“Marvellous time had by all !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2010

We booked this hotel as a late availability with Crystal. As such we had our reservations. At the price we paid we weren't expecting it to be anything special and we were concerned at some of the reviews we had seen. We were more than pleasantly surprised. As other reviewers have commented, despite our late arrival we were told to make ourselves comfortable and come down for dinner.
The rooms were spacious and clean. This was not the Ritz but we had no complaints. The view of the mountains from our balcony was superb. The bedding clean and comfortable. A small bathroom with a powerful shower completed our accomodation. If we were going to be picky, on a couple of occassions the hot water took quite a while to come through but did do eventually. Our children were accomodated in a room across the corridor which was equally nice. As we were placed on the top floor at the end of a corridor we felt secure enough to allow the children to stay on their own with both rooms left unlocked overnight. The hotel and indeed the whole resort struck us as very safe.
Having settled in we went down to dinner. This was delicious and a sign of things to come. Each day we enjoyed the delights of the Schneeberger kitchen for both breakfast and dinner. We had gone with the intention of perhaps eating out for dinner but it just never happened. Every morning we were given a menu outlining the evenings offerings. This consisted of a salad bar with a variety of dishes, soup, a starter course and a choice of 3 main meals, and finally a dessert. The little people were also given a childrens meal option but were free to choose from the adult menu should they wish. I can honestly say that each and every meal we ate was lovely and just what was needed after a busy day on the slopes.
As for the location of the hotel, it was great. Just up the driveway across the "main" road and in no time at all your at the nursery slopes. Very handy indeed with two little children. Conditions when we were there meant that it was possible to ski back to the hotel (save for the road). And of course once there it was just a few short steps to the ski room, with its heated boot warmers. Just fantastic!
As for Niederau what can I say. This is prodominently a family resort and those little people are very well catered for. Having been to a number of resorts we have definitley found the one for us and will no doubt return for many years to come. We found it to be great value for money and particularly enjoyed our lunches and apres ski in Bobo's and The Alpenland Bar. The skiing was most enjoyable and whilst this certainly isn't the largest ski area there was plenty to keep us busy for the week. The children went to ski school at 1st skischule Wildshonau ie the Reds, which was truly fantastic. We cannot speak highly enough of the skill and care shown to them during the course of the week. We are now the proud parents of a 4 and 5 year old who after a week are more than capable of tackling the most difficult of terrains. But it was more than just that, it was how much fun they had in ski school, how they were taken to the toilet (pretty important and if past experience is anything to go by something often forgotten by other outfits) , how they were given encouragement and of course the never ending supply of haribo their tutors seemed to have upon them. And all that for an exceptionally good price.
All in all we would highly recommend both this hotel and this wonderful resort. Just dont tell everyone as we are trying to keep it a secret.

We were a little dubious as to how the hotel was going to be as it was such a bargain! We arrived quite late - after dinner service but were told to settle in to our room and come down for supper which was a great welcome! Our room had a balcony with fantastic views of the slopes and we were a stones throw from everything that we needed - ski hire shop, gondala, the bars! The bed was seriously comfy and cosy and the only negative comment was that the telly was advertised as cable but had no English channels. The showers were boiling hot and powerful and the rooms were serviced and fresh towels bought every day if required.
We stayed half board which was fine. Breakfast was meat, cheese, cereal, yoghurt buffet and boiled eggs. Dinner was 5 courses and a selection of different options. I wouldnt say it was amazing but it was warming and filled a hole - meat kebabs, casserole etc. I am a coeliac and cant eat wheat or gluten and every waiter knew what contained it and what alternative they would provide and checked I would like it. The wine was nice and there was quite a selection. The other guests were a selection of Austrian, German and English and were all really friendly. It is very family friendly however, we are a couple aged 25 and it was fine! Overall, I would say - if you are looking for an affordable, friendly, cosy, well positioned, easily accesible hotel, I would definitely suggest Schneeberger

Having read some negative reviews about this hotel we were a little anxious prior to arriving. Our flight had been delayed and we arrived well after evening service yet a meal was provided for us at the hotel, which was much appreciated and lovely. The room was clean and spacious and was serviced daily (unless you requested otherwise) we had a balcony with a beautiful view. The meals were all good, breakfast was self service with plenty of choice even for a hardened fussy eater, evening meals came with 3 set starters, then a choice of main course and a dessert. I don't understand peoples whinges about the quality of the food, it was excellent and my teenage son managed to eat everyday without complaint. The staff do smoke behind and around the bar, but that is the only place they smoke and they dont smoke whilst serving you. The staff were polite and helpful especially Dirk so thanks Dirk. This hotel is ideal for families with either young children teenagers, we were not disturbed at all by the late night bar at the side of the hotel. We didn't take advantage of the Sauna etc but did have a look around and wish we had used them, its all about timing and we were having too much fun out on the slopes and drinking mulled wine to get back in time to use them. This was my first visit to Austria, and I would most definately return not just to Niederau but to the Hotel Schneeberger.

I cannot disagree strongly enough with the negative comments on this site, i found the hotel to be excellent value and the service very friendly. this was my first time in niederau and the resort itself is perfect for families and begginners alike but remember ski school is a must, you wouldnt expect someone to be able to do your job without training would you? I will be back in 2 weeks and in the same hotel. thank you Schneeberger!!!

the hotel is a lovely cosey modern and friendly family run hotel. it is in the center of Niderau and is only 100 odd meters from the slopes, 10 meters of which you have to walk, because of a road. the beds in the room are extremely comfortable and the room is large, spacious and clean. the dinners are traditional, large and are very tasty with local favorites eg. goulash, apple strudel but the dishes are never repeated and there is all ways a choice of three main cources to choose from at breakfast including a vegi option. the rooms are very quiet at night and the staff are friendly and welcoming. definatly coming back next year.

  • Liked — clean comfortable quiet rooms and 4 cource dinner
  • Disliked — n/a

We have been to this hotel during the past 18 years and it gets better and better. The food is wonderful and the rooms are extremely clean and modern. The Shneeberger family are all very warm and friendly and go out of their way to make you feel very welcome. The service is excellent and there is an extensive buffet breakfast. The evening meal is 5 course with a really good salad bar. We really like this hotel and the Schneeberger family and we can only praise everything about the hotel. Please go to this hotel you will not be sorry. The owner of the hotel Frau Shneeberger will only be too happy to help you if you have any problems. This is the best hotel in Niederau and deserves a 4/5 star rating.
