We had 7 days in the Staffler. We were met by the host, Yana who could not have been any more helpful. The hotel is a lovely family friendly hotel with owners who are very hands on. The hotel offers excellent home cooked food which is what is needed after a days skiing. The lifts are about 150m away so nice an easy. The hotel is not full of mod cons, but it has everything you need for a family stay: bar, pool table, sky tv, fab food, games for the kids, wi-fi, fab views. We would certainly recommend it.

Thanks! Always grateful for guest comments. Free internet in the bar, lounge and reception - with a code available to all hotel guests and those from the resort who use the bar!

we have just returned with a group of 15 Friends from 4 nights at the Staffler Hotel in Niederau - I really was not sure what to expect as we had only ever stayed around zell am zee area before.
The Staffler is in the most perfect location - a very short stroll to the Bus Stop which takes you to Auffach etc and is also next to the Hotel Austria - where we hired our ski equipment from.
The Gondola of Niedarau is a little further up the hill ( about 4 min walk) There are some bars all within close proximity - I am unable to comment on any restaurants as we had Breakfast and Evening meal at the Staffler .... there is a Spar and a cash machine all within walking distance.

The food both breakfast and Evening meal was excellent - you choose your evening meal at breakfast in the mornings and the evening meal consists of a homemade tasty soup - main course such as Lasagne, Stir Fry, Sunday Roast, Pasta Bake, Cottage Pie and then a dessert - good Homemade Food which is definately what you need after a day of skiing!!!

Lovely bar area which has a pool table and Sky TV and great Cosy Beds and duvets

Yana and Nick are perfect hosts and their staff all work really hard to make your stay very enjoyable ..... We will be back without a doubt .... many thanks for all your hard work

Glad you enjoyed your stay - we look after lots and lots of groups, large and small. Sunday roast is enjoyed by all - turkey replaces chicken this winter with red cabbage, roast spuds and veg - more like an Xmas dinner! Starter always veg soup and a great mixed berry crumble and custard for desert!

Just back after a weeks stay at the Staffler, where we had, quite simply, a fantastic time.
OK, the hotel is not the newest and shiniest you will ever stay at, but, in my experience, new shiny hotels don't come with friendly staff and a 'can do' attitude.
Yana and Nick make you feel very welcome and the rooms are clean (plus well serviced in the week). Lashings of hot water for the shower/bath is always high on my list and the Staffler didn't disappoint.
The staff seem to be a mixture of family and friends (or maybe they've just become friends over the years) but the main thing is they are a fantastic team who could put plenty of hotels to shame.
Nick and Yana are both well into their skiing and can therfore offer good advice for a novice (me) or more experienced traveller. Guided routes are also available but be warned, Nick takes no prisoners and if you decide to have an extra 5 mins in bed you WILL miss the bus!
If you want to sort your own skiing out then a 20min bus ride, either way in the valley, takes you to some really great runs from blue to black. You will be out all day if you want.
Suggestion, get the full Juwel ski pass. Don't mess about.
Evening meals are great and just what you need at the end of the day.
Breakfast is typical buffet continental but plenty available.
They have the 'Cave Bar' under the hotel where you can enjoy a drink and a dance until late/early, if you don't want to be up for skiing that is. From our room there was a (very) feint suggestion of the music playing but to be honest, I've heard louder dogs barking!
All in all, very happy indeed, will absolutely go back.

Room Tip: Possibly look at the balcony rooms on floor 2?

Best aspectof the Staffler is the ski guiding. You have to be up and out at the designated time (8 am) or they will go without you!. But its well worth the effort as you will make the first lifts and then spend the next few hours being guided round the best slopes and the best conditions without pause to look at the piste map. Great fun and an excellent way to appreciate the skiing available.

Hotel is clean and comfortable with plenty to eat at mealtimes.

We booked Hotel Staffler via booking.com as it was the best price for this area and we stayed for 4 nights. It was really good value for the price we paid. Rooms are older but clean and cosy however we were really cold first two nights as the heating did not seem to be on. We asked the staff for help and other two nights it was fine. The staff was really friendly and helpful all the time and the food they prepared for us was delicious. I would reccomend this hotel to young people who would like to have some fun since there is a Cave bar club in the basement. We asked for a quiet room for this reason and did not hear a thing from the bar, only our neighbors time to time which was bearable. It was a great holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the top floor as there you will not hear the music from the Cave bar.

We picked up the Hotel Staffler by chance on a last minute break so we didn't know how lucky we were. OK so the hotel itself has seen better days but there isn't actually anything wrong with it. The food isn't exotic but what they do they do well. Nick and Yana make it special as they really go out of their way to make sure you get the best out of the holiday and the free ski guiding is a real bonus. So assuming you know that this is a 3 star hotel then it is a 5 star experience!

Room Tip: Rooms high up are quieter

Highly recommend the Staffler, which is run by Nick and Yana who understand exactly what their guests want in a short (or long) skiing break. It made a nice change to stay in a hotel run by people who understand what hoteliers should provide - many other similar hotels could benefit from watching them and their staff at work.

They rescued our messed up booking (not their fault!) and found accommodation in another Niederau hotel down the road for our last night. We still found ourselves coming back to the Staffler for the bar, staff and all round welcoming ambiance.

On our last day we were guided by Ian around one of the mountains nearby - well worth it!

Many thanks!

the Simpson party - Neil, Graham, Jon and Mike

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Staffler sits in the centre of Niederau, in the heart of the Kitzbuhler Alps, close to ski schools, hire shops, the main lifts and nursery slopes. The hotel is the resorts oldest, most well known and offers guests a relaxed and informal atmosphere. En suite bedrooms are simply furnished. A number can accommodate additional beds, some have balconies and all have mountain views. There are also a limited number of interconnecting family rooms.  On the ground floor is a comfortable reception area, O'Malley's bar - always popular and busy, a fantastic sunny terrace and a bright and airy dining room. Streamed sport is available in O'Malley's and complimentary high speed wifi is also available throughout the hotel.  A complimentary buffet breakfast and three course dinner are served each day.  The Staffler is uniquely not Saturday to Saturday specific - guests can arrive and depart at anytime. The hotel is multi-award winning including it's ranking on TripAdvisor, the recipient of their 'Certificate of Excellence' for the past eight years, the only hotel in the Wildschonau to have their coveted 'Hall of Fame' award and a unique recipient of their silver 'Green Leaders' ECO award.  Last season the Staffler received their 'Travellers Choice' award - voted by TripAdvisor reviewers, rating the hotel one of the top 25 hotels in the whole of Austria for families and service (number 14 in fact).   The hotel is pet friendly - dogs especially. Late flights on the last day of many a personal holiday have always frustrated so we will always endeavour to make at least one room available for showers and changing for guests on afternoon or evening departures from the hotel - and at no additional cost. All guest bookings are made directly with ourselves or with a small number of Online Travel Agents. We do not look after any specific Tour Operator clients.   If you are looking for a luxury hotel with lots of amenities then the Staffler is probably not for you but if your accommodation choice is about outstanding service, complimentary Ski Guiding subject to conditions and lots more besides then the Staffler will satisfy - and how!   ... more   less
