were charged 10 euros each, which was advertised on the leaflets we were given. Not a problem for us but a bit of a conflict it would seem depending when you stayed.

The hotel is a good location for the nursery slopes, a bus stop right outside, which takes you into the centre of the village, although it really is only a few minutes walk, or to the Hochgurgl bahn in the other direction, which isn't a walkable distance.

An excellent hotel which we found no complaints about.

Room Tip: All the rooms have lovely views, don't be afraid to book a smaller room if budget is smaller, t...

The positives to this hotel are many. A great location for skiing, with a main gondola only a short walk away, and ski bus stops directly outside. The hotel is well laid out and has modern decor and plenty of room in reception, bar and dining rooms. It is generally very efficiently run, with friendly and attentive staff. Cleaning standards are very high and cleaning staff are in evidence throughout the day, for example regularly mopping the floors in reception or on the stairs. Food is plentiful, varied and tasty. Our room was very spacious, clean and well maintained, with a really nice bathroom. The downsides I am mentioning only because it would not have taken much more to make me give a 5 star review, and I hope the family that own and run the Alpenaussicht are genuinely interested in customer feedback. Firstly as mentioned by previous reviewers, the bar still allows smoking. The smoke often came through to the dining room and this is a major no no for me. The adjoining room ( winter garden) is marked as non smoking and is comfortable but again the smoke penetrates through so we only used this once or twice. The second gripe was with our welcome on arrival on the Saturday. We arrived in the early afternoon with around 15 or so other Crystal guests, who were all given key cards and promptly disappeared off to their rooms. We however were told we had to wait 'a moment' as our room was not ready. We waited maybe 15 minutes, standing in reception whilst the receptionist generally got on with various admin duties and did not speak to us. She did not offer an update or apology so we politely asked if the wait would be much longer and if so could we obtain a coffee somewhere. We were told the bar was open and she would come and let us know when the room was ready. So we purchased two coffees and waited. Some 45 minutes after arrival we still had no update so (not helped by the 4am start that day) my husband was getting rather ratty and enquired again at reception regarding the room, and could we perhaps lock our cases somewhere to allow us to go out for a walk. At this stage we were issued a key card and I do think the room had been ready for a while but the receptionist had forgotten us. I do appreciate maybe we had arrived earlier than normal check in time but a polite apology, rough idea of wait time and maybe offer of a complimentary drink would have made us feel far more valued and welcome. This was however the only bad service we had the whole week so I would still overall thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel with friendly service. Bus stops right outside hotel and can even get to the gondola by taking a button lift and skiing to the gondola also right opposite behind the Hochfirst hotel. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the food is fantastic. Would recommend a 10 euro upgrade ski pass which include a day skiing in Solden which is only 15 mins away on the ski bus. Lovely resort all in all but prefer the skiing in Hochgurgl which is also included in the area lift pass.

Stayed for Christmas with a family of 7, Mum, Dad, Children 11, 17 & 19 and Grandma and Grandad. Rooms were a good size and spotlessly clean. All the staff were very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. The food was excellent and plentiful.
The Hotel is in a great central location with easy access to the slopes.
We were bit concerned when booking this hotel due to comments about the bar being smoky. Whilst there were times that a couple of people were smoking, it was never a problem.
We would not hesitate to return to this hotel.

We have just returned from a week's stay at the Alpenaussicht and had a thoroughly enjoyable week. The hotel was very good value for money and had friendly and helpful staff. It has an excellent heated boot room and is well situated for access to the ski slopes. It was possible to ski back to within 50 meters of the hotel which was great. Food was plentiful at breakfast and dinner and there was always something amongst the choices that we liked. In the event of that not being the case the hotel offered to cook an alternative which was nice. Our only criticism would be that the food was heavily salted but this seems to be the norm in Austria. Wine was by many European standards well priced and we enjoyed some of the Austrian wines that were available.

It is such a shame that the hotel allow smoking in the bar and as a result we didn't use this facility. It was usually only one or two people who were smoking but we could smell it even in the restaurant. Because of this, most people went elsewhere after their meal. I am sure that if they made it non-smoking it would have a positive effect on their bar takings! Another minor gripe were the Austrian pillows which were very strange and uncomfortable, indeed if we stayed again we would take our own.

We really enjoyed the skiing, particularly so in Hochgurgl and although the area is not huge we found plenty to keep us occupied for a week. The lift system is excellent and very fast with a vast uphill capacity, which meant there were no queues at all during our stay. The ski show at the top of the Festkoglbahn lift on Tuesday evening was good entertainment and could be combined with floodlit skiing if you didn't get enough skiing during the day! The toboggan run in Hochgurgl was also great fun and reasonably priced.

All in all we would certainly return to Obergurgl, and to this hotel if they change their smoking policy.

This was our third stay at the Alpenaussicht! It is a lovely hotel in a great position only a 5 minute walk in either direction from the main lifts. It's also excellent value for money! We were there for New Year this time & the staff put on a fantastic evening with wonderful food - if a little too much, great band & fireworks at midnight! Last year I mentioned that the cost for the dressing gowns to wear to the sauna was a bit much & now they are free from reception which is great! The only complaint I have is that smoking is still allowed in the bar! Some other hotels have banned it or have a smoking room! Maybe this is something that they will consider in the future?! Unfortunately it means we go out to a bar that is non-smoking rather than staying in the hotel bar! Anyway nearly a perfect stay & we will definitely be back next year! Thank you Family Ribis
