We booked this hotel as a late availability with Crystal. As such we had our reservations. At the price we paid we weren't expecting it to be anything special and we were concerned at some of the reviews we had seen. We were more than pleasantly surprised. As other reviewers have commented, despite our late arrival we were told to make ourselves comfortable and come down for dinner.
The rooms were spacious and clean. This was not the Ritz but we had no complaints. The view of the mountains from our balcony was superb. The bedding clean and comfortable. A small bathroom with a powerful shower completed our accomodation. If we were going to be picky, on a couple of occassions the hot water took quite a while to come through but did do eventually. Our children were accomodated in a room across the corridor which was equally nice. As we were placed on the top floor at the end of a corridor we felt secure enough to allow the children to stay on their own with both rooms left unlocked overnight. The hotel and indeed the whole resort struck us as very safe.
Having settled in we went down to dinner. This was delicious and a sign of things to come. Each day we enjoyed the delights of the Schneeberger kitchen for both breakfast and dinner. We had gone with the intention of perhaps eating out for dinner but it just never happened. Every morning we were given a menu outlining the evenings offerings. This consisted of a salad bar with a variety of dishes, soup, a starter course and a choice of 3 main meals, and finally a dessert. The little people were also given a childrens meal option but were free to choose from the adult menu should they wish. I can honestly say that each and every meal we ate was lovely and just what was needed after a busy day on the slopes.
As for the location of the hotel, it was great. Just up the driveway across the "main" road and in no time at all your at the nursery slopes. Very handy indeed with two little children. Conditions when we were there meant that it was possible to ski back to the hotel (save for the road). And of course once there it was just a few short steps to the ski room, with its heated boot warmers. Just fantastic!
As for Niederau what can I say. This is prodominently a family resort and those little people are very well catered for. Having been to a number of resorts we have definitley found the one for us and will no doubt return for many years to come. We found it to be great value for money and particularly enjoyed our lunches and apres ski in Bobo's and The Alpenland Bar. The skiing was most enjoyable and whilst this certainly isn't the largest ski area there was plenty to keep us busy for the week. The children went to ski school at 1st skischule Wildshonau ie the Reds, which was truly fantastic. We cannot speak highly enough of the skill and care shown to them during the course of the week. We are now the proud parents of a 4 and 5 year old who after a week are more than capable of tackling the most difficult of terrains. But it was more than just that, it was how much fun they had in ski school, how they were taken to the toilet (pretty important and if past experience is anything to go by something often forgotten by other outfits) , how they were given encouragement and of course the never ending supply of haribo their tutors seemed to have upon them. And all that for an exceptionally good price.
All in all we would highly recommend both this hotel and this wonderful resort. Just dont tell everyone as we are trying to keep it a secret.
